At 19:55 Thursday evening, Allentown transmitted box 2555 for 440 North Fulton Street on a house fire sending Engines 10, 4, 9, 6 (F.A.S.T.), Truck 2 and Battalion 43 (Hess).
Dispatch advised the units that police were on location reporting smoke showing. Engine 10 arrived and stretched in for a fire on the 1st floor of a 3-story M/O/R (middle-of-row). Engine 6 took the rear and stretched a hand line for fire venting out the back of the house.
Battalion 43 reported a working fire and special-called an additional Engine to the scene (Engine 11). Shortly after, as crews made the hit inside, they discovered fire extension in the walls and traveling vertically to the second floor and cockloft. The Battalion Chief ordered the 2nd alarm struck (Engine 13).
30 minutes into the call, the fire aggressively made its way to the cockloft and started extending horizontally. The Battalion Chief had the 3rd alarm struck bringing in the last available Engine, Engine 14 to the scene.
The fire extended throughout the cockloft and damaging 8 homes in its path. A off-duty firefighters were called in to man reserve Engines 8 and 12 and ordered to the fire scene, essentially making this a 4th alarm fire.
It took about 3 hours to bring the fire under control.
Tough stop with building design and multiple exposures! Great video, thank you.
Fire started at 440 N. Fulton St., took the house next to it and then burned the other way down to the end of the block. Took a total of 8 homes. Somehow, the two houses at the beginning of the block survived despite having only one home buffering them from the fire's origination point at 440.
Probably one of the best channels I've subscribed to. Listen to calls on the computer via Broadcastify. Little Blitz 85 LZFD retired Illinois
This went from a small fire to hit the oh shit button
Looks like a lot of open void spaces and the fire took off and spread pretty quickly in that old balloon frame style row homes and no fire break or walls in them.
I'm no fire expert..but how a fire that was contained to go to a 4 alarm is beyond me. I think whoever ordered the firefighters who clearly had the fire contained out of the buildings..that was a major mistake. Everything was contained...there was no reason to pull them out unless the back of the house was fully engulfed. and if you watch closely...youll see the fire on the right side of the home it was completely out to becoming uncontrollable.
katnnumber1fan you are right...you are no fire expert!
wow oh wow.. those row houses are just dangerous.1 goes they all go..was there a fire wall .. looks like once it hit the roof. firewall dies nothing
Sherrone Boudreau : the town I lived in was like this. The whole block of houses went. The houses were over 100 years old. It was a small mining town. A lot of homes had coal heat.
real nice footage bud, nice. As always from Boston, stay safe out there buddy. later.
I watched parts of this on periscope and I did realize it was this bad, great video. aye what happen to the part where you were hit by the water. I also have to say just like you I am paranoid about fires, because I live in a travel trailer I don't sleep well and I have to admit that I sleep with a fire extinguisher, yeah it is right next to me and another thing I do is make sure that I know where my cat is at all times and next to me is a high powered flash light, I am super paranoid
I wasn't scoping when hit by the water stream, if I was my cell phone would have gotten it good.
I think you need to understand everything we do is dangerous. If you have working smoke detectors and clear acess for exiting you have a good chance of getting out. If you live in older trailer watch for heavy ac and portable heater use. Have faith in your firefighters but be aware of your surroundings. The first sign of smoke call 911.
The outside initially did nothing but push the fire inward and through the cockloft. Ppplannin
Excellent footage on this one. Communications are a little chaotic.
Gregg Goss,
Agree, Excellent coverage cameraman!
Great footage
thanks!
Champion camerawork.
thank you
stubborn fire.
It appears the flames were extinguished before the video starts. What happened? Are these men certified? Who is the chief... Absolute failure on decision making & timing!
Steven J. Trump 2020 this very well may be the dumbest comment of all time!
Steven J. Trump 2020 the fire was inside the wall cavities of these balloon fame structures that is why you do not see fire in the beginning and the cameraman started recording after the initial fire was knocked down
great video 👍 👍
So why isn't the city , using the volunteer stations , 3292 is already AFD AIR 1,. why not use Stations 2, 3, 11, 31, 32, 33, & 36 ???
COMPUTERZONEOFPA : Where in Allentown is this?
COMPUTERZONEOFPA : some of those fire stations are probably on Mutual Aid.
how do you get that close to the events without being moved?
