Thanks for the video. As a Hakka I am always amazed at the numerous variations of spoken Hakka. My ancestors were from Baoan, Guangdong. My grandpa then followed his uncle to British North Borneo in 1914. I am of the 黎 family.

Thank you for sharing this well researched video! My grandfather’s ancestral home is in a small village near Zhencheng, Guangdong. I was blessed to have visited my grandpa’s village four years ago during Zhongyang Jie in the midst of Covid in Oct 2020. Your video is very information for those of us who were so-called “English-educated” before Malaya got her independence from the British. Blessings to everyone watching this video. 🤲🙏

Hakka came from southern Jiangxi. I am a Singaporean and my parents came from northern Jiangxi, my mother tongue is close to the Yang Tze dialects such as Hunan, Hubei & Sezhuan. Although I cannot speak Hakka I can understand most Hakka language. My mother tongue is close to Hakka.

My ancestors are Hakka, and my great grandfather eventually settled in Kuching, Sarawak, after his father died in the ill fated French attempt to cut a canal in Panama.

Why don't we say, "We are all Chinese". Due to the lack of transportation to mix in the old days, each small area developed its own habits, food, etc. That made us all "different".
