    Killer job on this. On the stacked silverware layering, I made something similar for another project. On the center layers you can cut negative space and leave the outlines of the utensils to save weight. Also have the CNC or laser drill a 1/4" hole or whatever on 2 opposing corners and use a dowel to align it. The last part is more of a stress relief when aligning for glue up. Keep it going man!

    Restaurant supply silverware. Best kept secret. I have worked in the industry and bought a set 15 years ago. The beauty is buying by the dozen, I have been able to add tasting spoon, soup spoons, different types of forks all with the same pattern/style. Even better is you can replenish as needed, as my kids have grown I find silverware all over the yard and kids play area. Not worrying about funding all my silverware is great, when I run low on say forks, I just swing by and grab another dozen for $10. You are going to love the silverware decision you made. Love all your work.

    I can certainly see a “in your house” series developing from this but be prepared to show to high end shop buyers only. If you do this these are going to be a premium range and if buyers like them expect orders in the hundreds of units. Other kitchen areas a spice rack, flour jar holders and in sitting room small desktop book cases and a similar them for children’s rooms bookcase with different animal ends.

  • @linsen8890
    @linsen8890 Před 9 měsíci +1

    I think this is great. You're totally right - commercial silverware organizers mostly suck. They look cheap and they don't fit well. Your laser cut holders look much better and fit better - for your drawer. So, if you want to make these available for sale (and I think you should!), coming up with a design that will fit any drawer within some range of typical sizes would be a requirement. That might mean just some standardized trim pieces that people could buy with the organizers to make the fit perfect. One other thing to consider - I think silverware comes in like a million different shapes and sizes. You might need to come up with a design that fits most "standard" sizes, or offer a few different designs for the cutouts that people could choose from, or something like that. It might be a lot of trouble. That might be the biggest obstacle to offering this as a product on your site. Anyway, I think this is a great idea. Even if you can't offer a solution for silverware, your solution for knives ought to work for most circumstances.

    We start with a drawer organizer and end with installing the new cabinets we built. 😂
    Restraunt supply stores are so cool! You can even buy used restraunt equipment including drink glasses, mugs etc that sometimes were never used or opened but still tagged as used.
    Chris if you ever come and visit North Texas in the Dallas area will take you to Campisi's. Been around since 1946. Youll love it!
    Thanks for another awesome video. Ive actually heen thinking about building some drawer organization. Youte so right! Nothing you buy ever fits right.

    Great effort. After 60+ years of working in kitchens, the best systems are those that are adaptable, not specific. A holder for a 6 or 8 steak knife set works. Double deck systems work. Silverware trays with additional serving piece storage works. Open trays work. Adjustable storage systems work. My favorite system was based on 2x2 grid increments, and you bought the pieces that fit your storage needs. I still use those old plastic hook together trays. Rubbermaid I think.

  • @FunPHYSICZ
    @FunPHYSICZ Před 8 měsíci

    I think it looks great and as an engineer, I love the refining process. The problem with making it an item for sale is that it looks great in that particular drawer, but the sizes of kitchen drawers are all over the place. Even in my kitchen, I have 3 different sized drawer widths and 4 different depths. These would almost need to be custom made or into something more modular so that it could be expanded. I can already see these being for sale at a farmers market, but having everyone say that they would have to go home and measure their drawers. So, the “impulse” sales would probably be nonexistent.

    Love it, brother. I love making efficient drawers in the kitchen. One that I made was a spice drawer, so I could read all of the spices when I opened the drawer. It was also a "drawer in a drawer;" so when you pulled out the drawer you saw all of the spice jars. Then you could push the top drawer back into the cavity and expose the deeper part of the drawer that stores some of the bigger spice containers, salt, and bulk spices.

Also if you made your target consumer Van life people im sure you could sell quite a few in that category alone as silver ware and glassware concerns are a huge considerationin a motor home or a conversion van. • @GunnerAl9

    The wedge idea over gluing was brilliant and that's how you should have attached each storage unit to storage unit. As far as producing a file to sell, the file would have to have something that allows the unit to adjust to close any gaps so the units once together don't move around. Drawers have different heights and some keep their knifes in a separate drawer. My kitchen has this damn 40" wide drawer that now has organizers for the rolling pins, knives, can openers, etc., problem is it weighs a ton to pull out and push back in. I love the idea, my wife, not so much - she just likes throwing stuff in the wrong drawer and searching multiple drawers for it when she needs it. Not sure if this help you or not, but it allowed me to vent! lol

    I think you should go ahead and add this kind of stuff to your sites sales. You saw how much other places are charging for that knife storage, you could easily charge less and make a good profit. I think the biggest issue is not everyone has the same size drawers, so a kit will be difficult to do.
    Also for the knife storage with the blade being down, you could put a layer of bamboo on the bottom which would in theory keep the blades from dulling.

    I'd be interested in these for my kitchen. My drawers are not near as wide as yours - so having the pieces be modular is a good idea. • @StephensAJohnson
      @StephensAJohnson Před 9 měsíci

      I think you may need to go ultra specialized. Design a small block for large spoons, another for smaller spoons, etc. Then a customer can measure their drawer and add together the slots they need until it adds up to match the dimensions of their drawer. You would probably need enough spacers to be just shy of your smallest block - maybe the butter knife block. Could have larger blocks designed to go horizontally across the back of the drawer to fill in unused space. I look forward to seeing how this shapes up.

    I love these things. I'd buy some, though I think you'd need to make the silverware cut outs a little more generic to fid a wide variety of spoons and forks. Especially long-handled iced tea spoons, which is all I own. I'm a lot further north than you, but I still prefer my iced tea southern-style sweet!
    You could definitely add a couple of slots in the bottom layer of the paring knife blocks that line up with the slots on the next one down. Or, you might add an extra pair of slots that are a little looser, so you can use removable wedges to put the three blocks together and take them apart for cleaning or moving to another drawer or whatever. And if you standardize the sizes, you might come up with some other kind of storage module that you can mix in with the paring knife blocks, for people who don't have so many paring knives.
    I wonder one thing about it though:
    Is there any special reason (cost or time) that you chose to use the laser and quarter inch material rather than the CNC and three quarter material? Or maybe a mix, since the bottom layers should be quarter inch so they don't waste space on the bottom of the drawer. Thicker material = fewer pieces = quicker assembly time.
    Suggestion for a new product: Shop storage solution (like your glue caddies) for utility knife/box cutter and blades. I have several of those cutters and they're always laying around in random spots, plus I have a big yellow container of replacement blades that I got from Harbor Freight, that hangs from my peg board. I'd love to have something a little more... Glimpse Insidey, if you know what I mean.
    Also: I've always loved those family moments in your vids. I love the project vids and the product vids, too, so keep 'em comin'.

    Great design Chris! I think you could definitely sell some of the if you made a couple different options.
    I can’t stand my silverware drawer! It seems like stuff is always shifting around and I can’t access stuff how I’d like...
    Also I love how you include your family in your videos sometimes!
    Take care buddy!
