Antonio was sad in the 1st scene but it didn't quite explain why he was sad.
i was thinking that did Solinario and Salanino is right that he's indeed in love with someone? If so, the cause of his sadness is about Bassanio getting married to Portia? So does Antonio really did have a happy ending?
But when Antonio was sad at the beginning of the play he didnât know about Bassanioâs hopes of marrying Portia yet.

He is a victim of the brutality of the society he is living in. And these sooo called Christians prejudice
The tragedy is actually when shylock is forced to convert to Christianity and abandon his own religion.
