I have the same machine. Just arrived yesterday. I put in 32 GB of RAM from OWC and went with the 1 TB SSD. Blazing fast machine. It replaces an Early 2008 Octo-Core 2.8 Mac Pro and cleans its clock in every way.

Susazeu The max MacBook specs are slower then the iMac. That's reason enough to go with the iMac. Plus if you need to change locations you could consider a Pelican case and cart your iMac around with you.
This is the thing about they know it's not going to be enough storage and power for a lap top designed for professionals they want you to upgrade so they can rape your wallet.

Riley Kalman I have an i7 5k iMac on the way and have been using a hackintosh for a couple of years and the main reason I’m getting the iMac is no more broken OS with every security update but also an insane screen and totally self-contained system.
What do you do with your iMac? I’m just now learning Final Cut Pro (from the Apple store ;-), and WireCast is the beast which needs a lot of resources. I’m not a techie so this iMac purchase was challenging, just trying to get what I need to do what I want to do without going crazy with the cost. Thanks for your input.
I just thought about how crazy it is that we're now at a time where 64 gigs of RAM is a thing in consumer products. Back when I got my first computer, that's about how much hard-drive storage I had and I remember upgrading my RAM from 256MB to 512MB.

I have one almost exactly like this, with the 4.2Gz I7 processor and 2 Tb Fusion Drive, but got it as a refurbished model from Apple in January 2018, and saved big bucks. I run it with 48 Gigs of ram, having added 32 gigs to the 16 Gigs it came with. It is everything you said it was, and I am very pleased with it. If you hook up a true NVMe Thunderbolt 3 SSD drive to it, it reads and writes like a scalded cat. With higher speed drives, the shorter cables typically provided by the manufacturer usually result in higher read/write speeds and more reliable operation of the drive. There is a platform device you can add to the stand of your iMac to hold 2 small external drives with short cables - it is the Twelve South Backpack for iMacs sold by Amazon for about $43.50 plus sales tax, and using it gets rid of the need for longer cables and eliminates the clutter from having external drives & cables stored in the desk area behind your iMac. The platform is made of perforated metal to help keep the SSDs cooler.

It may be better to get a the 512Gb PCI-E SSD than the 3Tb Fusion Drive. 5K seem to be more benefit for Photoshop than Adobe Premiere. Video editing need many tool bars that use out one monitor space and the second monitor to view the video.
Just got mine about a week ago, hands down the best computer I've ever had/used. Had the phones, tablets, laptops & window desktops. Nothing compares. This thing blows me away how simple and easy it is to use. Well worth the $.
The screen is not very wide. Looks more 4:3. Now if that computer screen breaks, you have to send the whole computer back. But if a PC monitor breaks, buy a new one, PC doesn't go anywhere. Plus I can fix my PC if that fails don't need to send it back. The Apple iMac is neat and powerful yes I like it, but very over priced. You can build a very powerful PC for far less money with double that RAM 64GB and an 8 core CPU and still have money left for a new TV.

It serves a practical purpose for content creation and other tasks where you don't want distractions. It separates the content on screen from whatever is behind it making it easier to focus on what you're doing and reduces eye strain. I use a 2013 27" iMac and a 27" Dell UP2716D. The Dell display is technically superior in pretty much every way in terms of colour accuracy and the like, but the insanely thin bezels mean I don't like using it for actually working on, it's harder to focus and I get eye strain. I don't get nearly as much strain when using the iMac display despite it being on the exact same background that causes the distractions on the Dell. I can simply use the iMac display longer than the Dell display before I need to take a break. Now, for things like gaming and shit then bezels suck, but for productive stuff like design work they're actually useful.
So, you didn't bother to read what I put? Fair enough. I take it you don't actually use your computer to do productive tasks to make your living. Little things like this are important.

Picked up this model yesterday, nice price drop since 2 years ago and a pretty big upgrade from my mid-2010 iMac (still running as I type. relatively new installed SSD, maxed out 16gb RAM) It's been a trusty workhorse for 9 years, I just felt time to upgrade. I haven't even unboxed it, set it up yet...I'll do that tonight after work. The big key was video editing, especially working w/ 4K now..jacking up the Ram will help greatly on this model. Video editing 4K, (sometimes even large HD 1920 files) is just VERY hard, sometimes painfully impossible for my 2010 to handle.

well, the imac pro comes out in december. but thats not the normal imac, and will cost $5000... generally, apple releases new generations of the iMac every 2-3 years. And since they already released this year's model, we can expect an update in 2019/2020

the thinness of it probably limits how close to the edge the LCD can be as in there won't be enough room for it at the very edge

I got the same 2017 Fusion Drive iMac with the standard specs but I've bought and installed 64GB of RAM. It's an awesome machine. So efficient.
