Canon Wi Huata composed the song "Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi" during a family gathering at Lake Tūtira, north of Napier. He shared its significance with his children, narrating how this location symbolised unity among the iwi or tribe in the past. After World War 2, he employed this song as a means to advocate for unity among diverse cultures. Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi has gained in popularity particularly at sporting events as another New Zealand anthem.
