I was there when he was still a Salt & Sanctuary speedrunner and now he's at half a millions subs it's crazy.
"Magic focus costs scale with your equip load, as do prayers in the opposite direction" wasn't something I expected to learn today but it's good to know, and I finally feel like I understand a good reason for why the Magic branches of the skill tree are close to the Dex/ Light branches.
Prayers being next to the Str/ Heavy branch and even tying into them made sense purely because of Paladin and how holy magic wielding combatants generally tend to be equipped with weapons like maces and more heavily armoured than their arcane magic counterparts in a lot of games/ stories of this type of setting, but I hadn't realised there were actual mechanics at play there.
I think the reason is because "stamina" in the game is called willpower, your mental measurement of not giving up and intellect. Thus imagine casting some complex spell, will it be better for you to do it in normal clothes OR onyx set sweating while barely seeing anything? With prayers you are more like doing ritual than anything.
@@ExtremeMan10 I have seen games/TTRPG show that as well... for example being unable to cast in armor your aren't proficient (aka used to/trained) in, having a chance for spells to fail to cast due to the armor, or lessened effects of those spells... though honestly, kinda like the S&S approach, lot less *forced* and more encouraged.

I love how you are doing these videos, really professional work. Keep this up! Great that you have found this niche, becuase S&S was never popular but IMO it has just as much potencial as any Souls game for challenges like this. If you are looking for more ideas, the only one i always wondered about "can you beat S&S only with Bow/Crossbow?"
I'm just surprised no one else has done anything with it, to be honest. It's a great game with great build variety, and these challenges give me a reason to keep playing haha

I mean, I would probably allow yourself to use whatever you wanted to grind up to that initial Wildfire purchase, but outside of that it's a pretty smooth ride.

Just starting this game, trying to get past wyrm on any character without any added challenges is rage inducing. You have crazy skills.
Hes not so bad once you know his patterns or make a fire resistant build. Blacksmith set, pheonix rondache and the warhammer are lifesavers if you cant dodge him!
@@TheBacklogs I dropped the game twice, getting stuck at the same time on the tree of man and the third lamb. I recently returned to my save and decided to continue playing... After I was murdered by this freaking lamb few more times, I complitely changed my tactics. Completely naked and with Claymore IV, I passed this beast on my first try using this idea. (Before I used some light armor, raider's target, and raider's axe)

@@TheBacklogs Hahaha)) Actually, I just wanted to improve the rolls. It seems to me that the bosses before the third lamb were not so demanding on attentiveness and memorization of attacks. And... Many people say that the tree of man is a compulsory boss, but it seems to me that it is absolutely optional. Is not it so?
Its optional if you can power your way through the Dome. Most players fight the Tree though, since the bosses in the Dome are pretty difficult

That requested run appears to be a favorite - it's definitely been bumped to (almost) next on the list! Right after I destroy my sanity with the Pacifist Run.

At 10:16 the transition from extremely happy and excited back to deadpan is so goddamn funny I don't even know if it was on purpose or not.
In my first run, I went entirely cheap by the end: Dark Swarm, a Magic scaling weapon, and Saper Charm.
Insane damage, and infinite MP because Charm and weapon effects apply to incantations, so DS's multiple hits triggered the Focus Leech enough to refund the casting cost.
You can even use a HP leech weapon/charm to regen health while going through areas. (Swords 2 gets you access to the Shrouded Bulwark+Vicious Charm And the Black Widow+Saper charm, for MP regen either way, and HP regen or Magic scaling damage bonus as needed.)
My first run was a pessclaw dagger and a crossbow….
I made things so much harder on myself 😅. I never even used the poison magic or buffs to help out my poison dmg cuz I thought it worked like DS and poison didn’t do anything after poisoning the enemy 🤦♂️
Redoing that build now in prep for the sequel… with magic and gun!
I can't believe someone is doing these challenges. I recently beat the game and I've been wanting to see more of it like this.
You're the first youtuber I find who's stayed the same since the very beginning. You poured more effort into a channel with 50 subs than most people do for 5'000.
Just 2 shorts years and you have grown so much. Quality is better, but you are the same Lemon. Same charm. I'm very impressed with the growth!

On the pc version you can get the blood rite or whatever the item name was when you die trying to destroy a Sanctuary by just leaving the game, which puts you out of the Sanct. Thats how i can join the order of the betrayer on Hardcore mode.
This video is the equivalent of finding lost footage of jerma making a 12 subs special while casually deadlifting 400 lbs in his room

Yeah, I was having a real issue with the audio this time around - I actually had to re-upload the entire video due to my recording equipment freaking out and adding all sorts of crackle. I'll (hopefully) be playing around with some new software for the next video, so I'll be sure to add a couple filters to the audio next time around. Thanks for the tip!

don't know if anyone will look at this on a 3 year old video but the "red guillotine" might be the best weapon for this kind of run life steal from weapons apply to incantations and since all of them hit multiple times each incantation becomes a minor healing spell+ red guillotine has equal slice and blunt damage adding up to pretty high damage life stealing darm swarm (also light enough to not mess with spell cost too much)

If you let he queen of smiles hit you with her circle of swords projectile attack right before she does the windmill with her swords at you the windmill attack wont be able to do knockback or damage.

Fair question! Using too much of one element will start to injure you, so you have to balance between lightning and fire spells. Definitely helps keep magic from being overtly OP... sort of.
