- The Suzuki Jimny has long been a 3 door, or rather, a bit of a practical compromise. When the 5 Door version was announced, people who were on the fence about buying a Jimny now had more incentive to take the leap, but is it worth the price? The possibility of bringing more people along for the fun-comfortably-is quite a big deal for many Philippine buyers, and apparently, the rest of the world. I always wanted a Jimny when I was living in the US. Unfortunately, couldn’t get one brand new in the US auto market.
Moved to the Phils 5 yrs ago and been on the fence of getting a 3 door.
When the 5 door got released in the Phils, I pulled the trigger. I’m glad I waited.

It’s better to put in this way except Suzuki every car maker like Mitsubishi Motero / pajero 3 door , Toyota lc 3 door kei 4x4 Killed this segment the fact only Jimny is making to this day is great i wish more companies start making mini 4x4 and good thing is toyota is also planning mini Fj cruiser at similar dimensions of 5 door Jimny which will bring back the segment

This car has a community around it, it is not for everyone, more for enthusiasts who do offroad and camping and of course have a lot of cash to burn, no one is forcing anyone to buy it, funny so many are complaining 😅

This 5 door is for someone who fell in love with their 3 doors and would love to try bringing their friends a long the ride - do 4x4 over the weekends or holidays. This isn't for someone who can't appreciate its style and doesn't have extra cash. Yes, it's overpriced but heck, if you can't buy it why say "I prefer this than that". As if you can afford it right?

I’d personally go for the three-door variant in Kinetic Yellow, but this five-door is a no-brainer if you want to take your family and friends with you.
As always, Caco and AD team did a really good review. For me, this car might be the best mini 4x4 but with its price point and engine spec, plus the back seats has only bottle holders is a hard pass. Again, for me. Should have added an air vent or charging ports.
It will go 500,000 km and if you want it will last for ever. Its not a throw away vehicle like every thing else. The price is high and resale price remains high. Its a win win. As for the engine supercharging is easy and it makes a massive difference. Its instant power. A must

I'm wandering if the infotainment system of the 5 door Jimny would be applicable to 3 door Jimny. This is a very good upgrade if they will be able allow the existing owners of the 3 door Jimny to upgrade.
The extra space and doors are additional things one could use to justify getting one. The wife will probably see through you but at least you have a few more tools you can use.

Was this trip last Friday morning?! We were in a Patrol Super Safari and I think we passed this red Jimny while the driver was peeing on the side of the rough road in Daraitan. 😊

given the same amount of money, intended purpose - i'd go for a pickup truck instead. Well my personal practical choice, best bang for buck
Also MUX is way better for that price. This thing with tiny 130nm ertiga engine, is not for real offroad

i saw it yesterday, and was able to sit inside. Omg it is so so beautiful. If only it had more power to match the looks, and for this price you can already buy a Hilux. Good looking but not practical at all. If it was around 1.2M I would pull the trigger though. I'll just wait for the Toyota Mini Fj cruiser and see if Suzuki will make some adjustments.

been a fan for a long time and as always very reliable car review, however for a just small suggestion, for car space at the back, might as well use maleta or luggage rather than balik bayan boxes, nowadays everyone travels with luggage and balik bayan boxes are always delivered by covered van/trucks by freight companies to its final destinations.
and not everyone will be familiar with the size of balik bayan boxes as there are a lot of freight companies that uses diff box dimensions.
With the Jimny, you'll have a feeling of exclusivity and uniqueness than, as some people here prefer, having a pick-up. Yes, the Jimny is "overpriced." But the Jimny has character and is very interesting than another run-of-the-mill, unremarkable and very common pick-up trucks whatever it may be. Just my cent.

Pros : only 1...its boy toy.. Mods and decorations enjoyable to add.. Super customizable.. Sourcing it online and waiting for it to deliver and DIYs is fun..

Slow.
Not for long drives.
Wind drafts shakes car bad.. Risky
Noisy cabin.
Steering play is horrible.
Getting a turbo and Stg 2/3 upgrades.. If u into such Hobbies.. Go get 1

Bibilhin pa din ng mga fanatics yan sa P1.7m kahit na obvious naman na tinaga sa presyo. To think na all Jimny 5 doors are manufactured in Japan and not India. Kung galing Japan yan medyo mauunawaan ko pa yung price kasi mas mahal duties and taxes ng mga sasakyan na manufactured dun.

