@scottykilmer - I always watch all your videos, but don't recall you ever talking highly about the Toyota Camry ?? Did I miss it ??
I worked for Toyota in Kentucky back in 2000, and my fresh-off-the-truck Celica GT was the funnest car I've ever owned. While it wasn't fast or sporty at all, if FELT fast and sporty. Great gas mileage, and when the lease was up four years later, they charged me $0 at turn-in, because it still looked and ran like brand new. I still miss that car.
Scotty your Celica has been sitting at 240K for years 🤔😂
He probably never uses it!
Because he drives his wife's matrix
It has...🤣
Scotty turn it into a weekend warrior ever since he made it on yt. No more dailying the sportcar.
maybe the speedometer broke 😂👀😅
My 2011 Nissan Versa still works with original 4-speed automatic (not the CVT) at 255k miles and counting. Huge difference
Thats what it should do. When you 510k you have something to brag about.
Had a 2000 Celica with the 1ZZ. Loved it to bits, a semitruck crashed into it and it was totalled that it was too far gone. I was given a surprisingly big amount of compensation for the car. So i had the choice to get a practical car... but no i got another 2000 celica with the 1zz :D
The corolla/celica/matrix videos are my favorite. My Matrix is at 252k and going.
Wish I could show you my 09 Mazda 5 , it's my daily driver too for my courier job & ONLY has 590,000 !!!! & counting as of 2 days ago ABSOLUTELY AMAZING 😜 Even got 36 mpg on the great Eclipse day 😜
😮
Yea, and what repairs have u had along the way. Most with the 09 report a list of issues. Odd, yours is the exception.
@@Speedslip-bq2gk Of course I've replaced lots of things , mostly suspension , NOTHING done to the engine , not even the timing chains or fuel pump have been replaced yet , always used full synthetic oil in it & Marvel mystery oil in the gas since 106k when I bought it
@@Speedslip-bq2gkOBVIOUSLY I'VE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF IT 🤪🤪 HAVE PLENTY OF PICS TO PROVE THE MILES TOO
@@markyoung1750 Wasn't doubting u. I'm debating buying one, though..some past owners had complaint areas from door issues and other. Though, if u say u only had basic repairs,I do believe your words.
1 st. Car 1967 Datson 1600 Roadster convertible. 2 nd. New 1973 Toyota Celica GT 5 speed stick with AM radio. The good old days 😊 .Now i graduated to Lexus🎉
If the owner drives it "normally" then what is that huge red air filter doing under there 😏
Proves hes a smart guy who wants the most power without doing a major alteration. Not only that but it sounds cool too.
Scotty, you are a hoot! I never get tired of watching these. Even though I have to listen to the Toyota sermon all the time, I still love em. Cheers, man!
I had the same problem with matching burgundy paint. i used red turtle wax on one area, and black turtle wax on the other. it helped blend the paints together !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 2007 Toyota Camry and I plane to keep it for ever, I plane to be that 70 year old guy with a vintage car from 2007 in 2050 cause the car could last that long, oh and it has over 270.000 miles on it and it still runs like a top
Only reason we notice rust on Toyota's, is 20 years later the mechanicals are still perfect.
You need to turn that pentacle to where its pointing down to bring the power into you.
Id love to find an unmodified GTS model.
Scotty mentioned the good point about manual transmission. Indeed they are repairable.
2009 Honda CRV with 350,000 miles, absolutely no issues ever with the engine or transmission. Doesn't use a drop of oil! Honda CRV is the best car ever built!
Best car ever built. What a stretch.
That’s a weird name to call a 4Runner 🤔
I have the same model Celica with 2ZZ engine...happy revving❤ from Malaysia❤
I have a groovy old 2000 Avalon XL, and it still spins like a top with 170,000+ miles on it, air conditioning and all, I guess I may have ways to go before retiring it. It has served me well!
I have a 2005 Tacoma pre-runner four-door of course who will drive that has 385,000 miles no problems with the engine or transmission. I’ve tow trailers with it and I’ve driven many miles.
So if a Matrix is basically a Corolla under the hood, does that mean that the Matrix's sister car the Pontiac Vibe is also a Corolla?
