This is when Queen did less anthem rock....my favorite album by them. Brighton Rock and Now I'm Here are two other heavier songs off of this album, also. Then, they can switch into Lily of the Valley or Killer Queen (which are great)....love this band.
Love this song. Sheer Heart Attack is another fast banger. Doin Alright is my favorite off the first album.

I have the long playing record of this album. At the back, there's a note saying "No synthesizers were used in the making of this album". They had this note behind all their early albums. Right up to "Jazz", I think. BTW, there's another great song from this album called "Tenement Funster". Written and sung by drummer Roger Taylor.
I think it was "The Game" that used synthesizers for the first time. But I'm old and forgetful, so...

It will be interesting to see what is in your marathon...hope its live versions of Liar, Father to Son, Sons and Daughters all from the Rainbow, 1974 and PLEASE do the beginning of the Milton Keynes, 1982 concert to see and hear "Hero/We Will Rock You" (fast version) which is the ultimate way to start a concert. It blows me away every time - you 3 guys would love it!
You should check the live version of this song from the 1974 live at the Rainbow concert and the song Liar too! From the same concert.
Okay I've read all the comments and why does nobody mention the obvious?
The best song on the album is the first Queen song I ever heard and their best imo. KILLER QUEEN. Yes I like it better than Bohemian Rhapsody or We are the Champions. I'm probably in a cult of one which is why nobody mentioned it. So it's not so obvious, is it? Of course their #2 best song is Love of my Life which Freddy wrote about a woman who probably broke his heart and ruined him for all women. Sad! She must have been something!!
Btw I always liked SCC but I'm not a fan of metal at all.
This song was featured in the movie Frozen Californian with Brendan Fraser and Poley Shore.
Another good one that rocks is I'm In Love With My Car. Lead vocals are by Roger Taylor instead of Freddie.

I've always liked the earlier harder stuff by Queen. There is so much more than Bohemian Rhapsody. To be honest if I'm driving and it comes on I change stations immediately. I mean it's good but far from their best in my opinion ☺

Kinda has a Cagey Criton vibe...at first. Can say never heard this. Freddy never fails to deliver. Way different than their other songs. But you can tell it is the sign of the times ('69/'70). Wow way short! Will go listen to the Metallica version.

@@heatherturner6955 Listen to live version from Queen. Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow 1974. It is far, far better then the studio version, it is more harder edged. A lot of Queen songs are better live, this is one of them. James does good job, but his voice is a bit slow at times. Also check out the version where James sing this at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, alongside the rest of Queen, that is his best version.

Metalica fkkt with the lyrics, where Freddie sings, "rubber tommy water gun", James sings "ooo with my tommy gun". I think Queen's song was misrepresented in that way, all for the sake of upping the violence vibe. Queen should have gotten the Grammy.
