I hope they add back some flavour to Civilization 7. Like you said, there are a lot more unit promotions, and they're more tailored to specific unit types than the rubber-stamp ones in Civ 6. And especially leaders; if you've ever looked at the wiki the leaders have a huge list of traits, and they can be +/-2 in each category. You'll generally know what will happen when you run into another civ, but they don't behave exactly the same way every game. You could end up with a Shaka who hates warmongers almost as much as Gandhi does.
They added a lot of great stuff in Civ 6, but sometimes I wonder why they made things objectively worse. The leaders thing is what bothers me the most, and while I don't take much issue with the super-powered barbarians, they do spawn way too much. Especially for a game that leans heavily to playing wide, if I go to an unsettled continent, I shouldn't see a barbarian unit on half the bloody tiles.
...I'm getting the feeling that these first few videos are going to send me on rants from looking back on Civ 5 with rose-coloured glasses.
I wonder what they're going to do with Civ 7, I'm not very optimistic to be honest...
