I love how Lloyd is learning a German accent years after he played Hitler 3 times.
He’s trying an ACTUAL one. The Hitler one was highly exaggerated because it was meant to be insulting to Hitler himself. No one is going to take imitating a legit German accent for playing fucking Hitler when it’s a parody. For anyone else probably gonna really try unless that person was just as shitty as him.
That and the first Hitler battle was the first official erb. So ofc he isn’t going to be doing a legit accent it was just some silly little thing they were doing back then.
Well Hitlers public speeches sounds exagerated and cartoony even to Germans, its easy to make a parody of this recipe. In private, even Hitler did not talk like that. And German has so many dialects, you could make up any faux dialect and still legimatly claim its imitating German. Just watch "Das Boot" (in German) and you get through a very good collection of dialects.
Of course he shouldda done an Austrrrrian accent then
that wasn't even a german accent, he just made his voice shrilly and sharp and then pronounced the Ws like Vs and the 'the's like 'ze'.
I love how detailed they always are in their research. That's what makes the battles work, imo.

I loved the part near the end when they were in the car. It made the last verses even better. I had no idea you used an actual car. At first glace, I thought the car was greenscreened in.

As a history teacher, love the amount of effort you guys put into research and accents. I love sharing your videos with students, clean versions when I can and tell them to watch them at home when I can't. I may even use this one when we cover the Gilded Age later this year!

I coach scholastic bowl, and frankly, it's nearly aggravating how many questions I've read in practice or in matches that make me go "there's an ERB for this one".
The one thing I wished y'all had been able to include in the lyrics was how Ford got kicked out of almost every company he founded - which then went on to become his direct competition (Cadillac, Dodge, etc).

I never watched one of these BTS videos before. But I had to since Ford v Marx just got into my head and I needed to know more. I gotta say, the amount of research and work you all put into these videos is incredible. It's always been obvious that y'all work your asses off but to see what goes into the production really brings it home. No wonder your content has been so good for so long! Shit, Lloyd is over here learning an extinct Prussian accent so he can have a unique sound for a guy whose voice was literally never recorded. Not to mention learning all these obscure facts to actually write the raps.

Lloyd's make up is, once again, ridiculously good. There were moments and shots that looked so accurate they were biopic quality. That's a HELL of a makeup job for just 90 minutes of chair time.
Very satisfying that Lloyd actually read some Marx and came away thinking, “Oh, dude’s definitely on to something!”
judging by how there were no historians (correct me, if I'm wrong) involved it turned out surprisingly well

I actually think Henry Ford vs Karl Marx was the best battle you guys have ever done. The raps hit incredibly hard, the historical references were incredible, production was off the charts. So many lines had double meanings, when you break down the entire battle it really encourages you to actually learn the history so you can appreciate the depth of the writing. And the whole thing sounds sick. Incredible!

Love the battle - and, as always, the Behind The Scenes! One small thing: Karl's birthplace Trier lies in the far west of Germany (directly on the border with Luxembourg) and only became part of Prussia in 1816 (2 years before Marx was born), more or less as a Prussian conquest after the Napoleonic Wars. His accent was therefore Rhinelandic/Moselle-Franconian, not Prussian (which was in the far east). However, it probably sounded quite similar to English ears, so it still fits ^^

I've been a fan of ERB for a year now, and the last battle released at the time was Lara Croft vs. Indiana Jones. This is the first battle I saw released, and it's a banger.
as a person growing up in a post-communist poland i can empaphise with epiclloyd learning the disparity between the 'devious' connotations of communism a lot of people are taught from a young age as opposed to the actual humane and perceptive ideology behind the original movement

Saying that ‘communism’ is bad because people tried it and that’s it, is just denying factors or reasons to have played in a part.
Communism has never been tried, the building of a socialist coalition has, it never was able to flourish due to the horrible conditions of the world. The USSR was built on the October revolution in a backwater severely underdeveloped country. Tsarist russia was very poor and very uneducated on mass. After the revolution, the communist party had to on mass try its best to educate the majority of the population and start local and state funded farms. Which worked well for the most part aside from the famine, due to crop failure and miscommunication. Stalin didn’t help too much with his relief efforts being stifled with his efforts to contain the information. (This is very very gross simplification of the eastern USSR famine)
The USSR had very little allies, a bloody revolution. A famine, and world war 2, which they took on 3/4ths of the Nazi army on the eastern front. Then sanctions from 30+ countries and the western world funding death squads and color revolutions aka the white army. Then the US making nuclear weapons forcing the USSR to arm itself, the USSR tried to deescalate the arms race. This costed them so many resources.
But despite this, the USSR was able to nearly triple the literacy rate, raise the standard of living by 32 years. Stopped the homelessness until the dissolution of the USSR(which was illegal) 1991.

puyi is the only one I wouldn't include from this list because realistically he didn't actually do anything. his life story is interesting yes but he spent most of it either in exile, as a regular citizen, or as a puppet politician under the japanese. he's notable for his status as the last emperor of china, but not for anything he actually did or believed in as that emperor

Pete's a great director, but there's something about the two of you going all out and only focusing on your characters. This is the first battle in a while where I felt super nostalgic. The match-up and interaction had big Tesla vs Edison energy. You even produced the music! Thank you for this battle, you both knocked it out of the park.

As a Marxist, it's always interesting to me to see the various ways people come to actually reading Marx instead of just believing whatever they've heard about him. Researching him in order to write a rap for a rap battle video is certainly one of the more interesting ways I've heard lmao. But I'm glad y'all did.

Would you consider maybe going a lil in depth about in some of the lines in the battles in these Behind the scenes because even if its just some stuff, learning stuff is still cool, like how Sabaton has a history channel where they post a explanation of the historical event they are singing about giving you more appreciation of the song and of the historical event as well.

The long awaited President Nixon who attempted to hold onto power by cheating and forced to release it versus Cincinnatus- the Roman Senator who didn't desire absolute power, wanted to work and keep to his farm, but after many people begged him to save them he took power temporarily, secured their independence, and willing relinquished & refused absolute power twice after completing his duty.
Everyone thinks about the Roman Empire guys remember.. and you've wanted to do Nixon for a long time. It's the perfect matchup.