The Jiimny is a great offroader and it fits the bill nicely. However if you want to do the whole 4x4 thing cheaper, then your best bet is the top spec GWM Cannon at 1.5mil. Yeah the 5 door is pricey to the point where if you really want one thats what youre going to pay. The closest thing in terms of body style and capability is a GWM(again)Tank but thats over 2mil(because it has the urbo people feel the Jimny needs and way more tech even for the offroad bits)if you think about it what way the Jimny is a bargain. Of course if you look at the usual suspects, yes you can get them cheaper but theyre the 4x2 which isnt a fair comparison to this.

@@rhoelg well they have a good product and a decent price that pulls the pants down of the other automakers. Their products in general tend to last long even today I saw one of their older steeds , single cab had letters and and numbers for the model, thats how old it was, still working.
People who love the Jimny do so because it is small, extremely durable, nimble, economical and simple. It doesn't have a million useless electronic gizmos to go wrong. There isn't anything else in that class. The Tank 300 for example is more for people who want a full size 4x4 but can't afford one.

Severely underpowered given the added weight. What made the 3-door work was the engine-weight ratio, despite the small engine it was still fairly nimble.

The 5 door loses a little in ramp over angle but gains stability on corrugated roads owing to its longer wheel base. Can't begin to tell you how skittish the 3 door is on corrugated dirt roads at speed.
The Jimny, be it the 3 or 5 door, remains as one of my go-to cars to own someday.

An alternative I'm personally considering is the Mazda CX-5 AWD with it's off road traction assist.
Put some all terrain tyres on it and an HRG 1.5 inch lift on and it would get pretty damn close to a jimny I'd say.
The advantage with this setup is more power, higher ground clearance at 230mm+, better technology, better NVH, and better comfort overall.

As the price is near the Ford ranger and Mitsubishi triton, i would get the ranger or the triton. my opinion only.
When all that hype and nostalgia wears off, you are left with an over-priced 5-door underpowered mini-offroader and wished you just bought the 3-seater instead😂😂😂
As much as I would love to have a Jimny 5 door, the price would negate it. For the same money or just a little more you could have another 4x4 which is larger, better equipped and able to do so much more.

The reason why its expensive because there's competitionnin its segment. If other brands create mini 4x4 car definitely competition is there and the price will not be this high.
Suzuki's KB15 engine must be something. Been used from Ertiga,XL7 to Jimny... It is possible kaya to slap a turbo kit on that engine?
Don't know about turbo but supercharger yes. I have a supercharger on mine the numbers are increased up to 210nm and 160bhp.
There's a few turbo kits in Japan, but just for right hand Drive Jimny, they interfere With steering column on left hand side
There's turbo from F Performance, Carlos Gono got one and it reached 200 HP at the flywheel.
Caco has the sense of humor of a rock and tries so hard to be funny it gets tiring. I feel like Earl's laugh at 13:45 is a really genuine reaction to Caco's corny humor.

The only suzukis diesel 4x4 you could find was the samurai, vitara and Jimny made in Spain in Santana back in 2000's With Peugeot and renault also the 1st and 2nd gran vitara got some from Renault and Peugeot, but diesel from suzuki, none 14:11
torn between 3 doors and 5 doors so i bought honda brv for now but i will definitely buy a jimny soon, just cant decide which one
go with the 3 door. getting the 5 door doesn't make sense, same engine but with more body weight takes a toll on that small 1.5 engine

Medyo tumataas na nga lang yung price at ₱1.7M. At that price parang mapapaisip ka kung worth it ba. Dapat ₱1.5M siguro ito, maximum, lalo na't ang budget meal ng cabin: lots of hard plastics, no center compartment, no second-row aircon, no leather seats, etc. Mahina rin engine. Hirap umakyat yan kahit na 4x4.
if the price and 4x4 is youre concern, go 4x4 ford or toyota.
I think the initial size of it (as a 3 Door) is just too small to be turned into a 5 Door

Haven’t even added performance and customization costs. This goes north of 2-2.5M pesos. Yikes! That’s close to having a brand new Ranger Raptor.
