At 5:14PM Friday February 3, 2023 Allentown Transmitted box 2763 for 519 South 23rd Street for a house fire sending Engines 10, 4, 11, 9 (F.A.S.T.), Truck 1 and Battalion 43. Immediately after dispatch, Engine 10 reported a header from their station. Minutes later Engine 10 went on location reporting fire from all sides of a 1-1/2 story single family dwelling (SFD) and leading off with a 2-1/2" hand line.
The fire spread to the south exposure which was an identical to the original fire building. Battalion 43 arrived and struck the 2nd alarm bringing in Engines 6, 14, Truck 2 and Air 1.
It took firefighters over 1.5 hours to bring the fire under control. The winds were very strong and the temps in the teens and lower with the wind chill. The streets department was notified for salt as the water was freezing on the streets.

Ps throw a "super thanks" my way! I greatly appreciate it.
#fire #allentown #firefighting
I can’t believe the lack of aggressive interior attack!!!!
My thoughts exactly
Was hoping someone noticed this. Fire is in the knee wall/void space. Get in there and open it up!
You were a go-getter eh Gasser?
One of the coldest days of the year so far bill you brave the elements and still manage to do great coverage fire coming from roof shows how strong the winds are .
Thanks!
Video should be titled "2 houses total losses due to terrible fire tactics"
Good bucket work, when I was a volunteer fireman we responded to a 5 story factory fire. In the beginning of February and the temperature was like 10 below.
Everything was coated in ice including us, that was a fire I'll always remember.
Great video work
hey there folks. the blue house belonged to my uncle. his entire family including him got out safe but they're pet cat which was unaccounted for survived. they're other animals didnt make it out. currently they are living in another house paid for they're insurance, whenever they get the money they're moving to another house since of course they dont feel safe in that house anymore since it wasnt really well designed for a fire. everyone was safe, thank you all for youre thoughts and prayers.
God Bless those Firemen & you for recording this. It was so raw frigid cold with the wind whipping it's no wonder the flames jumped to the next home. They were cute cape cod like homes.
Good job Allentown. I fought three lumber yard fires in below 0temps. Hope all firemen were okay.
Another Great video bill thanks and best regards from Maine
Thank you Scott.
Gotta love PA weather. Gonna be frigid Saturday, but almost 50 on Sunday. Zero consistency
Sucks every day of the year.
It was brutal out. Great footage again! ❤ 🫵🏼👀🫵🏼
Good example of how you can open windows instead of breaking glass and frames
special thanks to NEWSWORKING CREW that was out filming these events during this cold snap. Great coverage, keep covered and warm please.
Thank you for the kind words.
Great video, hope everyone stays safe.
my uncle lives in one of the buildings, his entire family is now homeless.
unfortunately they're pet cat died :(
@@843Reboot prayers to your Uncle and his family 🙏🏻
@@erikturner8687 ive not got much contact with him because hes out in PA and im back in NYC but im trying to get updates from him. praying that hes alright. unfortunately they lost they're pet cat in the fire. unsure what they'll do after this one :(
Hi Bill great video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
JC. Get inside the exposure and put the fire out. This is embarrassing.
Do you see the hose in the front door? I don’t think they are watering plants.
@@psdesert7907 they must have been because they sure weren't fighting fire. Someone in this thread who appears to have been there said they were too tired and already broke down their lines to go home since only the attic was still burning.
Right? They never should have lost the Bravo 1 in the first place. Use a deck gun to hit the Delta of the dormer and that handline the guy on the ladder is using to cover the Bravo 1 - no fire on B1!
I agree a complete debacle ,
Mall they had to do was go in to the second floor open up the ceiling and walls and put the fire out. Sad
Fantastic work William
Many thanks!
Great video billy
THANK YOU!
I've been firefighter since two years ago
It's really love
I just begin to share my missions videos...
🚒🧑🚒
They did a great job with the conditions and they did have hand lines in the house. You need to do everything the safest way. Very cold and windy doesn't help.
Awesome video Bill. Good work
Thanks 👍
Prayers
Awesome job by the aerial boys
Just a thought: Ever notice that many structure fires, especially failing or serious in-debt, tend to vexingly catch fire when the weather has strong wind and or very dry air.
Some questions in the comments about interior attack. One line is visible at the front (A side). Whether another in the rear or not, can't tell, but I'm guessing that with fire being so well involved in two dwellings, and no entrapment to speak of, Command kept interior attack to a minimum and concentrated on exterior attack and exposure protection of uninvolved dwellings for safety reasons.
thank you for the information.