Ha! I helped my mother find a car a few years ago and she got a 2017 Corrolla S like your sons. Fun little car but too many modern features for me. Ill stick with cars from 2000 and before.
Close to a year ago, I blew the engine on my 2000 celica GT with a 1zzfe engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. It was the first year they made this generation of celica, and mine is stamped number 817 with "Made in Japan" on the door sticker. It was my first car at age 18 and I have had the car for 15 years now. I put over a hundred thousand miles myself. I was not a conservative driver and was not mechanically inclined. I've been watching your vids since then Scotty and have been learning about maintenance and general car knowledge. I used to regret not taking auto shop in high school, but then maybe I would have never come across Scotty as a teacher. Anyways, I have hope for the broken down Celica in my driveway.
I own two celicas both GT.
My 2001 gt 1zz A/T when i bought it 7 years ago with less than 100k miles.
Now its driven over +340k miles on stock engine and transmission and i still daily it to this way. Yes the car rattles and has many issues which i always overlook and neglect but still she is staying strong 💪🏽
He would need a new Catalytic converter, VCV, and Charcoal Canister.
That would remove all codes and make the Celica optimal in performance and MPG.
Change the pan for the 1zzfe oil pan that as à baffle plate
98 CRV 450k miles original engine. Doesn’t burn any oil. Honda is the best.
I miss my 2001 Celica GT with a manual transmission. It was my daily driver and my road trip car. I had great memories with it. I sold before it reached 200,000 miles.
I put 467,000 on a mazda 3. sold it to neighbors kid who drove it for another 3 years before it was totaled.
Drives "normal" with a big fat aftermarket intake shining in the back. 😂 Yeah right!
Hah i thought the same xD
My favorite car in gran turismo was the trial celica. Twas a looker.
My 2006 Kia Optimas V6 had a hole in the exhaust & it instantly sounded like a proper V6. This car had the same engine as the Hyundai Tiburon GT 😎
All painters at MAACO are colorblind.
Hey everyone! Owner of the car here.
If I did an in depth personal experience video of this celica, would you watch it?
Also:
- Issues I've fixed
- What it sounds like with the exhaust fixed
- Pushing the car to 7k rpms
Weirdly the fuel cap is a weak spot, i had one pop clean off at the fuel station.
The trunk struts always go on these for some reason and every replacement ive bought never had the power to hold the heavy lid up
As you know, Scotty, these old Yamaha Celica engines have all sorts of problems.
Oh
Only the GTS model had the full Yamaha engine. Not sure how much Yammie was in the Toyota engine.
I think I remember reading somewhere years ago there is aftermarket engine oil sumps available for these that fix the oil starvation issue that kills these engines when cornering hard. Guessing it has baffles inside it to fix it.
My 2003 Corolla S has 515,000kms or 320,000 miles on it. Just traded it in on a new 2.0 litre Civic which will also last me over 300,000 miles I’m sure!
I have an '03 Saturn Ion with 350K... kms. Only 220K miles.
I'm surprised about the transmission, was the problem noise?
SOOO TRUE...
OUTSTANDING SCOTTY
Run for president USA 🇺🇸. I VOTE for Scott
the 2015 camry only hybrid only cvt what do you think about that scotty?
****I like the Toyota Celica which came with a 20 R 2.2 litre 4 cyl engine, rear wheel drive.
I had one of these model celicas and regret selling it. Never went wrong and fun to drive, and just great car
Almost sold mine... Glad I didnt
Loved mine till my ex tried to drive it like a transamerica and screwed it up
My brother has that year celica. Engine and Trans re done . Has is pushing 735hp at the wheels
If you have a red line that 7500, is over revving 4000 rpm or thats a good shift point?
You never seem to be Pissed!
Why does scotty yells at me everytime i watch his video 😆
He does not seem like he yelling at me ,I thought he was projecting to teach all of us- to make sure we get it the first time.
@@samuraibushido7077the first time? 😂 He repeats himself hardcore lol.
He’s old and has to hear what he’s saying.
@@shaggymcdaniel3216 I never thought of that. For me he really has a lot of useful tips that keeps my money in my pocket. Really ,I find his voice clear and comical.
