      I know what you’re saying, but those NBA players earning that much aren’t just average. Anyone earning that much money playing basketball is a top 50 player on planet Earth. In a perfect world Usain would be earning way more than them, but this not a perfect world. Also - calling them average is extremely disrespectful to their thousands of hours of hard work.

      @@jamesb5705Well you can say that about everything. What's soccer? You just kick a ball and run around a field. Or what's skateboarding? You just stay on a bunch of wheels with a desk fixed above 'em and you jump or whatever the hell you do.
      But there are interesting aspects everywhere. In sprinting winning isn't a matter of strong legs or endurance,or just speed. You need to relax and don't try to run hard,apply force vertically,not horizontally. Your tactic matters more than your body's capabilities even when running 100m. All that stuff changes your view and you see athletes differently. For example I don't even know soccer rules and stuff,I know 3-4 players and I didn't like it until I realised the same thing applies to soccer as it does to track and field

      James Lewis likewise, football athletes dedicate their lives to become as best as they can and are at the spot they are in. You think they are making millions sitting on a bench. Just like bolt practicing hours and hours just to run a 10-20 second race, all athletes work their butts off.

    • @shravanpradeep8434
      @shravanpradeep8434 Před 4 lety +138

      Sadly, every sport gets paid according to popularity, though it makes sense. People make fun of WNBA players for wanting to get payed more, but they literally can't because the sport isn't nearly as popular as the actual NBA, and while that might be due to physical differences, they still work basically just as hard. Track and field has to be more popular for the athletes to get payed more, and sadly people would rather watch football and basketball.

    • @jastew8814
      @jastew8814 Před 4 lety +26

      James Lewis you cant compare football to track. I’m a big track fan, and I hate football, but they’re incomparable. The NFL makes a lot more money than the IAAF or diamond league. The NFL generates so much money, and it goes to the players because there’s some contract where teams share n% of the money that they generate with the players.

    TRP. Another great video. Just a couple of points though: The Olympics do NOT pay prize-money. So, Gold medal winners don't actually make anything. However, the national association of the Country the athlete represents often pay something. BUT Jamica AA is pretty much broke and I don't know how much the Island Government paid him. Where the individual athlete gets $ for Olympic performances (G,S,B) often comes as part of their main athletic gear sponsor as a bonus. So just winning Gold isn't enough. You have be be on a special contract from your main supplier (eg Puma) that has something written in about "Bonus" payments for certain results in big Games. There are plenty of Olympic Gold Medalists in the more obscure sports that make NOTHING except a small gratuity from their governing association. Often you can buy their medals in "Cash Converter" second-hand stores. Sad, but true.

    They say he's the most underpaid track and field athlete in history in comparison to his skill. But I guarantee you if stories came out about Usain Bolt having money disputes with the track and field world and sponsors, he would have been vilified and called all sorts of names akin to greed and selfishness- that's the media for you. His net worth is rumoured to be $90 million so I guess his career was well compensated in the end.

    • @ah7027
      @ah7027 Před 4 lety

      @The Moon he shouldve found a bigger sport then. At the end of the day salaries are controlled by how popular the sport is. track earns a fraction of the money that bigger sports like football and basketball earn yearly. This is like the womens teams mad they dont make as much as the mens team. in reality of you took gross numbers of football as a whole and of track as a whole youd probably find that bolt earns a higher percentage of the entire gross wealth in track than your best football player earns.

It's not easy to do what he does, if you don't have the spark of passion he has, you won't have the opportunity to even reach near his potential.

    its crazy coz we still think usain bolt gets underpaid even though his fortune is like $100m. Dont get me wrong i still think hes getting underpaid for what he has done but think about athletes such as mo farah and allyson felix their net worth is like 5 to 7 million!!! as a whole track stars do not get paid near the amount they deserve

    • @ah7027
      @ah7027 Před 4 lety +1

      ultimately it isnt about what they deserve. its about what brings in money. As a whole track and field brings in a fraction of what other sports bring in yearly. If a company is only making 100k they arent going to pay an athlete 50k. in turn if that company makes 100million there much more likely to pay the athlete 50k.

    Not bad for 3 days of work? This man has been training his whole damn life for those 3 days. And money is not everything because when he had nothing puma sponsored him and when he broke record Nike tried to buy him out of the contract and he rejected the money deciding to settle for less because he wanted to be loyal. U should have talked about that. Alot of people would opt out for bigger money but he stayed loyal to the sponsor that saw potential in him when he was broke. life is all about money and for him to do something like this shows his character.
