Thanks to Reggie and Voultar for helping with this video! Check out their channels: www.youtube.com/@The_RadicalOne & www.youtube.com/@Voultar
I just wanted too say, you and reggie are the reason why I gave classic games a chance back in 2017 and i'll always be grateful for that
I like how you an Reggie is at the counter then the chairs I think I get to see more of the stuff you all are presenting. Different but I think is better.
Love your channel, Jason love your videos. I was wondering if you knew that Forza 4 is getting delisted. I was wondering if you heard anything about that keep up the good work
Just as an FYI, every PS3 is compatible with PS1 disc games.
Yall are life savers, man, looking to do ps1,ps2,psp and ps3 this is gonna help alot for the ps1 part
The PlayStation 1 is definitely my favorite system of all time. Making this video flooded me with so many memories of good times I’ve had playing this system over the years.
Me too I love that system❤
I'm super nostalgic for this system. First one i got with a paycheck from good old blimpie subs. The multitude of games was so exciting. Something about jet moto 2😊😊😊😊
agreed 8000 games to choose from
Great video! Definitely a thorough video on starting a ps1 collection! Makes me feel like my video on it is pre school shit lol
I got a PS1 for Christmas when I was 13 with RE2, Tenchu, and Die Hard Trilogy. Before this I had a Genesis. Consoles made LEAPS and BOUNDS when they came out. Not so much anymore. The PS1 always has a special place in my heart
Slight correction re: PS3 back-compat: every PS3 can play PS1 games! Only PS2 back-compat was removed with later models. The PS1 was always emulated on the PS3's cell processor, so they were able to include it on every revision!
As long as you dont mind 8 frames of lag lol.
@@ToTBoO there no lag, I havea fps counter and and I only play PS1 games on my PS3 for now
@@ToTBoO I use my PS3 for PS1 games all the time and have never had any issues
@@ToTBoOThat's just not true. I've played and beat tons of PS1 games on my PS3 Slim with zero to no lag.
Please take note that PS3 are able to play on CRTs! (i watch some old animes on Netflix using AV cable), on good ol’ Sony Trinitron CRT!
Though only a few ps3s can play ps2 games EVERY PS3 can play PS1 games
Easy way to remember is if your PS3 has 2 USB ports, it can't play PS2 games. Every PS3 model can play PS1 games.
Time to update every console buying guide videos for 2024!
Agreed.
I remember me and my older brother just giving our 3DO away after purchasing a PS1 with Castlevania SOTN, Bushido Blade, and Tenchu.
Such a trio of games.
@@initial_kd Definitely! Tenchu blew our minds. Never had seen a game like it.
Yo Bushido Blade was where it's at! My brother had 1 and 2 on 3DO and on PS1
Lmao my neighbor traded me ps2 slim with Tony hawks underground for my Super Nintendo with like 15 or so games. I was like 11 lmao
@@danielfishburn7042 I can never get tired of Tony Hawk's Underground. I still play it.
I still remember getting my first ps1, I miss buying gaming magazines with the demo disc, I discovered some good games this way.
Couldn’t think of a better person to make a PlayStation video with!
When I first held a Dualshock, I was blown away. I was like, this feels so good
Excellent. I'm 49, and I still remember picking up my Playstation at Walmart at 2am with my buddies. Such awesome memories especially of the first year or two. Blast Chamber, Tekken 1, Twisted Metal 1, Resident Evil, those early games were so fun, and it just reminds me of a great time in my life.
Me b my lil brother played a blast chamber demo for hours lol love that game
First a pickups video now this? Man it has been ages I feel since the last buying guide, and how I found your channel years ago! Love it man!
We got another Buying Guide coming soon. Stay tuned. 😜
Thankyou MJR for this video! The PS1 is my favorite system of all time. Sometimes when i'm down or feeling nostalgic, i just boot it up for the start up sound. Goosebumps and feelings of pure happiness is what i getting from that sound.
Alright! Love it when Reggie comes by 👍 thanks for the video fellas
My favorite console of all time.
Some games that I highly recommend are Parasite eve 1, 2 and Legend of legaia.
I really liked parasite eve 2. I never read a review of the game or heard anyone talk about it. I just bought it on a whim one day and was surprised at how good it was.
I'm 46 years old and only recently played Grandia for the first time. So many great games for every genre on this console.
