I think this is called "Accommodation". It the eye's ability to focus quickly from close objects then re-focus onto distant objects. Our eyes are doing this naturally during our waking hours. But such exercises are said to improve and strengthen the eye muscles that allow the eye to adjust from close up to distant objects. Whether or not it helps with Glaucoma, I am not sure that it will make much difference.
This exercise is good for anyone with two eyes, including (but not especially) those with glaucoma. An example of a more directly effective exercise in glaucoma would be rebounding, which increases lymphatic drainage and therefore outflow of fluid from the eye. Dr. Grossman mentions glaucoma and other eye diseases because in almost every eye disease, increased visual awareness, stress reduction and enhanced circulation are supportive of prevention and healing.

but this exercise does make sense. i mean lack of exercise causes obesity. lack of eye exercise means 'lazy' eye
