I didn’t realize it came out after PS2. That’s insane.
I picked up FFVIII and FFIX at the same time, and of the two FFVIII stood out to me most and I struggled to get into IX. Then, after letting a friend borrow IX for a while and him showing me some of the cool stuff later in the game it got me really interested to get it back from him and try again, and I did, and absolutely fell in love the second time around. So excited for the remake!
Back in the day when upgrading your console was mind-blowing. Playing FF IX on PS 1 made loading screens very annoying, but playing it on PS 2 made it a smooth experience. Regarding remaking FF IX, I don't want more remakes, my trust is depleted. I haven't replayed FF IX in forever, but melodies of life is still something that enters my mind.

I'll get hyped for a Remake if they ever actually announce it. The only reason I haven't completely written it off is because Square-Enix has never said that they weren't working on it.
IX has been one of my favorite FFs since it's original release. It was a fun world with a colorful cast of characters. And those FMV cutscenes were able to convey so much without a single word being uttered.
I really hope there is a remake and that it successfully captures what made the original so great.
For me I didn't realize they announced IX and X at the same time. Had no idea it was so close. I remember getting 9 and it was the first FF I was able to beat without help or cheats and I didn't get to experience 7 and 8 when they first came out. I was actually showed those games by a friend and would borrow her copies. In those days I was on the internet whenever I could be but as a 11 or 12 year old at the time, I didn't see the FFX Beta video until almost 2 decades later probably.
I remember the summer after playing FF9. My cousin got the soundtrack to it. Going camping with some friends,hotbox smoking in the car in hot weather,blasting Quina's theme remix and losing our shiiz over it... fun times.
Right up there with 7 as my favorite FF in the series. I absolutely love 9 and its characters.
FF10 was my first play and I loved it. I didn't play 9 until some time later but felt it was a great story. From the duel in the opening sequence, It, and its score, really stuck with me. I am looking forward to a remake. (But also hope they keep ATB classic.)

Great video, this makes a lot of sense why so many FF fans always called it underrated. Had no idea it was overshadowed in this way. Especially since a lot of issues with the PS1 version of 9 came down to technical issues, so no wonder FFX and the PS2 were more enticing to a lot of people.

the story and characters are not my favorites but man is it a fun game. Just the loot alone gets you hooked like crazy.
My only request is that the models look exactly like high definition versions of the original's FMVs. Everything else they can handle however they please.
IX was my second game, but Vivi remains #1 in my top 3(Rikku and Vanille, if youre curious). VIII was my first but im also much more on board for an IX remake. The story particularly disc 4, could use a bit of fleshing out. However, i find myself torn between wanting turnbased to return for nostalgia reasons and wanting to see what they could make happen if that limit was removed. Like how in Dissidia, Zidane was a midair FIEND. With how Cloud, Yuffie, and Tifa work in Rebirth, theyve definitely shown they can make some good midair stuff, and Aeriths normal attack reminds me a bit of racket attack animations from IX. Id really like to see Vivi and Quina be able to combo like that, just as much as i want to see the good old turn based come back, and its sad because ill be so happy and sad at the same time. But then again, thats how the game made me feel when i played it the first time, so itll come full circle 😂

@@FinalFanTV ahh I see, damn algorithm, hope it gets better once the IX announcement happens. I do love IX, in my top 3 FF (VII -> X -> IX) and probably due to nostalgia that I cannot pinpoint, I found about FF when IX was already out, but my first FF was VII, so IX filled that void that VII left when I finished it. At the time I played them, I didn't understand English, so my brain just made up the story as I played with these charming characters, captured by amazing graphics and music. I've replayed it a couple of times but right now I'm debating whether to replay it again or just wait for the remake/remaster.

Is refreshing to hear a good positive opinion about FF9, It truly deserves a better shot.
FF9 allowed last gen hardware to overshadow the Dreamcast. It also sold more than double the best selling dreamcast game Sonic Adventure.
Had never thought about this from this perspective, also didn't remember this FFX announcement completely shadowing it. FF9 is among the best FFs games there with no doubts and your point makes even clearer that we need this remake!

