- Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is a Universal International film from 1948 features Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, and even a glimpse of the Invisible Man. In Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, the remains of Frankenstein and Dracula are being sent to a house of horrors, and Chick and Wilbur (Abbott and Costello) have to personally deliver them.
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein stars Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, Jr, and Glenn Strange. It has behind the scenes stories for days, including temper tantrums and pie fights.
For some, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein sullies the reputation of the Universal Monsters, but many others consider it their favorite movie. You'll have to watch to find out my opinion!

Funniest line -- and one of the greats of ANY movie:
Chaney, forlorn: "When the moon comes out...I turn into a wolf."
Costello: "You and twenty million other guys..."
That line kills me every time 😂
That got a laugh out of me 😂
That's my favorite line, in the pic, also.
Favorite punchline: "I belong to two unions!" 😂
So glad Bela came back for this one. He honestly played a better Dracula here than in 1931
In this one we actually saw him bite someone
I just watched this again last week and still lol’d at the gag where they block the door and then it opens out instead of in
This is my second favorite, horror comedy, right after 'Arsenic And Old Lace'☺️!!!
I enjoy this movie. My favorite part is seeing the very cool animation of the bat transforming into Dracula. That visual was awesome.
Every time Lou breaks the fourth wall is priceless to me
It’s what no one can capture about the Munsters anymore. There’s a Vaudevillian component to Universal Horror that only the true physical comedians understand…
Interesting trivia: Lon Chaney Jr was stand in for Glenn Strange as the Frankenstein monster in one brief scene.
(Chaney played the monster in The Ghost of Frankenstein.)
One of my favorite films of all-time!
I'll be 50 in October. Fly me out there! Haha! Larry Talbot is the heart of this movie.
It is my favorite abbott and Costello movie .I watch it every Halloween along with the universal movie monster classics. Ivlove your channel Antonia you look like and have all of the qualities of your aunt Carla. I never met her but I always loved seeing her being interviewed on old movie documentaries. She would be so proud of you and uncle Carl and Jr would be proud of you too. Keep up the great work. Maybe someday you can buy universal back and the lemle family can run it right for a change . The way the movie biz is going the whole industry is going down the toilet faster than a greased up turd .
Nicely done Antonia! I’m also looking forward to you doing more of the women of Universal horror ie: Evelyn Ankers and Julia Adams.
Thank you! Me too! 😃
Love this movie! Any lover of the older Universal Monster films shouldn't deride this film. It sits alongside the others just fine, or on its one if you prefer it that way. I'm a huge fan of all the originals and even the sequels. It's okay to have fun with what you love. My favorite parts of the film are whenever Bela Lugosi calls Costello's character "Veelburr." 😄
Great review! Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein wa s my introduction to the Universal Monsters and it is so much fun!
I don't know why but I think my favorite line is in the beginning:
"Oh, boy! I'm floatin' on a cloud of love!'
"Listen, you little blimp! I'll let the air out of you in a minute if you don't give me a hand. Ya understand that?"
"Thank You."
"Boy, is this kid lost!"
This is my second favorite movie ever. Second only to Ghostbusters. But THIS is the greatest horror comedy of all time.
Yes! I totally agree!
Funniest line -- and one of the greats of ANY movie:
Chaney, forlorn: "When the moon comes out...I turn into a wolf."
Costello: "You and twenty million other guys..."
Also, when Chic is talking to Lenore Aubert about her attraction/interest In Lou and says "I don't get it" and Lenore says and " You never will" Nice bit of sexual Fun!
Love Your Channel!

Favorite line:
Abbott: Now, listen. Listen, you know there's no such a person as Dracula, I know there's no such a person as Dracula . . .
Costello: Bud does Dracula know it?
I have a univerSOUL for the Universal Monsters, love all the videos and talks about my favorite monsters
UniverSOUL! I love that!!
You are the Only Girl I ever seen ever Talk about These movies let alone like them , And I am 54 years old too. Mad Cool , Good To Finally See.
She is part of the Laemmle family. She is carrying on the family legacy and doing an awesome job at it. ❤
"Ah, you young people today. Making the most of life. While it lasts..." Dracula talking to Wilbur.
Still one my favourite films but I’ve yet to see it in a cinema with an audience.
If you ever you get the chance
don' t pass it up
The Monster Squad 1987 is a worthy and scary tribute to this and the other Universal Monster team ups in many ways. Even the soundtrack resembles Meet Frankenstein. I hope people check it out as it wasn't a big hit at the movies.