@@helveciog fear effect 1 and 2 are good too
Ah nostalgia overload seeing the trippy colored memory card interface with the interactive blocks
for me it was the blaster with the button on the side
Metal Jesus should do a podcast about video games.
I'd listen to that. MJR is pretty well-spoken and knowledgeable and vibes with others pretty well, definitely a good formula for doing a podcast.
He did! He was a big part of the All gen gamers podcast! There's over 200 episodes you can go back to and enjoy 🙂
Yes pls. I'd love to hear it!
I still remember standing in a huge line with my older brother at Babbage's waiting to buy the PS1.
Killing it with these vids lately MJ 🙌🏻
I love that you two recommend lesser known games in this series, the top games lists/videos are always filled with all the same stuff we all already know. It's awesome to watch a video and actually write down a bunch of new games I've never heard of! Love it, looking forward to more updated console guides, it's one of my most watched on your channel. Thank you
This hits right in the feels. Loving the tag team videos!
Love your channel too bro !
@@BennyBsolo Thank you so much!
PS1 was such a huge part of my childhood. It blew my away. I didn't get mine until probably 1998 or so, maybe 99. But dang was it wild.
I'd add an honorable mention about why the retrotink4k may not be for everyone. It's expensive. I think it's $750 for one. But let me assure you, it's worth every penny. It's just that $750 is a lot of money for a lot of people. It does incredible things. Think scaling your nintendo switch to 4K and how beautiful that'd looked on an HDTV (OLED especially). It'll scale your PS3 to 4K. It'll downscale your HD stuff to 240p if you wish.
The firmware and the work that's gone into it is nothing short of incredible. The developer has poured thousands of hours of his time into perfecting the feature set, bringing new features to the Tink5X (which at this point is years and years old, yet he still strives to get every last ounce of performance out of that thing). It really is the definitive video scaler to own. You wouldn't be sorry. But if $750 + applicable tax and shipping is too much to swing, the tink5x does a wonderful job and as MJ says in the video you surely won't be dissapointed with it. No comparison to those $20 and $30 video cable converters from amazon.
Anywho. The PS1. Yes. What a wonderful system. The mods and things we have available for it today are incredible. Custom shells from muramasa entertainment. Memcard pro. Defender wireless controllers. ODE's. You name it. We have it. You can rock it old school stock on a CRT, or you can HDMI mod the system and connect it to a Tink4k and run it on a huge OLED flatscreen. The options are limitless. The fun is limitless. And if you can't do this work yourself, there are lots of people who make videos to help you learn and lots of people who you can commission to do the work for you.
Don't know what else to say other than I love this video! Long live the PS1. The PS1 and PS2 are easily among my favorite consoles of all time and they still see regular use even in a household with a nintendo switch, PS5, gaming PC, etc....
Thank you for this video. This helps me a lot with my collecting for the PS1.
Love your videos from you both! You guys make a good team! Subscribed and watching from West Virginia!❤️👍
fantastic video, thanks guys I'm looking into some of your game recommendations right now!
Great video! Thank you for the recommendations 😊
really great video! learned a lot new stuff i didnt know :) ty
Glad to hear it!
Awesome video! I adore the suggestions at the end and will definitely be working my way through some of them.
I've been in a retro mood lately. I just finished watching your 3DS video with Kelsey from years ago and now this video with Reggie. Great timing!
Love these updated buying guides! More please! ❤
These guys rock! My ps1 came with ridge racer and I had a jumping jack flash demo as well as Warhawk and many other games
Love these videos boys! Great work!
Thanks so much!
Very good video. Voultar always giving good advice about console maintenance .
Reggie, a real fan of PS1, speaking about the system.
I really enjoyed the video specially because I recently install the PSIO in the console.
Thanks for sharing!
I love all these buying guides. Keep them coming 👍
More to come!
What a great time to release this I have been getting into the PS1 and it’s games recently!
I remember you and Reggies 1st PlayStation 1 buying guide! Thx for make a part 2!
Perfect timing just bought myself a PS1, thanks for the vids guys always look forward to them.
Great content guys. Love the chemistry! ❤
On the controller side, 8bitdo’s wireless adapter for PS1/PS2 also works very well. Supports a wide range of Bluetooth controllers, including PS4, PS5, Xbox, and several others (including of course 8bitdo’s own controllers).