We only need a 9 remake if they stay somewhat true to the original battle system. I don't want another damn action game calling itself an RPG
I have a legitimate question. Why do the ppl that truly don’t like ff7 Remake/Rebirth, lobby for ff9 remake or ff10 remake? Clearly they don’t like the remake project they are currently doing so why would you like them “remaking” ff9 etc. if ppl are just looking for a 1 for 1 of a game from 1997-2005 then that doesn’t make much sense to me. An artist wants to be an artist, not keep rehashing the same game over and over with 0 change. And that’s why I think they have created a literal masterpiece in ff7 remake saga. Still no one can pin point exactly what is going on. Which is why if they do remake those other games, they should implement the same game plan. If I want to play a 1 for 1 of ff9 I’ll just go play og ff9
I don't like the remake project, and thus don't lobby for a remake of FF IX. I cannot really understand your argument regarding doing remakes as I want people I know, and that includes the younger generation, to experience FF VII. Not an alternative modern Shakespearean 4th wall remake that wants you to have liked FF VII for 20 years and consumed all of the expanded stuff. Remakes have value when not done as FF VII remake. A 1:1 for you has a very different meaning than for others and people seemingly can't understand the difference between little, somewhat, or large changes and only argue about superficial stuff in the end. There are people that want a remake of FF IX that might not seem like a remake to you, yet still not fall into a 1:1 or your version of how remakes should be done.
All and every change is not good, I hope we can agree on that at least. Everyone's tolerance for change is different so, maybe, just maybe, wherever yours is will be crossed with part 3 of the remake saga instead without the need for blindly following something like a moth to a fire.
FF IX would also lack the "mystery" aspect of the remake saga as it would be a complete game. In 5 years time, when remake saga is done, the argument is forever lost and your kids and the newer generation will not understand why there was ever a need to have theories as they just blast through all installations in one go.
Not sure if you're directing this at me or just in general but for me, I do like the FF7R project. I think it is an excellent remake of the original game's gameplay, audio, and visuals but I personally struggle with the direction of the story. I love some of the changes such as Chapter 4 of Rebirth as the best example. Rufus ceremony and Yuffie's introduction was amazing. Not a fan of the worlds merging / Zack stuff. At least not yet. Looking forward to Part 3 for all the to come together. But okay, with that said, I sigh everytime someone says "you want a 1:1 remake". With what I mentioned above, that just isn't the case. So for a FF9 Remake, I'd love for them to flesh out characters such as Amarant who I felt was not worthy of being a playable party member in the original. I'd love to see certain moments expanded upon in a remake such as Rebirth has done with most of FF7's scenario. As far as combat, I said at the end of the video that I think ATB fits FF9 perfectly as the core of FF9 is to pay homage to classic Final Fantasy. 7R's combat is a perfect hybrid and honestly the best combat system in not only FF series but in all of video games. So, if FF8 or even FF10 were to be remade one day, I would enjoy them using a modified version of 7R's combat.

People want it remade like they did with star ocean 2... the ff7 remakes suck same dumb action rpg crap as almost every other "modern rpg" and they wonder why ff7 remake and 16 are selling like crap the people who grew up playing all the FF games want turn based

For me, FFVII was the game (along with Tekken 3 and MGS) that made me a gamer. FFVIII opening movie has the most jaw-dropping opening cinematics ever and a great game even if it had major flaws.
FFIX… I hated the charracters, example the knight dude was clueless, a comedic relief that I despice. Other charracters were weak also.. I did not anyone of the charracters. I played it trough just becouse it was a FF.
But oh well, the masterpieces are FFVII, FFVI and FFVIII (and FFVII remake/Rebirth)
I can respect your opinions on IX. To be honest, it didn't click with me before either. My recent playthrough really hit! My top tier rankings changed! Maybe give it another chance with the Memoria Mod Manager or hopefully you will enjoy the remake!

Maybe if it is remade Ill clear my mind and try to see it in a different angle and see if I change my mind.

That's fair. It does open up some near the end but perhaps that's something that can be improved in a remake!

I don't care what anyone says... 8 is awful and incredibly boring. I know... I just spent 38 hours on the Platinum. And now that I've sparked a franchise war in the comments, I'll just say that FF9 really does deserve the remake. If they remade 8, I'd want more of a 7 style remake, but with 9, I think a Memoria Project style. Largely 1-to-1, but give it some awesome quality of life updates would be perfection.

I do completely agree with you about combat systems for a remake of 8 and 9. As I mentioned in the video, just feels right for 9 to pay homage to classic Final Fantasy as that's kind of at the core of what makes FF9, FF9.
I'd LOVE the remake to be like Memoria Project! That world fits perfectly with Unreal Engine 5!
