- Positano Italy is a dream like town in the south of the Amalfi Coast but does it live up to all the Instagram and social media hype it receives? Here is a real look at Positano from Spiaggia Grande to Fiordo di Furore.

You’re ruining these beautiful places
Yeah ok. Anyone who writes something like that is making money from the “courses” only
It isn’t and you are a clown.
So strange to hear positano refered to as an instagram sensation.... I mean it was a sensation waaaaay before instagram
That still doesn’t mean it is not an Instagram sensation. Jesus
I’m 30, never heard of it til right now
Ben stricklin that means you’re ignorant lmao
@@hellomoto4906 Yeah that is pretty unlikely
I know right, I have spent summers in Amalfi since my childhood, visiting Capri, Sorrento and Positano.
being there as a tourist and complaining about all the tourists..amazing
That's a very normal thing, like going to the supermarket and complaining about the long line, or complaining about the traffic jam you're in (even though you're part of it). You expect people to be happy when they go somewhere and it's overly crowded??
@@Kprywatne well sorta but at market usually because they don't open enough lines or traffic because of accident..these places are the most popular in the world so you expect loads of people and deal with it
@@Kprywatne or go when it's not so busy like September
Konto Prywatne They’re contributing to that crowd though. They’re selfish hypocrites for criticising what they themselves are doing.
I know right! What’s next, people complaining over a delicious traffic jam?
"its very touristic and I don't like that" said the tourist.
People think they're so perceptive when they say this but it's actually an incredibly stupid. One of the MAIN challenges of tourism is finding the best time and place to go somewhere and avoiding the crowds. It's the number one challenge of touristic travel. So of COURSE they will mention it.
There are many places I would love to see in the world, but won't go because of the insane numbers of tourists. I rather wait for the surge to die down or go somewhere else, so it's good to know which places to avoid.
😂
Hahahahahahahah Derp 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's kinda dumb hahahaha 😭😂
omg thank you, I rolled my eyes LMAO. nothing like a tourist that thinks she's/he's better than the other tourists.
Positano is not an Instagram sensation. Positano was well known in the world long before Instagram became a thing. Not everything in the world is about social media.
Yeah, I mean, americans and Europe, right? x'D
you mad bro? lol
Wow thanks for that insight genius, literally everyone thought Positano was made 3 years ago specifically with Instagram in mind until you corrected us all.
@@bob2000and10 Well it wouldnt be a surprise if an american actually thought that haha
I have never heard of this place till this day actually
A social media narcissist complaining about others doing exactly what he is doing. Makes sense - in his alternate reality fantasy world which revolves around him, and him alone.
This is why a lot of people are bothered by tourists. You jumped a fence, which is there for a reason and you parked on the main road also in a weird way with little visibility. Now imagine a 100more people with the same behavior visiting every single day, doing stupid stuff like that, well it adds up real quick. Be more mindful and respectful of local laws, customs and just be a more decent human being, please.
Oh lighten up. You sound like a crotchety old person - like griping he jumped a fence. People do alot worse than this guy did.
@@nathanarmstrong2652 no, stop it. He's right, just don't justify those childish behaviors.
@@tomasgordillo I do agree its good to be respectful and considerate of others. I just didn't think it seemed that bad. Like lecturing him to be a "more decent human being." As if he stole something or slapped someone for no reason - wasn't that bad was it?

This part of Italy and the islands around it are spectacular. Its like you are living a dream and you cannot believe how much beauty is in front of you. I wish I had been blessed to be born in such a magical place, the people that live there already live in paradise.
But they change it in a hell
The problem with living in a beautiful place is the swarm of tourists that drive up prices and shape the city for themselves.
Das me
Then they transform it into a tacky tourist trap
@@Brandon-jw5cv Its luxury, and trust me prices are not that bad. Go to Switzerland and then tell me if its worth going to Capri
this is one of my favorite if not my all time favorite place in the world. i recommend coming here in late spring to avoid more tourists. many italians also come here during the summer from other areas to vacation so it’s extra crowded. late spring is beautiful, you can still go in the water and avoid more crowds. many of the locals i spoke to love the tourism. it keeps their businesses flourishing. i think there’s a mistake in calling it an instagram sensation. it is not popular because it is an instagram sensation. it became one because it is beautiful and an amazing place to come to. social media doesn’t rule everything.
I'm hoping to go in April. Hopefully not too busy but still sunny enough to sit out with a Spritz
No one, absolutely no one.
A tourist: "it's very touristic ".

