if i like musicians i don't care if they do the same good stuff or try out new things. usually it's all at least good enough to repeatedly listen to it. i trust them to do things that make them 'happy' and that they do the best they can/want. and if it sucks because i don't like the style (or whatever): there are more musicians to discover :)
Exactly!! I think some listeners problem is that they want to be nostalgic all the time. They want the band to continue sounding like when they first discovered them. But that’s simply not what music is about. For the artist it’s about honing in your craft and making music that they want to make, to the best of their ability. For the listener, it should be supporting the artist regardless if you like the new stuff or not.
