It's time for another Classic-style #SonicTheHedghog Adventure in #SonicSuperstars! I found the game to be woefully average when I first played it. Not bad at all, but nothing that really wowed me. After a few playthroughs, my opinion hasn't changed, wow-factor wise. But I found myself enjoying it a lot more when I accepted it for what it was rather than what I think most of us wanted it to be. It's not a super innovative Sonic game, and that's okay.

Actually, each character in sonic superstars kind of has a different opening cutscene, and when starting the game on a new file as Knuckles, it's implied that the Master Emerald basically told him to go follow Sonic & Tails, which is what prompted him to join everyone in the first place, and if you beat Eggman as Knuckles, it shows him being dropped off back on Angel Island.

But can we actually talk about the Black Dragon? What's its deal? In the beginning, Eggman tells Fang to go hunt for it, we never hear it mentioned again besides the mural in Golden Capital Act Knuckles and then it just...appears in the Last Story. No one summons it, there was never a prophecy stating that it would come. It just kind of does. And there seems to be a connection with Trip as well. They're both dragons and she seems to have the vessel needed to seal it away....a vessel that comes out of literally nowhere. Is this a relative of some sorts? A friend gone rogue? Anything as to why Trip has what the heroes need to seal it away? This has to be the worst implentation of an acient monster final boss in a mainline Sonic game due to just how much goes unexplained. The Time Eater had a better origin and its origin is "Eggman found it in a primordial state after Colours".
The Storyline for this Game kinda Relies on people *Watching the Tie-In Cartoon on their Official CZcams Channel,* which is _a Mistake of its own,_ to Understand how *the Black Dragon* fits into things - _and it's quite Vague even then!_
From what I gathered, *Trip's People* - *_the SunGazer Lizard Clan_* - had an innate Bond with the *Chaos Emeralds* beyond that of other Inhabitants, likely granted when *assigned to Protect their Island and the Prophecies and Chaos Emeralds on it.* It was only a matter of Time however, before one of their Tribe was driven Mad with ambitions of Power, and _tried to use the Emeralds to Conquer their People!_ Seven Warriors of their Clan bravely stood up to *the Transformed Black Dragon Tyrant,* and used their Abilities to Extract the Chaos Emeralds, then Seal it away inside *_the Black EggStone (My Name, to give Dr Eggman a reason to Search for it in the First Place!)..._*
...As with all Sealing Rituals, _those Contained are likely to Escape at some point,_ so after Portaining the Timing from their Oracles, they *_Inscripted a new Prophecy to Warn of the BlackEggStone's Danger and assigned a Giant Serpent to Guard it against those who would seek to abuse its Power..._*
The Cartoon is one of those Silent Picture-type deals, so *we only have the Visuals to determine things from* - but with the Game out and Extra Context added, _I think we have the General Backstory figured out!_
@@lianaverwood9810 Okay, I just watched Trio of Trouble and that actually makes a lot of sense. It's just kind of hard to verify anything with this vague mural featuring the sungazers that's only shown in this external source of media and the tiny one in Golden Capital. It also still doesn't explain the Black Dragon's escape from being sealed or where the seal came from so I guess we just have to infer that the Black Egg Stone was passed down to Trip. Wait a minute. Last of their kid? Ancient artifact entrusted to them? If the inference is true, Trip is just Knuckles again.

And my Theory on why the Black Dragon Escaped is that Dr Eggman used the Powers of the Black EggStone for his Time Manipulation Device - when it was destroyed, the Dragon broke free from the now-weakened Seal...
@@lianaverwood9810 That would be really cool. I just wished there was something in the game to support it. I would also just like SOMETHING to explain the Black Dragon's reawakening, like maybe the stone can only hold in a creature for 1000 years or a cutscene of Eggman finding the stone in a place Trip hid it and finding a way to unseal it only for him to not be able to control it. This game tells what little of a story it already has so poorly.
@@castform7 Seals don't generally last forever so I would make the assumption that the Black Dragon was basically weakening it constantly until it could no longer hold it.

8:58 This machine can only rewind a few minutes and possibly only the Egg Fortress itself. The Time Eater could do all of history (including stuff that technically never happened) and was Modern Eggman’s plan.
In a way, we could even implied that when Classic Eggman succed at going back to his time, the events of Generations inspired him to create a more compacted time machine.
I can only theorise, but the only way Eggman was likely able to create this Time-Manipulating Device was by drawing Power from the Black Dragon's Sealing Stone - that I chose to call 'The Black EggStone', something that'd lead Dr Eggman to Search for it - and the Advanced Chaos Powers of the Dragon within!
That's the only way I can think of to Tie the Eggman Plot into that of the Black Dragon Sub-Plot that SEGA chose to throw in there...
@@lianaverwood9810 Black Dragon was a plan back in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but was dumped for Eggman as Final Boss. SEGA finally put "Black Dragon" in use by this game.

