T-Mike thank you very much for all your kind information. My boat is doing exactly what you were saying, it just keeps on running when stopped and I had to pull out the choke fully to kill the engine, so T-Mike a new kill switch is needed. "Brilliant Video".
Great info T mike, I just restored a 71 six horse Evinrude fisherman. Runs and looks great but no kill switch!! I’m going to install the lanyard one. I’ve got to newer outboards with those kill switches and think they are a good safety thing!
I’ve been trying to figure out a way to mount one on a fd-11, the lower pan has zero room. And the later model mounts won’t fit.. So, was thinking of just making a little control box where my remote start switch will be and mount the box to side of the boat next to where I sit.
In your magneto the same terminal that the lead from the condenser is connected to. The kill switch when pressed (or lanyard removed) basically shorts the points closed all the time. This, as Mike explained, prevents spark pulse going to the spark plugs.

I believe the Kill switches are normally Closed, correct? 2 - Why not wire a Normally Open Kill switch into the ignition? A lot less wiring that needs to be done as you can put it directly into the ignition wire line at the front where the key/ignition is.

Mike My 1971 9.5 has the kill switch already. It has about an inch of threads to protrude through the lower cowl. The switch with lanyard in your video looks to have very short length of threads. Do you know where I can get a longer threaded lanyard style kill switch?
Great video Mike. Want to add to a Johnson 1956 15hp (like the 1957 18hp). Have you installed one on the 1957-1959 18’s? Where did you install the kill switch?
Hey t mike, I got a 75 evinrude 25. Bought a updated killswitch and started to replace then realized my old switch only had 2 wires this new one has 4. 2 labeled m 2 labeled I but no wiring diagram what do I need to hook up to these 4 posts?
I thought I watched a video on the repair of the tiller handle for a 56 evinrude did you do one or am I going crazy because I can't find it anywhere by any one

I have seen an official Johnson OMC "service manual" with 10E76 model# listed on cover which I assume is accurate enough? Unfortunately on Ebay they want $99. Wow. I have to do better than that. Do I need an official Johnson OMC "service manual" to get thorough enough pics and instructions for a DIY 1st timer like me or will a Seloc generic in that category work? Also, do you recommend any ONLINE outboard manual services that might ? provide a decent manual (I don't think some specify what the source/type of book one is purchasing and seen some bad reviews on some of them) that would be thorough enough or and worth the cost . Appreciate your thoughts.

It’s also called a man overboard switch real handy if you fall out of the boat and it revs up and leaves you behind great videos 👍🏻

Kill switches are normally open. When activated they close and apply a ground You could use a standard open switch.
