  • The Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider is the Air Force's new stealth bomber. Slated to begin flight tests in 2023, the secretive aircraft was revealed to the public in December 2022. Capable of nuclear and conventional missions, the Air Force plans to use the B-21 to replace an aging bomber force over the coming decades.
"The B-21 looks very similar to the B-2 because the fundamentals of stealth and long-range penetrating air are built around the concept of a flying wing," said Doug Young, vice president and general manager, strike division at Northrop Grumman. "And that even goes back to the YB-49 jet when Jack Northrop actually created some of the first flying wings.'
Watch the video above to find out more about the new high-tech stealth bomber slated to fly in 2023.

I work as a machinist in the aerospace industry. At my previous employer I made a handful of different part numbers for the new B-21, mostly titanium. We were told we got a contract for a new aircraft, they speculated a new bomber but we were told nothing else. So for a few years we started producing these parts, mostly on 5-axis milling centers. An insane amount of time, effort, money and tooling went into just what we produced. And to know that these aircraft consist of thousands of complex individual parts, that all require a high level of precision, really is a testament to the human spirit to create. Its amazing. Now I can say with certainty that the aircraft shown in this video has a few parts that I manufactured and inspected with my own hands. Pretty cool feeling to see it complete because when you’re manufacturing individual parts, they feel inconsequential. Just “widgets” for “who knows what.” Well here it is. Very proud to be apart of it, even with my role being small and relatively insignificant.

That's really cool, It's interesting how some work will be given to third party producers. I always figured lockheed did everything in house for secrecy. But it makes sense seeing how the B-2 was built. Must be really cool being able to say you helped build the B-21

@@tonedcorster7631 Yeah there’s just so much to these aircraft. To have the capacity to manufacture every single component on top of the actual assembly of aircraft, you’d need needs millions of square feet of shop space. Almost all of the precision machining operations of each part are done by suppliers. Like 99%. I currently work for a major aerospace company and that’s how it’s done there.

You have to think about support as much as capability in order to have an effective weapons system. Certainly the Air Force and the U.S. military in general must realize that the Achilles heel is our support system. Currently all of our B-2 bombers are stationed at a base with only 1 runway, which at the present time is closed due to a disabled B-2 on the runway. When poor decisions like this are made, it's only a matter of time before our enemies will go for the weakest link to remove that asset from the force. The single runway is only 1 example. When your aircraft or tanks require highly technical support and parts, only 1 or a few suppliers can support you, and only a few items or places need to be damaged, or hacked, to remove that weapons system from the game. The real question is why do we do this? Do the people making these decisions have our best interests in mind?

And in that same time frame, the US has spent $30+ trillion on Medicare, Medicaid, social security and TONS of anti poverty programs. Y’all get on here and just speak out your ass without having any knowledge of US gov budgets at all.

@@hamborger8546 nobody’s healthcare is free even in countries with universal care. Those doctors are not working for free, those medicines aren’t donated. All of that costs money, it’s just paid via taxes. My healthcare is paid via my insurance. Like do you guys honestly not understand what health insurance is? 😂😂

@@hamborger8546 also, all of those listed programs are literally socialized healthcare programs that are covered by the government. The US government is literally the largest health insurer in the US and covers more than 120 million people. Your ignorance is embarrassing. Speak on topics you actually understand to avoid that embarrassment.

@@FlyByWire1No we do, that’s what makes it so much funnier, y’all pay more to use private insurance then you would under a socialized healthcare system.
I mean socialized healthcare systems are quite literally the same as insurance, you pay into a pot along with everyone else, and get to use the money from that pot if you need medical care, only difference is you’ve added a bunch of middle men in the form of insurance companies to really take ya for a ride lmao.
