Thanks for posting this. I recently purchased a home with a double gate into the back yard. I was unsure of how to secure it. This will help tremendously

Good use of rebar. A bit of cutting with a powerplasma cutter and a bit of welding and done.

It's not perfect, but it's a good idea. Thanks for the video.

If someone is trying to recreate this and they do not have a welder, drilling a hole through the pipe and using a carriage bolt (because the rounded head would be smoother) should also work.
Now, unless you have some sort of blocking mechanism to catch that handle, it really doesn't make any sense to have the pipe rotate since you can slide the pipe regardless of the position of the handle.

Nice. Similar to my plan, which I still like a bit better, to use vertical pipe going into a hole in the ground; the pipes would hook together. You could use PVC instead, lighter weight but schedule 40 should be plenty strong. Then no welder needed, just drill to insert a bolt for a handle. Of course, it’s white, so if you didn’t like that you might want to stain it. Thanks.

Another good idea! I was actually thinking about how I could make Anatolii's white to match my PVC fencing, but this may be a better option yet!

I did something similar for a six foot high double gate at the end of my driveway. I took a four foot metal rod and bent it 90 degrees about five inches from the top to use as a handle to lift the rod. The rod slides up and down through two eye bolts on the end of one gate to the ground. I used a galvanized steel rod but you could use rebar. I buried 1'x1' paving stones even with the ground along the gates and drilled a hole through one of them for the rod to drop down into to hold the gate closed. I drilled another hole in the driveway which is used to keep it open. To open the gate I lift the rod out of the paving stone, push the gate open and drop the rod into the hole in the driveway. I call this the anchored gate. I use a store bought gate latch from the other gate to the anchored gate to keep it closed.

drill holes thru and use bolt and nuts instead of self tapping screws to hold that big piece of pipe.

There is no way to open it from outside. I got a door next to the gate to walk in and out and I only using the gate to drive a car in to my back yard.