Logic died with the invention of iPhone, Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp..
If travelling on a BUDGET, try what we did. It wasn't mentioned in the video but there is a fast ferry service between Positano, Capri, and most of the other cities along the coast. Many of the other cities are just as beautiful as Positano with much cheaper accommodation and you can take a day trip to Positano using the fast ferry. Bonus water views included in your ferry ride! We rented a place in Capri that was 1/4 the price of Positano but just as beautiful! Save money and hassles by not renting a car. Rent a place in town and walk to the ferry dock and everywhere else. We also spent a week at a cabin in a campground that was much cheaper than a hotel/airbnb. Amalfi Coast is still an expensive destination though.
Well said. :)
Yes I've done that. We took the ferry from positano to amalfi instead of driving. Very beautiful. Would recommend
The video is more of Instagram traveling, not budget travel. You have a better idea.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I agree with you. We stayed reasonably in Sorrento visited that city while staying in the mountain (www.albergovillafiorita.com/ )overlooking the city. It was very inexpensive. We then took advantage of the public transportation and went to Positano and Amalfi. I have also taken the ferry from Napoli(Naples) to Capri. My point is you do not need to stay in Positano to enjoy the Amalfi Coast.

How would you not go as a tourist? Should he go as a local?
Positano was a port of the Amalfi Republic in medieval times, and prospered during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. By the mid-nineteenth century, however, the town had fallen on hard times. More than half the population emigrated, mostly to America.
Positano was a relatively poor fishing village during the first half of the twentieth century. It began to attract large numbers of tourists in the 1950s, especially after John Steinbeck published his essay about Positano in Harper's Bazaar in May, 1953: "Positano bites deep", Steinbeck wrote. "It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.
Postiano is usually an alternative to Capri.
Beata Collazo yeah, but i would say Capri is even more expensive.
Peter N And until the 60' and maybe even the early 70's it might have been true. Now it's a nightmare. The worst tourist trap in Italy, and I am Italian and know the place well.

2019 I was blessed to experience Italy. It is gorgeous and an experience like few others. I would do anything to return. Any negatives are so outweighed by the history and beauty of the region. Amalfi coast cannot be given any justice in photos. It the total experience. I say this as a man who pushed an 80 year old woman around Italy so she could go home for her birthday.
Just stay away, you don’t appreciate anything, we don’t need moaners
He hated Sweden too. That pissed me off.
Love the story telling and the history lessons man - makes it much more engaging and makes me wanna go - you're videos are always awesome! Keep it up man!
Your video editing is unreal! Great video and incredible views.
Positano is my favorite coastal towns in south of Italy, visited it for the second time this past July and loved it so much and still missing it till today. We went to the same restaurant you did and the food was awesome. I would love to visit Positano again in the future...thank you for this video. Made me think about my holiday all over again. We visted Sorrento, Amalfi and Capri and Capri was my least favorite as it was overpriced...
Just came back from the Amalfi coast..... breathtakingly beautiful!!! Food was beyond delicious!!!
Love your editing style! Great drone shots as always. Positano is such a beautiful destination. Love love Italy in general.💕 Thanks for sharing your adventures. Enjoy your stay!
I stayed in Salerno which is a bit of a hidden gem. High speed train from the rest of Italy stops there, 40 min local train to Pompeii, 1 hour to Napoli. High speed ferries to Amalfi, Positano and Capri for a handful of Euro's. For scenic views and photos the true star of the Amalfi coast in my opinion is Ravello.
A city of 140k people isn't exactly a hidden gem. Positano has under 4k people.
I love the Amalfi Coast but I think Sorrento has to be one of my favorite places! It’s a lot less crowded because it’s not as condensed, but still has a similar charm to Positano! Also still pretty close so you can definitely take a day trip to Positano!
Next time go there without filming or taking a picture. Just enjoy it for your own pleasure. You’ll create real memories. Not fabricated ones for money.

