  • This family had a pet coyote that they had trained and tamed. They also rescued a cat and were happy to find that these two got along very well. They played around and wrestled around the room despite their difference in size.

Coyotes that are bottle raised and around humans just like dogs are very tame, they are socialized and know they get a feeding every day and are very friendly. I discovered at a young age that my cats, dogs, birds AND fish liked to chase / peck at the laser dot. The cats and dogs would vigorously chase it together. One of my dogs would even poke at my hand to get me to laser-play, so it clearly understood what was going on, but loved it just as much as the cats. With all their differences, its wild how similar they can be. Just be careful you don't beam them in the eyes.

Rowan Brult correction, dogs ARE wolves. Same species, Canis Lupus, subspecies familiaris. The difference is that dogs have the activated "domestication gene", which only some animals have (for example, zebras do not have the equine domestication gene found in horses and donkeys, which explains why centuries upon centuries of zebra domestication failed).
This coyote *is* still a wild animal, genetically, but that's ok. A tame animal is still perfectly fine with humans as long as its happy and its needs are being properly met. Our birds and reptiles are all tame, we love them, and as far as we know none of them carry any domestication gene at all. We haven't technically domesticated coyotes specifically, but as they are also a subspecies of Canis Lupus I'm sure they carry the gene. I don't think anyone would want to domesticate coyotes though, due to the issues we have with their populations.

Where bottle-fed wild canines are motivated to learn how to socialize with humans, those raised by other canines don’t readily perceive any value in depending upon people - they‘ll look “through” you and “past” you rather than “to” you if they need something. It's interesting how in sync they are with each other. The cat lays down and the coyote lays in the same position as the cat. Almost like they're mimicking each other. Also the coyote lets the cat attack him and then when he attacks in a playful way he stops and gives the cat a chance. This is not all that common even when cats are playing together much less when it's a domesticated dog and cat. It's rare when you see such a pair have that kind of bond.

It's beautiful how these 2 play and coexist: It's all about how they're raised and with whom and/or what. Reminds me of another channel I watch with a big black panther and a Rottweiler that live together... It's the opposite with a bigger cat than dog.
But these 2 display the "rough play" very well: the coyote lays with her throat exposed in a submissive position to make the cat comfortable attacking, but that's because the coyote craves the roughness the cat displays and can reciprocate without being too rough back. ❤️😻😸

Most animals play like that. It's so sad how people panic when a dog barks at their dog and they pick the dog up to protect them, which is the worst thing you can do. Most well socialized dogs will play rather than fight. Barking is usually excitement, not an announcement of intent to kill. People make their dogs nervous wrecks by panicking every time another dog approaches. Most people treat dogs like kids. Dogs are nothing like kids and require much different interaction. They are selfish to treat their dogs in ways to make themselves feel good. If you love an animal then learn about them and how to treat them to make them happy.