Awesome video guys
You and reggie are the best combo, I love watching you guys together. more updated buying guides please!... with hdmi solutions for older consoles that needs it. also it will be nice if you could do a video with the remaining metaljesus crew left after all these years especially with drunkenmasterpaul!!!
Just bought a ps one again thanks to this video lol can't wait to get it
As always, a great, entertaining video. Many thanks to you both.
Could literally watch you guys review anything and it would be enjoyable to watch. Thank you for the awesome content!
Wow, thanks!
Great video! What I have always wanted to watch is a video with Reggie about Game Boy Color hidden gems. He gets pretty cool stuff.
So many accessories I didn’t even know existed for the PS1. Always learn something new when I watch one of your videos !
Amazing video, love the buying guides! if I had one feedback on the video it might be that it felt a bit like you where in a hurry, like you guys where short on time, I don’t think anyone would mind if the video got a few minutes longer. Loved the accessories part!
Thanks for the video guys!
Great video as always i planned on collecting for PlayStation one as well as 4
Hopefully you will reach 1 million subscribers soon. More people need to know about your channel💯
Great video. Thank you both. PS1 is one of my all time favorites.
Great video MJR and Reggie! You always bring the nostalgia back with the classic systems. I recently started playing Grandia and Resident Evil Director’s Cut. I also want to say a special thank you to Reggie for busting out the one handed controller. In 1999 I was in a work accident and my buddy who owned a game store brought over that controller for me. I played lots of amazing rpgs and believe it or not Tiny Toons Bowling when friends would visit. Great times and amazing system to this day. Thanks dudes.
Another great video! Thank you both.
Just found your 10y video about UMD video collecting, loved it and glad to see the channel alive and well. Rock on and have a good day!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great informative video guys !!!
Great EP guys.
thank you
Yes I am here 5 minutes and I'm such a number one fan I'm so glad to be here for metal Jesus rocks and my favorite guy radical Reggie
Great video keep with the good work.
These hidden gems look great! good job, guys
Great vid guys. I still have Bushido blade I only ever got to the last boss and never got past it but I still loved that game
I can tell a lot of time and energy went into this. Thanks for the great video, guys!
wow You still here on youtube! And looking super cool!
MJR & Radical Reggie! Love these videos!
I loved this video!
Koudelka, never played, but watched the walkthrough for it, and fell in love with it
Thanks for the time stamps
No problem 👍
Fantastic video, ye guys are the best
My hidden gem for the PS1 is NASCAR Rumble. Despite the name, it has nothing to do with NASCAR other than the car liveries. It's pure arcade racing, and probably the closest thing to a Burnout game on the PS1. By default it has Mario Kart style powerups, but in my opinion, these get annoying very quickly. Thankfully they can be turned off.
There's a spiritual sequel on the PS2 called Rumble Racing.
Good job 👏 😊
I love that you guys have been doing updated buying guides! It’s been so long since you’ve shown your PSP collection. I think it would be great if you could do another update on PSP games!
Great guide guys! I still have my PSone which I bought from Blockbusters. Like you Jason I didn't go in there to buy a PlayStation, but when I saw that thing it was so cool and at the time unbelievably small, I had to get it! Along with a copy of Final Fantasy 7!
Great video guys. I put a few of those games on my list of what to look for at SEGE this weekend. I think the PS1 has the best startup of all time. I love the sound it makes.
The PS1 is the main console that I grew up with. Some games for people to check out that came out in Europe but not in the US, so many Americans probably don't know about them yet:
- Agent Armstrong (pretty decent sidescrolling shooter)
- Firo & Klawd (isometric shooter that can be played in coop)
- Wing Over (air combat competition game)
Reggie and Metal Jesus last PS1 video had me revisiting retro game stores trying to pick up the games I had when I was younger. Just picked up Tenchu 2 and Tekken 3 which were always on in my household. Thanks Reggie and Metal Jesus!
Man, this video was such a good way to spend 27 minutes. So much nostalgia! The first PlayStation was indeed a memorable console with so many amazing games. I wonder how we survived on those 15 block expensive memory cards lol. I remember the nightmare of deleting a save file to make way for a new game.
Thanks for this video! Make more!
I was just planning to buy a ps one this week 😂 perfect timing for this video
WTF, no fist bump in the intro!!
Those are mostly for the Game Pickups videos. 🤜 💥 🤛🏾
Love these! Hope we get ps2 next 😊
Awesome video! One of the best videogame systems of all time. Greetings from México.