Theres only one Frankenstein for me and that's Boris Karloff.
He'll always be my favorite Frankenstein.
Just watched this movie after work today 🙌🏼
"In a half an hour the moon will rise and I'll turn into a wolf."
"You and twenty million other guys."
Great movie. I grew up watching the Universal monster movies on TV. That's partly how I developed an interest in horror movies. It must be so cool to be a descendant of the family.
Close tie between this one and Bubba Ho-Tep for best Horror Comedy of all time
Perhaps "best horror comedy" might be the original Ghostbusters.
"Carlotta" was my mother's first name.
My perspective on it has shifted a bit, just toward seeing House of Dracula as the "true" finale to the Monsters (in that it actually gives them definitive endings) and ...Meet Frankenstein as a kind of send-off and petrifaction into immortal iconicity. Regardless, ...Meet Frankenstein is one of the top three great horror comedies along with A Comedy of Terrors and Ghostbusters.
Favourite dialogue:
Wilbur Grey : How about the two girls we had last week?
Chick Young : Let’s not talk about…
Wilbur Grey : You got the kick on them.
Chick Young : I’m not kicking!
Wilbur Grey : You got the best looking one.
Chick Young : So what?
Wilbur Grey : Yours had teeth.
Chick Young : Look, Wilbur, yours had teeth too.
Wilbur Grey : Did you see that tooth?
Chick Young : Yes I happened to see it.
Wilbur Grey : Mine had so much bridge work, every time I kissed her I had to pay toll.
Hahaha their banter is so good!!
I always enjoy the information you share with us. A top notch channel.
Favorite line: Bud Abbott, on wondering what the woman sees in Costello, says "Well, I don't get it." The woman replies, "and you never will."
My favorite bit was when Bud and Lou were talking about Lou having 2 dates. Bud asks if he can have 1 of the girls for his date.
Lou: "What about the 2 girls you had last week? You had the better looking ones. Yours had teeth."
Bud: "Yours had teeth too".
Lou: "Did you see that tooth?"
Bud: "Yes I saw"
Lou: "My date had so much bridge work, every time I kissed her, I had to pay a toll."
That cracks me up every time I hear it. It never gets old.
Really great review Antonia.....
Definitely the bit where Lou Costello sits in Franky's lap. Great that you got to see it on the big screen! Peace, love and 10/10 fricheks
It was AWESOME on the big screen. The kids in the theater laughed especially hard at that Frankenstein lap scene.
@@AntoniaCarlotta I've never aspired to a sense of humor above a 3rd grade level.
I have to put that theater on the bucket list. I have never seen any of the Universal Monster Movies on the big screen.
You should go when I introduce Dracula and Phantom in October!
@@AntoniaCarlotta I would love to, but I live in NY and October is kinda booked for me. maybe sometime in the future
Thanks for this video Antonia!! Awesome! ❤
This is my favorite horror comedy movie too!
Next to the other movies...the original Little Shop of Horrors and Young Frankenstein! 💀
What do you think about the movie Young Frankenstein?
the Original Working Title was
“The Brain of Frankenstein”
but the Studio felt there was nothing funny abt it as it sounded like a Straight Up Horror Film since they already Anticipated working w Bud & Lou
glad you are back! ever been to bela's grave or glenn strange's?
interesting!
I of course love the original Universal Monsters. Your family are guinness. I also appreciate the remake and comedies. The offer a good contrast. Luckily we have both to enjoy to this day. Nothing in hollywood today is original. It is often a retelling or re imagining of some other art. We should enjoy both and maintain our appreciation of the originals.
I think you mean geniuses.
So wish I could see your presentations! Will they be on your channel, PLEEEEZ? 😢
I'll try to get someone to record them from the audience. It'll be an immersive experience - almost like you're there!!
Loved Abbott & Costello as a kid, but not now. Still love my monsters, though! Except Dracula! 🧛♂️
McDougal? I just got off the phone with you from London. How’d you get here so fast? They shoot you out of a cannon?
What modern comedian would you want the monsters to meet?
And Bela Lugosi Did not like The Horsing Around at all on the set and Did not like Bud And Lou's Freind Who was On Set on purpose trying to Cheer up the cast and Keeping Morale up.
Supposedly also behind the scenes and such a Downer , Both Abbot and Costello Didn't like the movie , Lou Especially I think thought It Would Bomb.
