At 2.4 million it's cheap compared to SF Bay Area real estate prices.
That's "cheapness" is before you include taxes.
why complain about SF prices? you can buy a perfectly fine spacious closet or parking space (one or other, not both) for 2.4M. Of course, the HOA and property tax will be a killer + coming wealth tax. Anyone know how property taxes work in France?

THAT is France for you.
Castles never fetch much money. Especially when they are listed. In the UK, if your building is listed you can prepare to put your money in the garbage. The "so-called" historical department would rather you burn it to the ground that allow you to have anything modern inside, or even a non-approved color. There have been countless buildings which fell to ruin because they were unwilling to bend on their extremist views.
Also, castles are amazing expensive to maintain. You can expect your yearly costs for such a building to well exceed 100k per year. New roof? Just the scaffolding will set you back 70k.
Until you plough at least another 10 into it
Imagine misplacing your keys in THAT.
It doesn't come with keys. It comes with an army of sentries, two of whom stand guard at the bridge and quiz visitors with riddles. Duh. Unless, of course, you're referencing the keys to the dungeon... in which case I feel you. SUCH a bummer when you can't find those.
@@shannmcghee You may be mixing that up with sphinxes, and who can afford one of those in these troubled times? Castle guards are the ones that are supposed to stare straight ahead while the unwanted visitors scale the walls and line up in single file to be dispatched by single blows after being called in by the surprised castle owner.

I once lived in a huge and old appartment with some friends, but it was to big and the ceilings too high, so that we could afford to warm it up properly at wintertime here in the north Europe. It was always kind of cold, a real eye opener. The small, warm and cozy appartments I lived in after that experience really made me appreciate them much more. WOWzers. It is so hard to image living in such an immense structure. Mmmmm so cozy. Although the landscaping is faaaabulous.
Does it come furnished? And about how many spirits make the rounds on an average night? Lol
I'm a senior citizen. The reference you made to spirit is nothing to laugh about. It's not ghost of dead people. It's something else entirely and best left alone or dealt with. There is nothing to be gained by entering in that world and is dangerous and foolish. I had a psychology professor who I became friends with. He had a house once that was very active and still was perplexed years later by what he witnessed. He still had problems dealing with that reality. All you can do is file it away and avoid it, there is no solution. Whatever it is, it's not nice or beneficial.

I wish I could own something like this. I’d make part of it a living museum.
This is a nice one. The moats are “Dry” but definitely built for water originally. The stone work, masonry, is great on this place. I’ve gotta ask though. Are there now just too many properties like this that people thought would draw many guests for lodging? I think there’s just too many properties now days. Then minimum requirements expected now days such as swimming pool, tennis courts, chapel, orchards, gardens, chef prepared menus. Fierce competition. But such gorgeous places for sure.
The property and its amenities are not the issue, it is the taxes and the maintenance cost that will kill you!
Funny, since Dick and Angel went and bought one for £250k the prices shot up as the French eyed the English money and thirst for second homes that the locals didn’t want. Now after Brexit and seeing how the French really are toward British there are hundreds of UK owned properties for sale at knock down prices. Same in Spain, Italy .........
You don't need water. I'll fill the moat with peasants.

Magnificent. I’d love it. Hold on, the purchase price is just one part. Why are the current owners selling it? What are the maintenance costs? What are the property taxes? What are the income and social security taxes? Maybe, we could afford to buy it but not to keep it or live in it.
Kind of like buying a cheap super car. Entry price is affordable but the upkeep will kill your wallet.

@@normsimpson2342 this quote is bull. Most of people I know (including my husband and I) can afford a place like this. Still we want to know how much it will cost and all costs attached. Spending wisely is the reason why we have money.
Actually this castle costs half of the price of my single girl’s house on the lake of Zurich where I made a home tour some years ago here on my YT channel, years before meeting my husband, bought it when I was 25. So, don’t believe that quote: who can afford REALLY wants to know the costs too.

The word "listed" should be enough to send any potential buyer running as far away from it as fast as possible,no matter how much a bargain it might be.
What does listed mean?
@@therickman1990 Listed means that it is on a register of historical and significant buildings which from the potential purchasers point of view usually mean that you can't alter the building in any way other than restore it the way it was built originally, using as much of the original material as possible. It actually mean some commitee will tell you this is how you have to fix your house and you can't do it any other way and that means ultimately $$$$$. So no such thing as a "listed" bargain.
I used to work in solar power and whenever a client with an "historic" home inquired about cost to put panels on their roof, we knew to add six months to the lead time and a zero to the cost for all the permits.
Quite the opposite, to the discerning that'd be an attraction.
Some years ago, when I had money, I had inscribed myself with a specialised castle real-estate broker in France. I was absolutely taken aback that they had new castles and manors for sale EACH week. Apparently, France is literally littered with them which is surprising, given the enormous amounts of war the French tend to wager internally. The problem with these castles and mansions is that it takes millions to restore and the French have no National Heritage as a back-up. They do not care for their history.
Similar to the Spanish - it’s really the Brits that love to save old buildings regardless of cost!
@Rachelle Roberthon Favaloro We all know that French is destined to be a dead language:
czcams.com/video/pwODwwgE6rA/video.html
@Dindon Farci Right. thanks. Does France has a fund like National Heritage? I read about a family where the parents and the kids each buy castles for a song and then restore them to sell, as a business.
THAT WOULD BE MY DREAM KITCHEN!
i like how this is some kind of middle thing between castle and palace
Seems like it would be drafty.

I'm surprised the moat is so shallow. I thought they were always much deeper.
Not in this case. The château was finalized in the XVIth century. At this time, deep moat had already gone out of style. Châteaux were not as defensive as they used to be two or three centuries ago.
For those bemoaning that the moat is dry, I can tell you that having a filled moat is a real pain in the butt. They need regular maintenance otherwise they become stagnant and very smelly. They also attract the worst sorts of flying, biting insects. And they can cause damp problems in the building. Then there are the insurance and safety issues...
Teaser! Three rooms out of dozens? I need to see it all!