They do it for the $$$
Mamma mia so funny listening you speaking Italian! Finally in Italy hope you enjoyed it and you will plan to visit the north too
Something to keep in mind as well is that it's a bit tricky to access the Amalfi coast.
We were staying in Rome, took a train to Naples, and had booked a private transfer to Positano (which ended up being a van, a bus, then a car --ugh). That travel time took about 4 hours from Rome.
On the way out of Positano back to Rome we wanted to save money and took the bus to Sorrento. But to get to the bus stop we had to hike a ton of stairs with our luggage. Then we took the train from Sorrento to Naples, and another train from Naples to Rome.
Just kind of a pain :) But probably worth it if you're staying several days!
I am back from a trip to Amalfi Coast..believe me, no photo can express the real beauty of this place and Positano especially.. how the light changes on the houses..it's really incredible...you feel like in a postcard... I highly recommend the visit . 🥰🥰

I live near Napoli and pizza is 3 euros, can't believe they're charging that much 😮 Recommended naples over anywhere in the area
Isabel Adora I agree, I stayed in Naples for one week and travelled to so many places whilst staying overnight in central Naples!
@@Mikey-mb6lb Thank you for let us know about this, I am so concerned. Do you recommend all Positano and Capri as day trips from Napoli (no need for a night at Sorrento or something)? And by which mean of public transport ? Many thanks
REVO_MOVO use public transport from Napoli to Positano. Day trip in Positano only as it’s very beautiful. Sorrento is a little bit boring, not much to do only to pick transport to Amalfi. Capri is separate so you should use a public ferry from Napoli for a whole day.
@@Mikey-mb6lb That answers all my doubt. Thank you very much !
Will be in Naples in October what pizza do you recommend?
I have been in Positano before and love it. After watching your video I feel that I shoul go again. Good job.
Thank you, wonderful video, movie !! I love Amalfi, Positano, Ravello. Super job !
I live in Naples (about an hour and a half away from Positano) and it doesn't matter how many times I go there, I'm always amazed by the beauty of Positano. Yes it is touristy but you went there in August (i suppose?) and in Italy everywhere is crowded in August. Yes it's expensive if you stay ONLY on the main beach and do the things that any other tourist does (such as eating in some of the most expensive restaurants of the area). There's another beach in Positano called "Spiaggia di Fornillo" at about 5 minutes away from Marina Grande (the main beach) where sun beds are way cheaper, so if you're travelling on a budget, you should definitely check it out and if you don't want to pay a beach club, there's also a quite big public beach ;)
Positano is definitely not one of the cheapest destination to travel to but if you ask the locals and if you move just a little from the main beach you can find many places that are not as expensive and touristy.
Federica Del Vecchio Thank you for this post! I love Positano and visit every June for a month. Fornillo beach is my favorite and I have connected with so many locals and feel like family every year I arrive. Anyone will tell you that August is the worst time to visit the coast as it is filled with tourists and other Europeans who are vacationing.
Inez Barberio yes! I agree with everything you said! Thank you 🙏🏻❤️
Hello from Athens Greece )) ..i love visit Positano at March )) you think is good time ?)) ..and from Naples goes Bus there ?))
DIMITRISCOBE I think Positano is amazing all year long, however during winter many restaurants and attractions are closed so if you want to have an immersive Positano experience, I recommend going in June or September (in july and august it’s very crowded).
If you want to go from Naples to Positano, you have to take a train to Sorrento and, from there, a bus that goes directly to Positano. As far as I know there are no buses from Naples.

