    Water? What kind of water, tap water, mineral water, distilled water?
    I used to use tap water on my monitor and it leaves some streaks than can be seen on dark scenes of games.
    Now using a 50-50 alcohol and distilled water and it doesn't leave streaks anymore... but am I going to hurt my monitor by using alcohol solution on it?

    • @daniel.pendzich
      @daniel.pendzich Před 10 lety +17

      I've been using alcohol to clean all my electronics and screens for the past 5 years and have never had an issue and I'm really picky about keeping my screen crystal clear. I think it's fine, although I don't have any research to back that up other than personal experience.

    • @12x8u
      @12x8u Před 10 lety +7

      Water doesn't work for me. It's always leaving streaks.
      I use lots of 70% Alcohol and a micro fibre cloth. Never had any problems with the anti glare coating of my Samsung TFTs. Only the plastic bezel may get some grey shadows but as long as it doesn't completely dissolve, I don't care.

    • @DeFXX10
      @DeFXX10 Před 10 lety +2

      Distilled water is best but I find that a 1/3 mix of alcohol and distilled gets me good results. I also use a small spray bottle so I don't have to make up the solution to often.

      Alcohol is fine. DON'T USE AMMONIA! That is what is in windex.
      Basically the rule is, in electronics, never use ammonia. The main reason for that is it dissolves alkali metals and becomes quite conductive.
      Since anti-glare screens are typically a chemical coating of magnesium fluoride, and magnesium is an alkaline metal, you can see the problem here.