Metal Jesus thank you for your channel man. Always brings me memories of Video games fantasy nostalgia. I hope you grow to 1 million this year!
Man, the PSone was my birthday present I love that thing so much! So many gaming memories playing Strider, Soul-Blade and Grandia 1!
I actually was digging in my closet to clean stuff out the other day and came across the tiny version with the portable screen connected ( and working !! ) all the games I have are scratched to heck & back however it’s pretty sick to have found it.
Some love for Disruptor ! My first game on the system, iconic cut scenes and gameplay!
I thank you for making fun videos.
The PS1 also had a VCD player add-on peripheral that relied on the parallel port.
Future Cop: LAPD and Omega Boost were games I played as a kid. Omega Boost in particular really caught my eye during my period of infatuation with mech games.
It's an on-rails shooter not dissimilar to something like Star Fox 64. It can get a bit harder towards the later sections of the game, though, so you have to either be pretty good, cheat or just be patient and keep trying. I never beat it when I was younger, always got stuck on this one level with a giant station or something that shoots at you.
I've always meant to revisit it, but am only really getting around to playing older games again with my RG35XX Plus. Hoping to get in the mood for it soon enough. Save states should help if I start to fall behind.
If I recall, Disruptor was the game Insomniac Games made right before making Spyro the Dragon, one of my all-time favorite games that I played as a child. I've never really given Disruptor any of my attention, but I might check it out sometime if I'm in the mood for an old-school shooter.
Martian Gothic: Unification was covered by Ross (Accursed Farms), so if you're unable to get into it, I highly recommend checking out that video as an alternative or after you finish the game. It's always interesting to hear him talk about these older games I'd probably never play myself.
Devil Dice is a really great puzzle game that I always recommend. Great with a friend and the separate puzzles are an added bonus.
I've been away for years but every time there's a Reggie and a PS1 or playstation hidden gems I'm always watching thanks for posting this although it might be too short! lol
The original PS1 got me into video games with Tekken3 and FFVIII (without a memory card!). I had it for over 6 years and the capacitors never failed
Old consoles are surprisingly tough. My N64 and SNES still work perfectly, had both since I was a kid. I'm 30 now lol
@@SolidSnake240 depends how u take care of it.
If you like the Rollcage games, I would also recommend Firebugs, which started as Rollcage 3 but was rebranded and made a bit more kid friendly. It's still cool though.
And Grip on the PS4/Xbox/PC which is from the same developers but just updated for modern systems! czcams.com/video/81UOQMNA_BY/video.html
Great video guys. I'm glad to see you still excited and enjoying the PlayStation. I started collecting for ps1 when it was new. So many good games for the console. When my game collection for ps1 was stolen i thought id never own those games i loved again. When i found a emulation device that comes plug and play with 697 ps1 games i immediately bought it. The super console x saved me thousands of dollars in games. I'm thankful for emulation and can be a good option for those who cant afford the disc version of all the good games. Thanks guys
Happy Friday!!!
That "pocket sky" is great 😂!
I'm using the PS Classic to try out games I missed during that great generation. Future Cop LAPD is one of them, thank you for the other suggestions.
PS1 is my favorite system of all time. Going for a full NTSC set has been a fun ride for sure! I’ve discovered many games that I never knew existed and have enjoyed getting to play! Definitely have to recommend 2 games published by Altus that don’t get enough love: Thousand Arms and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure! Great video!
Nice video. That's an interesting screen Reggie has connected to the PSone. Haven't seen one like that. I own the original Sony one and that InterAct one that you sort of criticized, but I gotta say it's actually pretty good with very impressive sounding speakers and great A/V settings and connectors. Those screens were so cool. Too bad they don't make attachable screens for consoles anymore.
This is a system i have never really got into , will check these games out definitely. Superb system
its nice to see the ps1 getting some love thank you
N2O: a psychedelic tube shooter filed with all manners of insects with music by the Chemical Brothers.
Colony Wars: a space combat game with Starfox-like mission progression and voice-overs by one of the best James Earl Jones sound-a-likes I have ever heard.
I have fond memories of playing the Twisted Metal games on my PS1 back in the day, especially the 2nd game.
second one was the best.
Axle Power!
I was always a Mr. Grim guy myself. Fastest ride with a special that did the most damage.
Oh, man. I wasn't expecting this awesomeness today! Reggie + MJR + PS1 is 🔥.