If you go south a little further Paestum has some great ancient temples!

Postano is incredibly beautiful, long history and culture... People just know it because of Instagram... Ignorance is very sad 😥
I went to Amalfi instead of Positano and it was so chill, way more affordable and just as beautiful, the only issue was that the ferry to Capri was over an hour and really bad for sea sickness - but I’d choose Amalfi over Positano any day!
I liked Amalfi, was a cool place to spend the holiday

Aperol spritz is made with aperol and prosecco which is a wine that comes from the north est of Italy
Maloenton everyone in the world make pizza 🍕 ahah I only said that aperol is a drink that comes from Veneto 😊 .
Loved the video!! But there are also other cheaper options to make the trip. You can get there by using the Sita Bus which leaves from Sorrento and stops on every town across the Amalfi Coast plus you can use the ticket for 24 hours. The ride on boat can be done in a shared excursion, that way you get way more better prices. For hotel options, Praiano is just about 20 mins by local bus to Positano and way cheaper too! I preferred the swim in Amalfi Beach but a lot of it is private too.

Really enjoyed this real talk video! Been dreaming of this place for the longest time. Im used to tempering my expectations when i visit a famous place and experience it for what it is. I live in NY so its the same can be super touristy depending where you go
Also, the three islands. Capri is the most toured and well known, but Ischia and Procida are also beautiful.
I heard that the movie "The talented Mr. Ripley" was shot in one of those, Procida I believe.
Best pizza in Positano is Chez Black ;) Nice video, I love how you show on video Italy!
Positano is absolutely stunning. Way before Instagram mentionned it and posted the same points of view, I went there on sunset and it was so enchanting. Though it is expensive (shops and restaurants) it is so worth the trip because it represents the Italian cultural epitome in one place. I fucking loved it.

I was in Positano this summer and your video is an accurate summary of the typical Positano experience.
I actually did the Amalfi Coast tour starting from Salerno, then to Amalfi, then to Positano and ended in Sorrento where I stayed a couple of nights. I actually love Positano and the beach restaurants are cool. It is a bit of climb to get back to your transport though from the beach areas. The Amalfi route is windy and narrow, and lots of cars everywhere. Agree that it is very touristy though
Loved every moment at Positano, we stayed at Buca di Bacco for 2 nights, great hotel, fab food!!!

it’s literally not even that expensive, normal tourist prices. I lived in Milan and I live in Denmark now and both places are more expensive than this. If you don’t want to spend money, don’t go on vacation.
I agree. I wouldn't go to Positano just to eat pizza for just about every meal like some vloggers have done. Or, sit on hard rocks rather than to pay for the day bed and be comfortable. I would save my money and go when I could afford to really do everything I want to do. Just my opinion.

Dude... just quick tips.. I' m form Salerno... best way to visit the AMALFI COAST is to stay/base in CETARA , closer to Salerno... From there you can have the best/same food you get in Positano/Amalfi just on 1/3 of the price and just 1/3 of the Foreigners TOURIST you ll find in Sorrento/Positano/Amalfi..
From Cetara you can take a early morning boat that goes to Minori (3€ trip 20 minutes boat ride) to visit bit of the city and to try " SAL DE RISO " pastry which is one of the most famous pastry chef in whole Italy and you only find him there...
From Minori you can take another boat which takes you to AMALFI and is like 8€ trip....
Noone of locals goes to Amalfi/Positano unless some special events because everyone here knows that you can get exactly or even better experience in places like Cetara ... Just advice!

P.s. I really like your video so keep up with the good work and enjoy your life as usual man :)
LOST LEBLANC IS THE MANNN!!! I also sharing also my travel experience to all viewers in CZcams!

This was a really awesome video. Thanks for taking us with you.
Nice video! What an amazing place... Probably one of the best cost lines in the world. Next time, go to Tropea in Calabria... 👌
I went during May. Perfect time to go imho
You've so inspired me - I've seen it before but now I really want to go.
