I tried learning modular synthesis for free (vcv rack)

- In this video I show what I have managed to achieve after a couple of weeks of learning modular synthesis as a beginner. I use VCV Rack which is free modular synth software. I start with going over the basics and then I show the first few patches that I made in VCV Rack.
If you like what I do, consider “buying me a coffee” / tipping me via my kofi (I could really use the extra £s right now):

the combo of form and function in your information delivery is art. like i'm sure you know this/you can't make something this cool without knowing what you're doing but GOD DAMN, YA SURE DID IT
Very nice video, thanks for sharing.
I'm just getting into modular, started with VCV Rack a couple days ago, and it's actually so good that it makes me reconsider buying any modular hardware at all...
absolutely love your videos! keep em coming
I agree with the other comments, you video's are great! I appreciate the tempo and your calm voice. Following your journey through all your experiments is very interesting!
Thanks!
Awesome insights and presentation Phase !
This video made me want to try this
Wow that's amazing I have to check this out. Thanks for sharing this
OMG thank you so much your simple explanation cleared up so much confusion
I think your patches sound very good for a beginner, good luck with your VCV journey.
Thanks!
This is the first video of yours I've seen, I watched it all the way through. Please make more! I sound like a robot. Beep boop.
great job
Nice summary and good progress for being only about three weeks into your modular journey 👍 I was still following along with tutorials after three weeks, not creating my own patches 😄
thanks, to be fair I probably spent an unhealthy amount of time working on this during those 3 weeks, I tend to get really sucked into things :D
@@ph4sespace I've always found that the line between productive and unhealthy can be a blurry one ;-)
I have 33U of hardware modules (4 cases). Eurocrack indeed. Found your channel because I'm learning Touchdesigner, but this was a nice surprise.
I'm studying music and technology and really enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them!
What laptop do you use? Can you tell me its detailed specs. Yout chanell is so unique and awesome.
was there some channels you followed for tutorials?
Like could you make a list of courses and tutorials you took?
Do you have any knowledge of music production/sound design? like envelopes, LFOs, LPFs, etc? I did, so I started by just trying to create sounds using the sound design concepts I already knew, figuring out how to do them in modular form by watching a few youtube videos (I think mainly Omri Cohen, like his video on SurgeXT and some others). Any term I came across that I didn't know about (like v/oct, CV, sample and hold, etc) I found a video on or just googled and I went from there. I also watched videos about specific modules like from 'Your Pal Rob' which I found helpful and gave me inspiration for patches. Looking back through my watch history the videos I watched seem kinda random, there wasn't really a logical order to them I just watched any video that looked interesting or addressed a specific gap in knowledge I had while I was trying to build patches. I think my main advice would be that for tutorials you follow, you need to try out your own ideas and variations of it so that the concepts sink in - you don't learn from blindly following what someone else is doing
@@ph4sespace yeah so i should really understand synths first before diving in
@@ph4sespace and yeah you do not learn from blindly following someone else
working on a similar exploration from touchdesigner to this and loved your content, I also produce techno and would love to generate some visual content for it with collaboration if you are up for it.