@@CadillacDriver I never thought of that. For me he really has a lot of useful tips that keeps my money in my pocket. Really ,I find his voice clear and comical.
I had a 93' Toyota pickup with 275k miles on it...drove it for 17 years...22 r-e engine...the head gasket went...so it retired...I paid $6850 for it when I had 25k miles on it
King, I had a 92. I was (am) anal about preventative maintenance, changed the oil every 3,000 miles, all the recommended changes and procedures, drove it conservatively, expected it to last 300,000. The head gasket blew at 130,000. Top head had to be replaced. I guess I just got the unlucky draw. It was disappointing.
The dashboard on this is the exact same as my dodge stratus RT coupe
I have a 2017 Nissan Versa SV Special Edition with the same engine at 420,000 miles!
If bmw lost a gear he would say it was the worst transmission ever made. Hahaha.
....and all the people that say get a manual transmission, they last forever 😂
I mean a bmw transmission lasting 200k is not the most common thing
@@marciliojunior4919
ZF transmissions are in a lot of BMW vehicles & they are great 🤔
One of my cousins drove a silver one to prom.
Didn't they have Yamaha engines this gen of Celica's ?
Wow, this guy can do everything. He can do standup and laugh at his own jokes.
I used to get about 38 on my 07 Corolla.
Always loved the celicas.. I used to have a 76 and 77.. loved them ❤
A well taken car of 5 year old car without rust is usually the best fiscal option. Any defects would have been exposed at this point and if it was babied you've just bought 90% of the practical value for 33% of the initial cost.
If you take care of that thing, there's no reason you can't get lots of miles out of it.
Change the timing belt tentionner
We sold our 2001 Toyota echo with 300k miles. Now we have a 2009 Toyota Yaris with about 225k miles on it already. We got it will about 130k miles on in from an Olympic pole vaulter from Greece training in the US. Love our Yaris/Echo.
I like Yaris, but Toyota no longer sells them in the U.S.
My grandma luvs her Yaris 👍
@@timothykeith1367 That sucks. Maybe I should buy another one with lower miles and just store it for future use when this one dies.
My favorite Celica was that third generation that they built from 1981-85. I really didn't like it when they went to FWD after that.
The ae86
I bought a Toyota truck and a 4 cylinder. One's hot human and then coming.Get out of it's own way now.I gotta two thousand twenty one ridge line with the v six I liked that lot better
4:36 “Back in the day they had real keys”
Me looking at my Nissan fob: 🥺
No only Nissans have transmissions that go out. Commenters here told me that
well played sir.
newer ones yeah, ones built in Japan in the 90’s are amazingly well built
Well I noticed the air filter is not a genuine Toyota one and there is no plastic covering the fan and the reservoir of the cooling liquid. So this car is not really authentic but it is riding well so who care
PS I have a Celica T23 2005 143 HP doesn't burn oil noticeably
Me and my Toyota going to the moon and back
Gotta love toyotas! Specially celica!
Thanks to Scotty, i have an '08 Carolla, 1.8l , 4 speed and i love it. I put over 30k miles on it a year, maintain everything like a Lambo, and it purrs along every day
Hey Scotty, Love the car and your videos. Need your help, I remember you talking about carpel tunnel in a video where you answered questions on the computer a few years back, what was the supplement and treatment you would recommend??
Scotty, in most cases if the scratches are WHITE and the car has a clear coat odds are very good that you can just polish out the scratches by careful wet dry sanding and some compound/polish and some elbow grease. It will turn out way better than making a rattle can mess.
I have over 313,000 on my 2011 ford taurus I use it for driving rideshare
How reliable are these serious question
Hey Scotty looking to buy a used Toyota Tacoma or something similar and I want to get a used car pre purchase inspection are there any people out there or company you you recomend for a honest pre purchase inspection ??? Thank you Scotty watch your videos all the time always great info thank you so much !!!!
Miss my 84, perfect knock around daily
How do you feel about 1998 Buick lesabre custom V6. I like the car the engine is great transmission is ok going to need to get a new filter on it soon. I've noticed though since I've been working on my car I noticed they put a whole lot of cheap parts on it. Like plastic pipes on the water pump, plastic manifold sub frame bushings don't last long. Center arm rest that practically crushed the first time I leaned on it. But it handles great on the road good on gas easy to work on.
