  • Suzuki Jimny family expands with long-wheelbase five-door ‘XL’, which delivers more practicality but little else 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
    When the fourth-generation Suzuki Jimny arrived in 2018 it instantly became a smash hit - so much so that Suzuki Australia had to halt sales of the three-door automatic due to a mountain of orders.
    And now the first five-door version has finally arrived after attracting 3000 orders, meaning it’s sold out for six to nine months too.
    So is this more practical micro off-roader truly worth the wait? Find out just why senior editor Feann Torr loves and hates the 2024 Suzuki Jimny XL in this video review, which tests the plucky little mud-slinger on and off-road.

      Agreed. There's something nostalgic about this car that transcends its flaws. On our website Feann gave the car 63/100 verdict and concluded with this:
      "One could argue that owning a Suzuki Jimny XL is comparable to being a parent; it can sometimes be vexing and troublesome and janky and contradictory. Yet that’s what makes it so endearing."

    I have had mine as daily driver and adventure sincew 2009. I paid more to get one with rubber mats (no carpet) and steel wheels, wind up windows, no cruise co0ntrol,. no power steer. It is as basic and analogue that anyone can get and I designed her that way, which I think Suzuki prefers as well. Before this 2009 purchsed mew one owner, I had a 1986 vSierra and that was fantastic as well. Your appraisal was not only accurate and fair, warts and all, but the best Jimy Review I have listened to in 13 years. Thankyou. PSX I oftyen hit 140 kph (she gets awqay from me) driving 20 kilometers on fast road to Town.. In my Model she sits firm, no wadle, shimmy or drift, where you point is where she goes and stays until you move again gripping the road firm, hence getting away from me when driving, if it had idiocincracies, I would notice and keep my speed down BUT as I think mindlessly, I look down and too often I am doing 140kph "with more pedal by far, to go". I think this one would do 160kph, 1300 cc VVT. Fautless after 15 years

    Under 35K for the Xl 5 door? I paid 40k in NSW for a new 2024 in stock White colour with manual transmission. I priced cars in Newcastle NSW and Sydney. Limited stock and unless your lucky you will wait 12 to 18 months for your order. Sydney City Suzuki had none available in a manual transmission and came in at 39,800 K . These are on road costs of coarse. These are great little cars but not 35 K. Good video. Tried and true Jimny has been around for a lot of years. I road tested my car today o pick up end of week. They feel solid and more stable on road in the 5 door configuration. I like the Jimny.

      @@carsales The super underpowered, cant pull the skin off a custard comment is a tad harsh. I went from a 400 Horsepower tuned e92 BMW to this 75kw little car. I went away to a mates property between Bathurst and Cowra a few days ago. Feral goat, pigs and deer country. In low range the little Jimny XL went places you would not believe. My friends Mercedes Unimog has ripped tyres from the rims on this property. The little 1.5 litre engine does not have to be that powerful to do it. I have seen big expensive V8 Hummers and 260k V8 Turbo Mercedes G wagons with loads of engine power get stuck and the little Jimny just drives past them. Actually take one up some very steep rocky hills and through some creeks and then do a proper review. Sorry if I sound rude, just saying I have tried and tested my new Jimny XL, I did not buy it to win races or be a sports car. It is a very capable 4WD, and by no means a family car. The new model has some nice modern additions, without being over complicated.

      @andyroo3022 Před 6 dny

      @@jamesquinton2547 let me know when you buy a new 5 door one under 40k in NSW Australia then. The new model besides having extra doors does have a lot more mods than the older model. I like it anyway. Took it away a few days ago. Very capable off road vehicle. Not just talking little dirt roads. Some big hills and lots of loose rocks and through creeks. Incredible little vehicle to drive. It does not need loads of power. Just cruise in Low range and she goes just about anywhere offroad. Not to bad on the highway through Newcastle to Sydney and on to Bathurst and to Cowra. Passing trucks don't really move it much in the 5 door longer wheel base.

  • @freakout4775
    @freakout4775 Před 3 měsíci +12

    I have bought a jimny too recently. I live in India. My variant is Alpha MT kinetic yellow dual tone. I've driven it around 4k kms and this is what I feel about this car:-
    Pros:
    1. Very capable off roader. Earlier I was driving 4x2 where sometimes I had to struggle during off roading but off roading in jimny feels way way easier.
    2. Compact car. Maneuvering on narrow roads not an issue.
    3. Suspension is really good.
    4. Body roll over is almost non-existent.
    5. Less road presence makes your car look different and with some modifications, people will keep checking out your car.
    6. Boot space is adequate. U can put sufficient luggage if u want to go on a trip.
    7. Five door system makes it highly practical. Ones who have used 3 door system on gpysy and thar (don't know if those are available in international markets) would understand how tedious and uncomfortable it is to sit in the rear seats. Due to this reason, jimny can actually be used as a primary car.
    8. Best 4x4 at this price.
    Cons:
    1. Rear seat belt alarm is annoying. (fixed it by detaching the bus couplers below rear seats).
    2. Gearbox is stiff initially and may take time to adjust.
    3. Stock tyres and the front grill give a bad look to this car imo. Stock tyres are really thin. From the front, car looks like a toy due to this very reason. Upgrade if possible. Side profile of this car looks great though.
    4. This car feels underpowered. No matter what others say, this car won't compete with many on the highways. This might be a factor to many who like to drive fast. There's a lag in acceleration.
    5. Turning radius is a bit more.
    6. Cabin space inside is not enough for big bulky guys. If you're bit overweight, your arms will be touching the car door and also to the person sitting alongside you in the front. For skinny guys it's not an issue. Car is tall enough so there's enough space for your head also.
    7. Under thigh support is not adequate in the rear seats.
    8. This car doesn't have proper storage space for basic stuff like bottles, phones etc. It's really bothering.

      Hello! I ´m about to buy the jimny MT …how do you feel about the MT right now? Has the mt transmission improved that stiffness or not? Would you advice to buy automatic now or are you happy with your Manual transmission?

    • @freakout4775
      @freakout4775 Před 2 měsíci

      @@diegoamestica4038 i wud say overtime the stiffness of gearbox has reduced and the experience of driving MT has improved. I personally find driving Manual Transmission thrilling. Moreover, you get to save few extra bucks so that's an added advantage. I have no regrets on buying MT over AT. Overtime you'll get used to the remaining stiffness in the gearbox and you won't even realise it's presence. But I would definitely recommend a test drive before you make the final decision.

    Not compromising off road capabuility for onroad proformance is the main selling point to the Jimny and not compromising reliabulity by adding unnessasary bling helps keep the weight down so it dosen't need a large motor. My 2nd gen 2012 has yet to break down and I've only just changed out the oridginal batery this year. though I'd like to change up the the new Jimny jus to have a bit more room as a stock vehical in this day and age it's hard to find somthing better. a bit more wheel travel and a locker would be nice though

The pricing should be reviewed along with the tech details, as the vehicle could do with a turbo along witha1.5 L motor and a 6 speed transmission to give it some boost and cruising speed along the highways in Australia.
