You are an ignorant, uneducated fool if you think they were able to fake that footage. Every reputable film maker and photographer, when asked if it could have been faked, said no. You also could NEVER keep a secret THAT big for over 50 years. There were over 400,000 people involved in the Apollo mission. The Soviets tracked the mission and conceded that they did go, and were among the first to congratulate them. The mission was picked up on satellites set up all over the world, in particular Australia. There are thousands of pages of transcripts that prove that they went. Moon rocks taken back were scientifically proven to be of lunar origin. They were filmed from take off in Florida to splashdown in the Pacific. If you actually think they could fake all of that, youre very small minded. There is tons of evidence they went, and every single myth or conspiracy theory has been debunked over and over again, from the Van Allen belts to the flag to the light sources to the shadows to the EVERYTHING.

I don't know if they actually got insurance, but they were definitely offered it. A document in the book "Missions to the Moon" outlines a policy, effective "from entry into the command module until release from quarantine," as well as another 100 days for "any disease which is endemic to the lunar surface."
At $50,000 per crew member, it is more likely insurance was difficult to secure due to the cost, not a lack of offers (insuring the first men on the Moon would be great publicity).

Surely, as NASA is a government agency, the astronauts' families would have gotten something akin to a military pension, had they died in the line of duty.

I am not sure Zack is right about this.
They were all U.S. Air Force officers so if they had died in active duty, the military would have paid their families a pension.
Except for "Dr. Rock", and I bet they made him an Officer by paperwork.

Wait.. the government didn’t give them life insurance? I’m fairly certain they didn’t need private life insurance technically. Obviously it’s better to have more than less..