That whole thing with Ian Flynn saying it wasn't The End almost makes me think "this is like if Shinya Kumazaki actively debunked popular Kirby theories", because "visual stuff that looks like something seen before in the series, implying a connection" feels very much Kirby-like.

another sin i wished he mentioned is that, the master emerald shrine became what it looks like in sa1... i mean its a cute ref and a good connection on how the next game is supposed to be adventure, but still i wished he went on a funny rant and go "WHY TF WOULD U MOVE THE EMERALD FROM HIDDEN PALACE ZONE TO THE SURFACE?!?!?!?!?!?"

My favorite zone was Egg Fortress. The aesthetics have been done before, but playing the same level with everything including enemy and platform movement in reverse was really cool.
Seconded, which make that stage a little unique.
It's sometimes annoying with those fish enemies

Sega: STILL insisting Sonic's friends be just "EaSy mOdEs" instead of legitimate alternatives. Even in a game who's entire MARKETING revolves around Sonic teaming up with his friends.
There's hardly anyone talking about the ending segment, but whatever you decide to do going forwards, I know I'm looking forwards to it.
The one negative I have to say about this, Fang’s boss fight in Trip’s Story, for one reason alone: *Instant-Kill Attacks.*

The one thing I have mixed feelings towards is the soundtrack. Some tracks I feel like are some sort of mix of sonic 4 type music whiles others feel orginal
One thing that kinda does weird me out though is that Trips a dragon in her super form just because the Black Dragon exists, but why? She looks slightly like a ankylosaurus in a way so...why not the armadillo dino instead?

I... Don't tend to make comments a lot, cuz' I don't tend to have a lot to say, but the outro bit felt very deep and introspective. Felt like it warranted a comment.
When a series puts you on the map, and it's what garners the most attention, it can quickly become the main thing you're known for. Seeing the viewer counts on most of your videos, and comparing it to the viewer count that this series usually gets, it's pretty clear you're widely known as 'the Everything Wrong With guy'. Heck, when I first saw this channel I thought you were just 'the Everything Wrong With guy'! But your videos are interesting, and that game project you got goin'? It's some of the most incredible stuff I've seen! It's got passion, it's got talent, and boy is it awesome! I might just be a flat broke bum living in some middle o' nowhere backwater town, but I can still tell you this: I'm absolutely on-board with some more diverse stuff! I know it's just a comment, just a single like, and merely a single view, but I bet there's plenty of folks out there who think the same! It might not reach the same heights as Everything Wrong With, but if you like doing it, I'll probably like watching it. The way you write videos is just swag like that. So whether it's just a skit, or a sign of something yet to come, I'm always ready to watch it! Cuz' your videos rock!

Regarding the Black Dragon. If you manage not to get hit for one minute, you automatically get amy and trip tossing ring boxes at you. Not sure why the game doesn't tell you this.

Knuckles sensed that something was wrong, and saw Sonic and Tails flying off to these zones. Judging by the fact that he locates all the chaos emeralds, we can assume that’s what he’s after. Now that the day is saved, he went back to Angel Island.
(Although I will say, I have no idea why his present during the final boss.)
This is why I rarely play as Sonic unironically. And you have to trigger Knuckles' and Amy's starting cutscenes, you have to start a new file first selecting Amy or Knuckles. I think the Final boss cutscenes can be accessed with one save file, though.

I feel like the 41st sin kinda confirms that superstars takes place in the classic demension where it's before Mania, I say classic demension, (despite what SEGA said) because this point could be explained by saying that when modern Eggman told Classic about his past failures, he tried to do what modern did but earlier where Sonic was still more naive & less skillful, on top of that, this could also explain the end being there since it is an alternate timeline where maybe someone caused it to escape from cyberspace earlier, & I say before Mania because of the ending cutscene in Origins, since even Tyson Hesse said that it was meant to tie in with Superstars.
that's the thing allegedly during forces and mania they were intending to do the alternate dimension route, however they recently backed away from it to streamline the games
In sonic forces you actually have to time the target reticles. most noticeably, in the stage where modern sonic escapes the death egg.

As an artist, I resonate with that sentiment. Trying something new is risky but sometimes the change you make will come out even better than keep doing the same thing. I may not comment a lot but you do got me motivated and interested on your future projects.

And How to train your dragon
Hey Chari! During my play-through of the game i came across a glitch that is very very easy to replicate. In Bridge Island Act 1 there’s a speed shoes box that you can pick up. Once you do that, transform into super sonic or (whatever character you’re using) and finish the rest of the stage. If you speed through the chase at the end fast enough the game sort of bugs out and can’t keep up on whether you still have the speed shoes activated or not. This will cause all the main music for the next couple of stages (until the next mini boss fight) to speed up as if you were still using the speed shoes item. It’s super freaky but also funny to hear the sped up version of the game music despite running at base speed.

I always love hearing about little bugs and oversights like this because it's so easy to miss things like that in game dev due to how specific the scenarios are. They're so easy to replicate and probably easy to fix, but also probably really easy to not even consider.
On the wisp thing for the purple moon, it may actually be connected to the wisps. Firstly, there's the one planetoid with torches that appears purplish when the torches are extinguished in the cutscene where the mind control cannon goes haywire due to the arm of either Big Boy or Globotron (I refer to it as Globotron due to the DS version being my preferred version) being stuck in it, and then the moon gets hit by a mind control beam turning it purple. The second one would be time travel shennanigins but the first one could be plausible

These endslates have me invested. I might not truly understand but I get the struggle of wanting to branch out to newer forms of content and break away from the Cinema Sins styled video format that's been made so popular over the years.

