  • How long would you wait in line for a popcorn bucket shaped like everyone's favorite little purple dragon? 30 minutes? An hour? 4 hours? 7? Y'know, I think this needs to be talked about. It needs to be documented. Which is why I'm here.

There was a limit on the buckets just like there is a limit on ALL merchandise right now in the parks. However, it's a "silent" limit, meaning there are signs up saying it, but it is up to you being a good person and following the rule. However, if you are a Karen, and ask for 10, Disney cast members can not verbally refuse you and have to give you what they want. The Karens of the world know this and take advantage of this unwritten rule.

On one hand I agree, Disney could have sold them faster, but on the other, they didn’t make anyone wait in that line. No one needed that bucket, and they should probably be ashamed that they traded a day at Disney (and for some, their kids’ day) for a bucket.
And on yet another hand, they probably ordered a fixed amount of them six months earlier and had no way to get more quickly, so selling them faster on the first day would have just meant more people with later trips would have no chance at them.

I'm someone who's never even been to WDW, only Disneyland/DCA, and I absolutely adore Figment. I always trade for Figment pins when I can find them, and he's by far my favorite Disney Parks original character. This whole mess with the popcorn buckets really cements how much people love Figment and Journey into Imagination. It really seems like a no-brainer to redo the ride to be closer to the original version. The cost of redoing it would be pocket change compared to the hordes of people coming to the park and buying new merch JUST for Journey Into Imagination.
All that said, as a DLR goer rather than WDW, I'd never wait more than an hour and a half in line for literally anything at a park, if I knew I could come back again someday. If it was a once in a lifetime trip, sure, I'd go up to three hours if and only if I had the time in my schedule to do so. I'm so used to doing single rider lines and going places during non-peak times that WDW's lines in general are mind-boggling to me. I'll stick to spending less money at the smaller parks with fewer things to do. However, if Journey Into Imagination comes back...it may just bring me to Orlando. And THAT is the power of Figment.

The same thing happened when they released the Elliot popcorn bucket for the return of the Main Street electrical parade. They sold out. Not just the buckets but all of the electrical parade merchandise. However, the difference: they had a bunch of buckets still in stock waiting to arrive at resort. I just came back from Disneyland and they had so many Elliot buckets you just wonder what they will do with them once the parade ends it’s run. And there were no lines to purchase the buckets. To be honest, the Elliot bucket looks better than the figment bucket (I know I know both of them are dragons but Elliot lights up lol).

I unironically LOVE Living w the land, man.All my family and friends really don't care for it all that much, but something about it really just scratches that Epcot itch for me. I love looking around the various scenes (before you go to the greenhouses) and just trying to find some new detail that I've not noticed before. Maybe that's something in the yard of the farmhouse scene, or a few antique-looking lanterns scattered throughout; all of the smaller stuff is just so interesting to me. Where did they get that [insert LWtL prop here]? Where did that antique plow start its life? How did this object end up living out its days being seen by thousands of people every day in a Disney ride? I just love that stuff and LWtL is chock full of it. Then, of course the greenhouses are awesome too. Idk, I just feel like I have a special connection with that ride.
On another note, and it's kinda scary that I even have to say this, but hopefully it sticks around and is able to make it through the current Disney leadership. It embodies Epcot for me personally, and the thought of it going away in favor of making some new cheap IP ride (as is the case for a ton of rides at this point) is heartbreaking. When LWtL dies, Epcot dies. It would no longer be the park it was meant to be, it would just become another catch-all park with a bunch of rides that don't fit together, make no sense, and are clear cash grabs. Please, just keep Epcot alive. Ok ok, yes, you can make Hollywood Studios into another catch-all for IP attractions that don't fit any theme anymore, but PLEASE don't hurt my dearest, Epcot. Keep Epcot Epcot. It deserves to be treated with respect.

My cousin used to work the ride as a student. He just passed in fall from covid and left 2 little boys. Figment was his favorite so when our family heard there would be a figment bucket we told the boys and they got excited. Not thinking at all that it would be an issue we told them we could get one for each of them so when they went to Disney next time it felt like a part of Dad was with them. Cut to a few days later and Disney is hyping up this bucket like no ones business. We knew then it was going to be a problem. I called a friend who was going day 2 of FOTA and asked her to do her best. Then day one had “7 hour” lines and I told her forget it. She was awesome and waited only 1 hour (still 55 mins too long for a bucket!) on day two and was able to get one and said she would try again for another later on in the festival if she could. She said a lot of it was hype. Disney knew what they were doing 100%. Its a damn popcorn bucket. They hyped it online to create the buzz and it went viral. People wanted it b/c its exclusive. Had they just put it out at all the snack kiosks, one special line and not made such a huge deal about it then that 7 hour wait would not have happened. They will do anything right now to have you waste your standby time and get you to buy Genie+ in order to experience rides and attractions. It used to be the only people who even got fun popcorn buckets were kids who threw tantrums for them on the popcorn line. Now its adults throwing tantrums for them. Its bull. My friend who waited is an angel for trying to make two grieving boys happy. They’ll be grateful to share their bucket. Hope the resellers and collectors have fun with their dust magnets.

I work for Bath and Body Works and we have problems with resellers too! One time we had a couple come in and spend over $5,000 on product and it took us AN HOUR to scan and pack all of it. I have a theory (just my personal theory, not related to the company at all) that resellers are trying to prey on the international market and use that as an excuse for the high prices. Someone in France who really wants that popcorn bucket can go online and find it but the resellers are going to argue “oh well shipping fees and international costs” to justify the exorbitant price tag when really a lot of it is their own greed. It’s so sad!

I saw the original on my honeymoon and have been an avid fan ever since. I don't mind the current version but still miss Dreamfinder.
What I'd like to see is a new version of it based on the comics. It gives a solid nod to the original ride, adds to the story without feeling too dated, and opens up more possibilities and ways they can expand on his story.
And it gets rid of the whole scientist gag that's outlived it's usefulness that really didn't age well.

It hasn't helped that a friend of mine told me that they'll most likely create a new ride before even touching Journey Into Imagination. It does help to see so many people genuinely get excited over this popcorn bucket because they love the character. I think I will just continue to foolishly hope they'll announce the revamp soon.
