Fun fact about crossbows: They have the same mechanic as the guns, in that, if you shoot an enemy and interrupt their attack, it can open them up to a riposte, like a parry.
Have they buffed bows and crossbows? Or are guns still objectively superior? I'm looking into buying the gane and playing a ranged character.

Another fun fact:, don’t know if this applies to guns, but with crossbows and weapon buff you use will actually buff the off hand weapon too. And yes, it does increase the dmg.

At the moment, it's the best thing we have. One day, I'd love to make a lore series for S&S, similar to Vaatividya's "Prepare to Cry" series.

@@misafan4u you are correct! Cyberphile did a lore walkthrough of the game, which is super helpful for anyone playing along.
If I were ever to make my own, it would be focused around one particular point of the lore each video ("The Sodden Knight", "Askaria and the Inquisition", etc.). I've always found let's plays to be hard to watch start-to-finish, due to the time commitment.
Has anyone suggested a Castlevania "Whip Only" runs? It isn't anything too wild but it really makes the game felt more like a Castlevania game
Ive received a few variations of the challenge, mainly "bloodborne swordwhip/gun" runs. But I can definitely give it a try!

Crossbows aren't all that much slower than bows and can be dual-wielded with another weapon for flexibility.
You can even jump every time you shoot your crossbow mid-air to skip the reload animation.
You can also combo a crossbow with a melee into a backstep.

I fell in love with the Crossbows immediately when I first played. They've made the vast majority of the game insanely easy for me. Lots of bosses can be killed relatively easily with them.
I lOVE IT! I love it, I love it, I love it. I always thougth that these kind of challenge-guide-videos (like ymfah in Souls) and like Yours are just for fun, not actual guides but crush my ears and call ma an elf if i won't try this build myself. In my second playthrough i tried to figure out and use effectivly bows but gave up due to insufficient knowledge of the game. Now this is something i wanted! Thank you!

Love the video as always! One suggestion (and it's the tiniest of nitpicks!) would be to import your character images into photoshop and use the defringe tool to remove the white anti-aliasing artifacts, it'd make it look way more clean!
If you want any more help with the art stuff for the channel hit me up and I'd be happy to help, I can't draw worth a turd but I can design stuff/beat adobe products over the head until they give me what I want.

@@TheBacklogs I'm not sure? I've never used Gimp so I couldn't tell you. It's a very quick process in photoshop, I wouldn't mind doing it for you if you have a way to get the files to me?

You could probably use incantations to buff your weapons, eliminating the need for item buffs, freeing up some money and also giving you a damage buff that scales with magic. Though I would understand if that goes against the restrictions.

Actually, ranged combat *is* the most gentlemanly form of combat - in Japan. Samurai were expected to be master Archers and your skill with the bow had a significant social impact.

I mean I'm not exactly some hardcore salt and sanctuary player as I've only played it a couple times but on my first 2 runs I thought bows were almost a cheap way to win. I guess I just failed to find the correct weapons or builds.
I always liked bows. Accesible fire and poison, and eases salt farming with Mal's Floating Castle's Grave Walker, and the Tree of Men's first phase

After watching this and the poison only run, I made a poison crossbow run and... uh... why does everybody think this game is hard?

@@TheBacklogs also beat tree of men using only wraith fangs it took me 120 fangs plus I used a few on the assassin dude just before the fight. Can be done in less if your aim is good. I was using boatman armour just for the look I wanted. Took me a few tries but it was a lot of fun. Ng+ 👍🏼

Not sure if it applies to controllers but with Mouse and keyboard the crossbow has bugged aiming.
Too bad mouse aiming with crossbow is buggy. Wherever you aim the character shoots straight anyway. Unless you're in a middle of a jump, then it works as intended.
Yeah, crossbows are a little goofed. I feel like they're best suited to being used for their backhop combo, as they have the farthest backhop of any of the offhand weapons.
