I am a Porto fan but this guy was amazing, i grew up watching him in the Portugal national team and he was definitely my favorite. Most people loved Figo but Rui costa had more to his game, i feel he controlled the game more especially the midfield, got everyone playing and for me my best ever Portuguese player.

it's a shame we can't see a player like this in football these days. Football is too fast and full of running machines in the middle of the park thereby reducing the space and time on the ball.
Players like these can excel in any era. Football has been way too robotic and monotonous, Rui Costa would stick out easily in midfield. If a guy like lucas paqueta is getting praised and even wanted by man city, what makes you think an absolute legend like Rui Costa wouldnt be able to succeed? Stop the nonsense.

Yeah, consistent finish to the back of the net requires more than just power. In today’s game the example is Fede Valverde, has good power in his shots but rarely scores because its all power but lacking precision and the right instinct.