A Browning shift knob in a Celica? Is there a half-case of Natty Light under all that crap in the trunk?
Toyota is # 1 in universe
didnt this guy say he was quitting youtube
I always called that design of Celica the angry hornet
Better than the Dodge Hornet
Hey Scotty can you give me advise or you fans of Scotty. I have a 2008 Honda civic DX Coupe that has 137,000 miles in it I’m the 3rd owner of the vehicle and I’m not sure if the transmission fluid has been changed. Do you recommend me to go right ahead and change it?
My God, that shifter looks like a beer tap handle 😂
The other day you told us your Toyota broke down, so technically a running Yugo would be better at this point...
If you watched the episode, the alternator went out and he replaced it.
Actually it was the starter motor
IF you could find a RUNNING Yugo -
Fun stuff , I’ll run out to Tenn to meet you one day !
My company moved to Columbia Tn so ? Meet &greet ?
Do you have room for 6.2 million of us 😂

I just purchased a 1998 3.0 le v6 grant Annie owned first owner in California. The Camry is clocked at just over 26k miles on it.
Lemme guess before watching... another Toyota or a Honda?
omg, this person put a cold air intake in a small four-cylinder engine and put the CAI in the engine bay. lol
in 2021 The color code Scotty mentioned in the Video is for Blue Crush on Toyota Corolla the Celica was discontinued in 05-06 depending on which market after more than 30 yrs. in production currently there are 4 Toyota Models that have been in production 40 years or more Corolla Supra Camry and 4 Runner Corolla for 56 years Supra 45 yrs Camry 42 years and 4Runner 41 years respectively oh and Camry's been the top seller in its class for nearly 30 years at this point the four longest production nameplates in Cadillac history for example are Fleetwood Eldorado Deville Seville
1.8 is a miracle engine. Even some MR2 was 1.8.
Hey Scotty,
Any chance you able to know where the crankshaft sensor is located on a 2012 Buick Verano Convenience? I’m hoping you able reply. I believe you would be the only one can tell me where it’s located.
It’s just 143hp which is too low. It’s extra small car and interior is empty
I have the same Model but the 140 hp manual have 116,000km all stock all original parts and is still New
Mazda is always the answer.
We have the 2zz here in europe and they have been very good and reliable. My celica TRD engine wise have been fantastic all these years, also the body is defenatly not a corola althoug they share some parts, the celica does share parts with the Avencis and Corola, the only unics are interior, body kits and chape in general. the 7th gen Celica is actualy a nice car, but the US didn't recived it well because the front wheel drive and Honda was making more powerfull enegines at the time along with othe car manufatures. the driving experience in the celica is quite unic and that thing does actualy sticks to the road.
he gets so excited about toyota 😂
Scotty a good auto paint store can camera it 350,000 different colors, It can be matched. I painted a lot of cars, and matched lots of mixed paints
I could get nearly 40mpg in my 80's Celica & still get over 30 @ 120mph with the lights down all day long.
Everywhere was so much closer when I was young 😁If he wants to mess with it one of the earlier models might be a better choice. Difficult to even fit a strut brace in that engine bay, looks like the battery & brake master cylinder are in the way.
Depends on how stiff the car but IMO it's the most cost effective handling improvement on most regular road cars & so is always 1st on the list
Beautiful looking car.
Evap code if from the "cold air" intake wires not getting plugged in right.
How much does maaco charge if they're willing to knock off $2500
was wondering the same. they used to be the home of the "$99.00 full car repaint". haha
Hey Scotty: With all due the respect, you got it wrong. THE BEST CELICA EVER BUILT was 1993 CELICA GT-S with a stick shift. I owned one, it was SO MUCH FUN TO DRIVE THAT CAR!!! IT WAS AN AMAZING VEHICLE!!!! I had to sell it because of my move. If you can put your hands on one, then you should definitely make a video about it!!!
For Scotty, reliability is 99% of the equation.
The gt-four. My favorite car in Sega rally gt and also one of my favorites in gran turismo
