  • This is a review of the Shinko E-805 (rear tire) that ran for 5200 miles on my BMW R1200GS Rallye. This was a great tire.

    I'm coming up on 8000 miles on the original Metzler Tourance tires on my BMW G310GS, which is 2000 miles more than I expected to get out of those 90% road tires. Until my baby ADV bike, I've always ridden small dual sport thumpers with knobbies, since 1975. I loved the Tourance tires on the road but I need better off road performance. I'll be installing the Shinko 804/805 tires... or possibly the similar Kenda Big Block tires.

      Can't beat the price for those tires. My all time favorite knobby tires is the Bridgestone Battle Axe AX41.

    I've heard many bad things about the 805 but I th8nk that is mostly from people who push the limits of it.
    It's good to hear a good review for a change.

    Got my front and rear for $190 Cdn. Just put 10,000 km on them and they still have a little life in the rear, front is fine. Did highway and several passes in Colorado and they worked very well, no complaints.

    Nice review. I’ve been happy with Shinko’s 705 for street oriented tire. I’ve run a couple TKC80’s and they perform well, but would not have made that mileage. Have Scouts on now, and they seem spooky in wet conditions. I may have to try 804/805 next time.

  • @ClinttheGreat

    Impressive mileage. I ran the Shinko 805/804 combination on my VStrom on a number of fully loaded trips over both paved and dirt and the back is worn out after about 3,000miles. The front probably has another 1,000 miles left. They’re great tires performance wise, but longevity isn’t very long, but I suppose for the price you shouldn’t expect perfection.

    I just pulled the trigger on an 804/805 set for my 2021 T7. Under $240.00 shipped/taxed on Motosport in May of 2022. They are replacing the stock Pirelli Scorpions which I absolutely hated. I was convinced I was going to put on tires with a "V" or chevron type pattern, ( think Metzeler Karoo 3's) but decided to take a chance on the Shinkos based on the HUGE amount of positive reviews. We'll see.

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  Před 2 lety

      You made the right decision. The Karoo 3 has significant diffecincies. I have had issues with Chevron pattern tires. The front tire washes out really easily in loose terrain.

    I had a similar issue with the air pressure loss. In my instance the air leak was at the rim. What I did was take the wheel off, broke the bead from the rim and cleaned out some dirt from where the bead seats in the rim and used a bead sealant- then reset the bead. I haven't had a problem since. Not a sure thing, but that's more common in bias ply tires than radials.

    Helpful, factual review. I'm looking for a durable 50/50 or 40/60 (street / dirt) tire for my 2003 KTM 640 ADV. Not sure if the E-804 / 805 would fit but, if it does, I'd imagine I'd get better longevity out of them since the bike weighs 350 pounds dry (about 400 wet plus luggage).

    Oh wow. I’m pretty easy myself I thought. I ran my TKC80 at 42 rear and ate it up. Some say to lower the psi so it wears more evenly. I’m currently running 36 rear and it seams to be wearing a bit better. I’m always spinning and sliding when Off Road si maybe there’s the reason. LOL.

      @@nsrlegaltech Glad to hear you have had good luck with yours. I really liked them except for the durability. The ride that caused the cut almost through the belts is posted on here. I don't think the terrain is anything that should have caused that extent of damage- speeds were low. Anyway, I'll chalk it up to bad luck and see how the AX41 works. So far so good though I haven't even scrubbed them in yet (about 200KM) or had them in the dirt.

    Hey Matt,
    Drop the cash on the Dunlop Traimax missions or go for the 805??? Thanks in advance!

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  Před 3 lety

      Tough question to answer. The tire compound on the Trailmax is harder. It depends on how much offroad you will be riding. The knobby front tire of the 805 will perform better offroad. If you plan lots of road miles to get in some offroad the Trailmax will be the better choice. I got 9500 miles on the rear Trailmax. The front Trailmax has a lot of life left. If offroad traction is the priority I think I would choose the 805.

    • @advmatt