The fire looks to be in the knee wall/void space on the second floor. There’s no worrying signs for going interior on this fire. No dark turbulent smoke. Lazy fire venting though openings because they haven’t had good water application on it. Sure is a lot harder to get at a fire on the inside of a house from the outside. Also good luck with the axe to the guy on the roof. Maybe check for the vent saw/chain saw on the rig 😂
Was the exposure not taken serious enough?? Appears that it was well off before the fight started. On a call with weather like that you need to call in additional resources right away and set up warming stations. Luckily it didn't spread to the next in line exposure....
I have to ask why no one went to top floor pulled ceiling and put that fire out. This is not a complicated fire.
wind driven fires are another monster entirely good job to these firefighters
Not here to criticize, cold freezing weather, wind driven fire, fire in the attic space and on attic space and behind wall in Delta side. I see that 2 windows on was floor were opened, those should of been closed to control the venting and feeding the fire. By closing those windows could of changed the game plan (in my opinion) I don't think or saw anyone in the 2nd floor fight an attic fire. I think a hose should if been left on Delta dumping water on that wall, maybe even cut the wall with a chain saw and make more if a direct attack and from the inside towards Delta side. But wind driven fires are hard to fight and win.
We've fought a fire when hurricane Dolly when thr eye was in land. Rain Water was flying side ways and fire was not able to be controlled.
Great video by the way
Guessing 32 was there with the cascade truck?
Yes they were
What’s up great videos
trying to stay warm! Thanks for the kind words
Wish you would say which state.
Pennsylvania.
Thank you
Was an interior attack not an option? Not judging, just asking.
Great question
Having it inside and using it aren’t the same thing
Wind is merciless.
Cletusville Fire Dept? WTF?
Wow that's terrible.
You did a amazing job make you wear face mask in the cold ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!!
@@newsworking Are you are welcome to do an amazing job
Wind and Fire. THE WORST OKAY
So maybe they did okay job. This fire was over think. Go in Attack the fire from the interior side. Go upstairs get you some pike pole start pulling down the drywall. Extinguish the fire that way. Too much time was wasted.
Why the hell are they not in there house putting the fire out wtf
“How to lose a house i. 15 minutes”
Really confused. Don't want to judge since I must not be seeing the whole picture.
I arrived to the scene about 25 minutes into the call. The first arriving companies had fire showing to the left of the building in my video. The home was fully-involved and fire was showing from all sides. The members of Engine 10 stretched a 2-1/2" hand line to the main fire building and made an aggressive attack (Not in video). The high winds blowing to the south pushed the fire to the adjoining house and worked its way up into the attic area of that home. Members had a hand line stretched to the interior of the second home. As the fire continued to extend and work its way through the voids, truck ops opened up the roof and found large amounts of fire so they decided to use the deck gun of the tower ladder to finish off the fire. The Aerial scope when used properly can extinguish large amounts of fire in a timely fashion. The AFD did an excellent job at this fire for what they have to work with. Engine companies are manned by a driver and two firefighters. Six engines and two trucks worked the fire under the command of the Battalion Chief.
@@newsworking thanks for the additional. I retired from reading so I'm well aware of working short handed. Only 2 to a piece
Pennsylvania Volunteer Firefighters just make me scratch my head...…That's all I can say.
Allentown is career department.
@@newsworking There were handlines in service in both buildings and an aggressive interior attack was made on arrival. When this video was taken, the remaining fire was confined to the upper attic space and inaccessible from the inside. Guys were spent, temps were single digits with high winds, and alot of hose had already been picked up to put companies back in service (which they did for a rescue as they were clearing this call). Yes, there's a handline inside still. Some context in these videos would go a long way for the armchair quarterbacks out there.
@@res25cue37 I agree. There’s so much more to the videos than just what you’re seeing. I’ll give it more thought about adding voiceover or something else.
@@newsworking Wow....don't look like it
@@res25cue37
We were cold and tired so we just packed up our hose and let the entire house burn. We even put our aerial back in the cradle mid fire. It was cold too. You should print that on your next fund drive mailer or present it at the city budget hearing. Definitely put it in your press release. You'll get all the funding you need 😂
I hope that shortly after the fire was extinguished the insurance company sent teams to board up the house , shut off the water and winterized the house. that is if the house was not a total loss. btw when I saw 2 windows opened on the second floor, rather than broken out, I thought to myself, these guys are Not volunteers, that love to take irons to everything in sight!
The windows are the least of these people's problems.
@@Twobarpsi that's for sure but my point is that breaking out every single one is not always necessary.
@@samrock7632 wouldn't opening or smashing windows add more oxygen to the fire?
Pathetic firefighting they may aswell just stood around and watched that house burn to the ground , spraying water everyfeckinwhere exept on the fire , should all be out of a job !!!
