Fantastic, Antonia!!!!! Thank you so much for all you do to keep your family and the Universal films alive!!!!! (Lon Chaney Sr’s only ‘talkie’ was the remake of “The Unholy Three”. 😊
Nice poster! There are actually excerpts of the sound version on the 2-disc Kino blu-ray of Phantom. For anyone reading this, you NEED to get that magnificent blu-ray. It has the 1925 and slightly altered 1929 versions, in their two different historically-accurate running speeds (20fps and 24fps), excerpts of the 1930 sound version, multiple scores to chose from, audio commentaries, the whole shebang.
the silent part that had the sync music and the re shoot of Mary philbin going through the mirror door with a slightly changed updoo ,from 1925 version and she does not speak in that scene. The re shoot of the opera singer before the chandelier falls does exist with sound and singing.Universal was bally hooing the same technicolor sequence of the ball masque sequence.
That is a WINDOW CARD that was placed in store windows. (Hence, the term window card.) The vast majority were printed in three colors, usually black, white, with red, green, yellow highlights. Only very few were in full color like Chaney’s SHADOWS and TELL IT TO THE MARINES.
I saw the original 1925 film The Phantom of the Opera when I was 14. The movie is incredible. But my favorite part of the movie is a man with a lantern during the opening scene. I have no idea what he said (which obviously it’s a silent film) but only God knows of what he’s saying. Anyways, that opening scene is chilling and fantastic.
The CZcams channel Cinemassacre did a really great video about this topic. It's called something like "Who is the lantern man in phantom of the opera" or something to that effect. It's well worth checking out!
@@thomasgeorggoenitzer I did see that video before during the pandemic. I thought it was very clever theory about the opening scene. Despite of all that, there’s no evidence of the original quote. Although again, it’s a silent film. 🤷♂️
I would like to see 4K colour adaptations of the Universal Monster line - not to remove the B&W originals but to give more options. A lot of people are against this but, but as long as the films are still available in the original B&W - I don't see the issue with having the option to buy them in colour.
There are two problems with this. Number one is that the sets were lit for black & white photography. You miss the correct composition of the images by colourizing. The second is that most buyers today are only interested in films which are in colour. And at that, it is extremely hard even to interest them in the older colour films. If B&W movies are all colourized, only the colourized versions will sell, & the original formats will stop being offered for sale. Why go to the expense of producing something which won't sell? 🤷🏼♀️
@@h.calvert3165 Well most Universal Monster fans are a bit obsessive and would probably end up buying both sets. I see amateur CZcams videos colourised that look good but I'm no expert on the process, just seems logical offer another option to these films when its the same fans likely rebuying issue after issue. They aren't going to successfully reboot the monster universe it seems unless they make massive changes. What other options do they have after 4k? 8K? I guess what I'm saying is, id like to see it as an option and id personally pay for another disk set to keep along with my originals and I don't think I'm alone?
Thanks for letting me know! I made this video a few years ago (I'd only released it to Patreon / Paid Members until this week) but since then I've gotten a microphone and I think my sound is better 😊
The production of Phantom would make a great documentary in itself.
I love all her videos!! I always learn something new!!!
Awesome poster. Happy New Year 2024 to you.
Eu amei esse filme.
Foi um grande papel de Lon Chaney e o começo dos filmes de monstros da Universal.
❤

Kino is awesome. So grateful for their output! 💿
In 2012 I went to a Halloween Party as The Phantom of the Opera. I didn't look as cool as Lon, (nobody does) but I had fun with that costume.
KEEP UP THE GREAT CONTENT Toni!
Would love to maybe see a longer more in depth video on Phantom 29 at some point in the future
I am a big movie fan. That is a great piece. You always bring the history alive. Your family is blessed to have you to connect us to the passed.
what kind of movies?

Chaney’s voice was NOT dubbed by anyone. His contract forced the studio to note Chaney’s portrayal was silent.

Richmond would be the name of the theatre. Possibly in Richmond, VA. But all window cards had the name of the theatre and play dates.

There are a ton of theories about that guy! I hope one day we solve the mystery.
