Because I create and use a lot of texture, I mostly use the palette knife and bowl scraper to apply paint. I will use a small brush to apply oil+cold wax+gamsol (thinner mix) to paint small area like eyes, nostrils, etc. You can use a brush with the cold wax+oils but it just doesn’t go on the same as applying it with a knife or scraper…less comes off the brush and I find it harder to control. But then, I was not, and am not, a traditional oil painter either. I’d say experiment and see what you like to use for the look and type of painting you are doing. 😊
Do you only ever use your pallet knife or do you sometimes use a brush?