The Classic versions of the characters (except for Tails) all have eyelids the same color as their muzzle! That's always been the case, and changed to be the color of their fur in Sonic Adventure DX.

I find it ironic that you found Golden Capital the most original since I've heard that it was a scrapped zone idea from the first Sonic game.

The level itself wasn't a scrapped idea from the first game, just those loops with the sun design on it

15:09 Honestly, before I was made aware of its name, I thought that, due to its many similarities with Trip's Dragon Form, that the creature's name was gonna be Dark Sungazer, but nope, Black Dragon. A fine name by itself, but kinda freaking generic. And for a creature that does look kinda cool, too!
To answer Charii’s question about Eggman making a Time Machine, and thus making the use of the Time Eater useless:
Are you considering the possibility that Superstars takes place AFTER the time where Classic Sonic and Classic Eggman were pulled into the future for the events of that game? If it happens afterwords, then Classic Eggman could have used the Time Eater he encountered in the future as a basis for the Time Machine.
Don’t feel like EWW is the only reason people watch, Charriii. Speaking for myself, I love just about everything you do on here. Heck, one of my favorite videos of yours is the one of you and Nathaniel talking about the Sonic Movie 2. It’s your channel man, do what you want. We’ll watch, because we like *you*.

The sweaters change a bunch. Green is supposed to be the one sitting but swaps with red at least 3 different times

I love how they made super sonic amazing in Sonic Frontiers only to make the form weak as piss in Superstars, super sonic goes from dusting the Titans and The End to dying to a simple laser
to be fair, sonic in frontiers is both older, and more experienced, than classic sonic

@@blazefa519 see, with frontiers we can infer, or maybe even confirm that supersonic isn't completely invincible. knuckles knocked sonic out of super form, eggman had neutralized the emeralds to stop it, and now the lazers make me think supersonic, while on guard, is more RESISTANT to damage, but not completely invincible
If I had a nickel for everytime there was a 2D Sonic game featuring 4 playable characters and a secret playable character, a final Story segment, Sonic with a homing attack, Tails with a tail attack, Knuckles with a punch attack, Amy who can crawl into a ball at will and a fifth character (who make their first appearance) that is shockingly broken when you know what they're capable of I've had two nickels

About the endslate, I have been watching your content for years now, and over time I’ve really come to appreciate it. Not just the Everything Wrong With series, just any video where you are yourself, where you are brave enough to express your thoughts, it is entertaining but also very intelligent or insightful to hear. I love this channel not purely because of the videos, but because of the amazing and inspiring person making those videos. My only real gripe is really how long the bosses take, I get why it is so each boss can be unique and have different phases without ending too quickly but they drag for so long imo (At least for Single Player, for Multiplayer that's a different story)

I'd like to point out that when I played this game, it tells you to press the bumpers to deactivate the Chaos powers but it does not work, you can't deactivate once you use them.
Every time I see the ending scene for what you're trying to do it hits a cord with me and I can't help but think "I really hope that what you have planned takes off" I'm hoping you can find your footing good content creator ❤

Actually, it does show that Knuckles heads back to Angel Island to go back to guarding the master emerald if you beat the final boss with knuckles.

That’s because Knuckles and Tails has secret cutscenes you get after you beat the final boss as just one of them.
Another thing to note about the final boss: The Black Dragon has a mostly purple and black color scheme with red accents via glow when it activates its powers… just like a certain reality altering gemstone from two out of the last three games Classic Sonic appeared in. Makes me wonder if the Phantom Ruby has something to do with the Black Dragon and its powers and if this game and Forces are setting up a story arc centered around uncovering the reason behind the Ruby’s existence. After all, we don’t know where the Ruby went after Forces, just that there was no actual sign it was destroyed, and according to the Encyclo-Speed-ia, the Phantom Ruby absorbed Infinite into itself- not killed or destroyed him, ABSORBED him, implying that he’s still alive, just trapped.

Every single "Chaos Emerald can't do that!" sin is incorrect. Chaos Emeralds are suppose to be mysterious, and one of the reasons quite possibly is that no one knows Every Single One of their powers, thus they COULD have more abilities added.

At 3:29 You can also do the same thing but with, Tails. for some old reason they still have the top of his tails while flying count as hiting, Robotnik (or Classic Dr. Eggman.)
In regard to Eggman building the device that lets him control time in Egg Fortress, I think this adds credibility to the theory that Mania - and now Superstars - take place in an alternate timeline or dimension.
After Generations, the rest of the classic games play the same. However, at some point, the timeline splits. One strand goes on to the “Adventure” games, Shadow the Hedgehog, etc. while the other leads into Mania and Superstars.
Classic Eggman constructs this time machine in Superstars because he now has knowledge based on his experience with the Time Eater in Generations. If that makes sense.
