Emax Tinyhawk Axii antenna mod

  • I wasn't happy with the FPV video performance of my Emax Tinyhawk. I felt the i was getting a lot of multi path interference because of the dipole antenna that i comes with from the factory.
    i set out to replace the antenna with the new Luminer Axii micro antenna.
    This video is a little on the long side but it will cover the method that i used to remove and replace the stock antenna with the circular polarized one.
    This mod made a big difference for me. in the extremities of my house i had some sever breakup in my FPV feed. No my video is much better!

      I work with people who have training on how to solder and I catch them not covering thier tips when done. Then I see them with a file scraping off the oxidation a day later.

    Sure wish I had a Tiny hawk to start with. I would have learned to fly much cheaper. Its incredibly tough. The day I received it I flew 58 packs. Probably smacked a rock wall 10 to 15 x at almost full speed. Ill need a new frame in a week or two.but I haven't broken any props. Anyone looking to start out imo this is the best way. Its really hard to beat the Tiny hawk for speed.great handling and durability. Thanks for the videos.and I promise I don't work for e max. lol. Just a great little quad!

    Since we're dealing with high frequency RF signals here, it's important to avoid any sharp peaks from solder or shielding wires because even a few millimeter tip extra can behave as a poor antenna messing with your signal.

    great mod, thanks. I just got the tiny hawk 2. The video feed is horrible, simply horrible. I tried to fly it in my shop. There is a ton of room and it would be fun to fly there during the winter. However I got 15 feet away and the video was breaking up very badly. We light the shop with about 100, 8 foot 2 lamp fluorescent fixtures. Old lighting. I believe the ballasts that run the lights are causing this horrible interference. That said I did the switch to 200 milli watts on the video tx ,and have the video tx set to the fatshark band that my attitude v2s are on. I returned home and went outside, the reception was much better. I think flying at the shop is out due to the massive interference. I'll give this mod a try. Another issue, is, my quad (v2) comes with the motors soldered to the flight controller, not plugged in like the TH 1. Looks like I'll have to remove the props and the 4 motors from the frame to disassemble it. Thanks again.

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  Před 4 lety

And thanks in advance.

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  Před 4 lety

      Yea the 2 pack one would be extra. The only thing you need to pay attention to is if the antennas are rp-sma or sma. Google some images and make sure they match what your are connecting them to. The other thing is the polarization. If you run right hand circular polarization then make sure your goggles have the same. If you have a linear antenna like what's on a lot of micros you can run lhcp or rhcp it doesn't really matter then.

      Yea I did this to change from linear to rhcp. With a rhcp (or lhcp) it really helps. The nature of these quads is to fly indoors so there is usually a LOT over multipathing. The circular polarized antennas really help cut down on that. When we race indoor races the other people using the same goggles and recievers are shocked at how much better my fpv feed is.

And can't you do the same for all micro quads that have a dipole type antennas?

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  Před 3 lety +1

      Yea you can do that but it would require you to desolder the antenna from the board eveytime you took the frame off. That board is only going to survive a few heat cycles.

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  Před 5 lety

      Yes, you certainly could use the longer one. If your get a rhcp antenna on the tinyhawk, then any rhcp antenna on your goggles will work. If you have a diversity setup a rhcp patch antenna on the goggles would make the complete set.

    How is it better than a snapper 7?
    Thanks, Tweet

    • @TweetFPV
      @TweetFPV  Před 5 lety

      I have both the snapper 7 and the tinyhawk. I don't fly the snapper anymore. Reason being is the snapper is heavier and more destructive to its-self, my house, and "soft targets" with that aluminum frame. the tinyhawk is purpose built with each component being part of a "system" the snapper is just a bunch of parts, be it good parts. With that said, would i recommend buying the tiny hawk over the snapper 7... YES!! would i recommend buying a tinyhawk if you already have a snapper 7, possibly. the reason being for me because of the group of people i fly with and do indoor races with i don't want to mess up their houses when it comes to race day. The snapper 7 is just a bit more anit-socal than the tinyhawk..... Hopefully some of that makes sense.

    You would have much easier time to get the old solder away from the board with a wick. If you want even better results, get some high quality flux, too. Try watching some videos by Louis Rossmann to figure out how you should use the flux and wick to remove pretty much everything very fast.
