I've never really understood the existential crisis thing. Whether we're 'real' or not, or our environment is or isn't, we're still here having to live our lives until we die. Would it be cool to know the truths and secrets of life, existence, and the universe? Sure. Does it change the fact that I have to deal with my perceived reality for the rest of my life? Nope. Not one tiny bit. For me, it doesn't matter if we're dreams, simulations, or real. It doesn't matter if there's only our universe or multiverses. We're stuck doing this thing in this place for however much time we have whether we like it or not, and we need to make the best of it.
100% agree… So many people believe that if we ourselves were to be just a simulation running in a computer within a higher universe from ours, that makes everything that we know of our universe, our world, our lives, our experiences, our feelings, and everything that makes us ourselves as we are now, all of it will be reduced to nothing… When reality itself is indeterminate as that higher universe may also be just a simulation and we ourselves may be able to make simulations of a universe if our technology advances enough… Everything that exists outside of our universe, whether it be one that is simply emulating ours, are just as likely to be a simulation as we are. No such universe can be surely "the real universe" and getting so hung up in trying to define our universe as that or not is redundant… The fact of the matter is our lives are all anchored to one thing alone, and it is our own experiences… The value of our existence relies on what we feel and believe, as to each of our own, that is as far as it will ever matter…
This whole thing reminds me of the Vex from Destiny where a Vex construct simulated a group of researchers perfectly over 200 times simultaneously and the researchers were trying to figure out if they were also in a simulation. They were able to observe the simulated copies of themselves and they were like, "Well I think therefore I am so i must be real and not simulated" and all of the other simulated copies all said the same phrase at the same time
Thank you, Wade, for that edifying insight into a beloved childhood memory as the caterpie can't be shooting its load all over Misty without permission and there are no consequences. Where are the consent and the multiple notaries for verification of the consummation event? If he's not careful, the cater-police will soon be at his door.
24:17 bruh 100% mark i was just about to say programmer or god its all the same thing. An guess what our programmer reality is also in a simulation as well and so on. Ive been struggling so much with this for so long but the one thing ive taking from this realization is that life is ours to make what we will of this respawn. Steer you own narrative
I’m usually in my bfs account my names Sara and I wanted to say thank you guys for doing this topic to be honest I’ve been TERRIFIED of the concept. and when I herd the topic for today my heart dropped but I was like “I trust them let me hear them out” and I think it was a good decision. Thank you :) ❤
No reason to fear because weve always been an always will be in this simulation. You were here before you knew this fact an it changes nothing now that you know. You just are!!! Only you can steer your own narrative live life the way you want to you are the main character of your story make it one worth having
You do know this isn't them. it's a individual that when out of there way so WE THE PEOPLE don't have to pay for Spotify. I think it I Spotify that they are on. But on the spot this is free. But yes a very interesting conversation/concept.
30:18 the simulation doesn't need an outside observer. Perspective means that the way we see the world, could literally just be how we are programed to comprehend the data we interact with. If, this is a simulation, it changes very very little. It could mean at some point we could alter reality, which would be dangerous and stupid as fuck, but until then, when you die, you are still dead and gone. It doesn't make life meaningless either, it would actually GIVE life purpose for us. What we see as dead end jobs and mundane tasks, could theoretically be how we interpret the tasks the simulation is doing to remain operational, and we are each individually able to write our own code, much like A.I, within predetermined parameters. So things like, going for a walk, or quitting a job etc, are exactly those things to us, but to the program itself, could serve to process information, seeking new places as we do, could be the system forcing individual programs(us/people) to experience and interpret things in order to gain a variety of input. For example. I like horror movies. You may not. If we argued over whose right, that would be the system comparing positive and negative feedback on the same subject, without bias, as both individual ppl/programs have experienced the same genre of movies in different ways.
Bobs opening story is mental gymnastics for the simulation argument lmao. That did not come out of anything other than Mandy thinking the names of cities were weird. I’m actually kind of surprised either of them thought that was significant, I guess? lol. Something would have to be far more apparent to convince me.
I kind of disagree with Mark saying that math is just an approximation - it really isn’t though. That’s not really how math works. Math, physics, laws of nature expressed in equations - it’s a concept that exists irregardless of our existence or awareness of it.
You should check out the movie "Lucy" it's a dark action movie with a fun and silly breakdown of quantum mechanics that's not very factual just for fun; and in it is a scene where she concisely explains how math is made up. Enjoy!
now i was thinking, what if the simulation was real.. and we are the main character in this simulation...? what is looks like in real world outside of this simulation..... was the people die in simulation was dead outside in simulation or just there character was got "permanent death" that they didn't comeback... and more.. that what in my mind running rn ahhaha
Religions are just misnomer cults that aren't called cults because they run so much of society. An unprovable belief in god, while not a cult, is a little less threatening, but just as harmful and damaging. And can lead to cults. So yeah, it's the same thing.
I, for one, actually enjoy the philosophical episodes the most.
do you remember any of their other ones? I love when they talk about this type of stuff

I love how Mark's audio is unsyncted and goes fuzzy like slight audio malfunction.

@@TylerDyeSpotify is free with ads, just like CZcams is. I think Spotify even has fewer ads than CZcams does.
21:00 this is a massive misunderstanding of the paper that this information comes from; this does not apply on the macroscopic scale.

Or is the simulation making you think that?
Shut up about your foot Wade, I’m trying to learn.

Do you upload every episode of distractable?
I’m fairly certain they do, considering how often they post and how the ones I’ve seen are current
