- Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second-largest city after Kyiv, currently home to around 1.3 million people. Heavily damaged but never captured during the first days of Moscow’s full-scale invasion, the city and surrounding oblast are now once again the focus of Russian attacks. Earlier this month, the Kyiv Independent spent 48 hours in the city to see how its people manage to work, relax, and survive in Ukraine’s most-bombed major city.

Congratulations to the Kyiv Independent team for this report - even if the reporter mispronounced the city name a wee bit. It still tries to tell the story of a city under the threat of continuous lethal danger and the misery of those whose homes are destroyed and lives shattered. Can we in 'safe' western Europe or the United States, Canada or Japan really imagine what that is like? To have a missile hit your humble home, out of the blue? And all because one man and his country think they should control these people?
Remember the lessons of 1938 and 39. Hitler said he would have no further territorial claims at the 1938 Munich conference if he was allowed to take the Sudetenlands.
Yeah, right: tell that to the Czechs in March 1939, or the Poles in September of the same year.

Because they would have been sitting ducks for the Russians, not being allowed themselves to shoot into Russian territory. They built defence lines as close to the border as they could.

Fortunately, the other countries helping Ukraine aren't as stupid and leave it up to the Ukrainian military as to what they will target and with what weapons.

If you remember, couple of days ago, the whole section of the house was destroyed. 30 people died. These bombs fly from Kharkiv direction. When you are bringing information to people, you should bring the objective one
