    Love this. This reinforces something that has been working really well for me this season. I use my 52 slightly (5 deg) open for 85-95, about the same ball position as MSG, aim 5 yard left of pin and ball is closer to the toe at address. Works for me as I hit full 52 deg 105-110. Lining up towards the toe side from 130 yards and in has eliminated hosel donkey shots.

    This might be your best instruction video yet! I have played close to scratch for a long time and these same tips work no matter the club. I see players hitting shots in the back of their stance all the time and it not only reduces their margin of error but also has a tendency to cause their shoulders to aim right. Even teeing a 3/4 wedge shot up is good practice on the range to hit shots level. Thanks for your videos!

  • @Damonkeyspanda

    I hear ya. My swing with my 60, unfortunately, requires me to have the ball back a bit, but I hear what you’re saying. I guess I can try to practice moving it forward and see if I can get consistency that way, too, and maybe some different looking shots. Love the videos, man.

    Hi Matt 1st time watching your Video👍, really enjoyed your chat & info😁, short game is my strength it’s so nice to see a Player hitting control wedges😁, & giving tips to help improve control with setup, it’s so tempting to move the ball back in your stance when playing into the wind or hitting from a poor lie, it’s great to hear you pointing out the pitfalls of doing this👍, 95% of the time I will go to the stronger lofted Wedge & hit a 3/4 or 90% shot, it’s so unusual to hear a Player recommend this👍,Thanks Dickey 9hcp 76year senior golfer UK.

    Your last tip was the best. never take a max distance shot with a wedge and if you shorten your swing, shorten your stance. Would that part be true for all clubs? For example, if I am between a 7 and 8 iron and go with an easy 7 iron, should I shorten my stance?

  • @TitleWaive1

    You hit my trouble spot. My 50 was my 100 yard club, but now I struggle to get 80 yards with it. I have huge gap now with my PW going 100-110, and 9 goes 110-130. I moved ball forward, but seemed to lose yardage doing that. I don't know what I'm doing wrong if it's slower swing, or shorter swing, or just the club isn't fit properly for me.

    You talk about 1/2 and 3/4 swing but does that mean you rotate you club back that much less or do you hit the ball with that much less power with the arc of the swing remaining the same as if it were a "full" swing? I never understood these references.

    • @SimonHoward-fb6tr
      @SimonHoward-fb6tr Před 6 měsíci +1

      When you play a half swing shot, taking the club back halfway, you can only generate half the clubhead speed on the down swing relative to clubhead speed on a full swing. Therefore the ball should only travel half the distance for that particular club. Hope that helps.

  • @Skye_the_toller
    @Skye_the_toller Před 7 měsíci

    If you have a good distance… it will also promote a higher ball flight… and loosing distance… ball position is very sensitive and needs some experimentation… I tried it… and I had to position my ball less in front than what you are showing…

    The first thing to do is not take advice from someone hitting into a piece of canvas. The second thing is to avoid people telling you what NOT to do. Go play, have fun, you'll get better on your own. Has anyone actually taught you how to hammer a nail? No, you just did it. You probably bent a few nails and maybe even bashed a finger, but you figured it out by yourself. Golf is the same.

  • @golfyourselftolife

    Never heard so much subjective bollocks in my life. Talk about physics and biomechanics. e.g everybody’s ball position is different depending on where there sternum is relative to the ball at impact. Two fingers forward ? Bullshit. It depends on how they turn their upper body. Even the great Seve Ballesteros said his ball position changed every day depending on how his body moved.
    Lose the « I do this » and start promoting « the great players do this because….. »
