    I like your booklight experiment! Especially for a one man band, like you said if it was on a rolling stand it would be super easy to move around since its all contained to a single stand.

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před 7 měsíci

      I have done them on rolling stands, but wanted to show it on a c stand, which most people have. Check out this video!

    One stand booklight is such a good idea! I run out of stands on every shoot so any way to consolidate is great.

    • @PDMokry

      I plan on doing many variations of this. Saving stands ends up saving time! Thanks for watching!

    I really like this idea! I have experimented with different booklight set ups and am still considering purchasing the Wescott Scrim Jim one but this would definitely be a more cost effective version. Thanks for sharing!

      I have the scrim jim set, bought it used, so at a great value. There are so many ways this can be changed, I'm already working on new ideas, even super budget options!

    Hi Piotr! Been watching your videos for some time now learned alot and love your content. I like how compact this setup is. Afew years ago I struggled with a million stands so its good to see a smaller way to do it. Thanks for what you do. Peace here from Nashville TN.

    Am I crazy or does your interviewer kinda look like Caleb Pike from behind? 😄 Nice setup for your booklight, at the beginning I was also thinking about that hot spot in the middle of the diffusion, but you addressed that later on, so I don't think I would have done anything differently - except for maybe using that awesome studio space a bit more, but I'm guessing that blank wall wasn't _your_ first choice either. 😁

    • @PDMokry

      I thought I was filming in an office, then bam! We were in a white studio. Did not have time to dress things up or the light options.

    Thanks for sharing a good relatively simple book light idea that many, including me, can learn from. I liked and subscribed. I'm new to this as a stills photographer, but can see how big and soft, just out of shot, helps. A lot of kit by my newbie standards, but I'm getting there. Just bought 2 C-stands and a flag kit to go with my 3 x Amaran 200X S lights. I have a lot of smaller stands and some RGB stick lights I used to use in stills. So much to learn - not least with sound. But practice and reflection will help me grow my skills.

    I think without the bounce fill floppy or more away, it would have looked more punchy, more dramatic. Fill side too bright for my taste :)

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před 6 měsíci

      Great input, this was shot as a bright and flat corporate look. I like a little more ratio too.

  • @OrenArieli
    @OrenArieli Před 7 měsíci +1

    Lighting looks good. Booklights almost always flatter the talent. How bad was the echo in that room though? Looks like it would be a nightmare, especially for a shotgun mic.

    Great video💪
    One thing i'd do differently is the plant. I find it too distracting. I'd either
    - leave it out completely
    - put it more out of frame so one still can associate the shadows with the plant but the plant itself isn't as dominant in the frame
    - use a narrower DOF to make the plant smoother
    - use another plant with different leave structure that isn't as 'aggressive'

  • @marinrealestatephotography
    @marinrealestatephotography Před 7 měsíci +1

    Thanks for the helpful video, Piotr. Would it make sense for the blackout ti use a fabric that is white on one side and black on the other so you could increase the size of the bounce in the key?

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thank you for watching! So I already thought about this before this was filmed. I went with the black for an accessible setup. More people would have black material over a white bounce.
      It would be way more effective with ultra bounce or even white material.
      I also have some ideas for a super budget option!

  •  Před 7 měsíci +3

    needs a lil framework love, i mean wheres the L of the room!?

      This was the direction of the client.

    •  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@PDMokry exactly, the client reaches the expert because he knows what looks best and how to get it done, dont let clients decide the framing!

    • @thepropolys
      @thepropolys Před 6 měsíci

      @ Yeah, definitely needs gigantic shears on the windows, shoot into the L of the room, haze the room, gigantic depth in the shot, a thousand practicals all over the place, 64:1 contrast ratio, fill the shadows with cyan... when the client says it looks too dramatic, just tell him it's supposed to look like a movie!

    Nice little interview set up. Could you explain the decision to go with quarter grid over half grid? Was it an output issue?

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I was using a 600x Pro, so I was worried about output. But ended up at 30%. So I start with 1/4 and then move to a thicker diff. Thanks for watching!

      @JeffGrahamPhotography Před 7 měsíci +1

      I had just purchased a 6x6 Magic Cloth after using 1/2 grid cloth for years. It's like a wall of soft light, and I even tested it with my 60 watt light for grins. The reason I'm bring this up is that I'm wondering with a big light source that's rather thick (about 2 stops loss), could you get the same result with less work of putting up a book light. Don't mind me, I'm just spitballing here...:o)
