- Deck for a Stock Tank Pool Tutorial: • Making a Deck for a St...
This video is everything you need to get started with making your own stock tank pool for this scorching hot summer!
The basic steps for setting up your galvanized metal stock tank pool are:
Step 1:
Level the ground and set the pool in a desirable location.
Step 2:
Cut a 2 3/4" hole near the bottom side of the tank.
Cut a 2 3/4" hole near the top side of the tank.
Slip the intake filer into the bottom hole, and the outtake (or jet) into the top hole and screw them on.
Step 3:
Apply caulk around the intake and outtake
Step 4:
Screw on the plunger valves. These valves are so you can remove the pool pump filter without having a ton of water drain out.
Then screw one end of each hose onto these plunger valves.
Step 5:
Screw the intake hose onto the intake side of the pump (the shorter canister)
Screw the outtake hose onto the outtake side of the pump (the taller round canister)
Step 6:
Fill the pool up with water, turn on the pump, and have an amazing time swimming around and staying cool in the summer.
The tank I got was 8' and it can easily fit 2 floating rafts and a baby raft for our little baby.

🔥DISCLAIMER: Do *not* jump off your roof into a pool this shallow. This was a *video effect*, not an actual jump.
Thank you to everyone that was concerned 😀 & *THANK YOU* for all the support and for subscribing! 👍
My channel was new when this video came out with few views, so didn't even think to note a warning in the video.
Ah, the idiot clause...
@@robseibertgulfcoastrealest3243 Thank goodness
A warning oh yeah there are a lot of very, very stupid people out there.
@@robseibertgulfcoastrealest3243 haha yep... unfortunately
My cousin was paralyzed because of a stunt like this. I hope you will consider modifying or deleting this video.
How to make a stock tank pool:
Step 1: Purchase stock tank
Step 2: Done
You forgot one very important step.. fill it up with water...🤔
This would be good for raising fish too ! Time to cook.
This dude over thought it. Over spent
Couldn't imagine cleaning this thing out every week and the amount of mosquitoes with that method! Good luck 😉
This was my pool as a kid. It would get dirty, we'd drain it off, tilt it over, hose it down and refill! Much better than the flimsy ones you buy for $400! Thanks for the reminder! I'm going to save up for one of these for next summer.
That would be great, and probably help keep the pool water nice and cool by refreshing it. I'm in a little neighborhood unfortunately and draining that much water would have my neighbors screaming lol
Sorry, I recommend caulking the connections before installing. The bead of caulking on the backside will ooze out, indicating the gap is full, then smooth off the rest in a nice bead.
nice one. doesn't look all that complicated. Also your son is a sweetheart.
I put 3/4 inch foam pipe insulation around the top today, works great , and stays on. A lot more comfortable to lean back against.
Hey Kelly. I followed your build. Only different was our local tractor supply only had 10 ft rounds in stock. Family loves the pool. Thanks for the video.
My wife and I want to thank you for the very informative video. It made our project become a reality. Thank you
Don & Beth, Florida.
No problem! I'm glad it worked out for y'all and thank you for letting me know that I've helped! 😁
This video was a ton of fun to watch, the three of you make a great team! Your camera angles and special effects are awesome! I counted at least four takes for your "diving" into the pool from the roof!". Extra points for Mrs Bat City Designs for the epic thumbs up and tongue out after pushing you in and double points for your adorable son at the end of the video! Great job as always!
Why'd you put quotes around my "real" dive into the pool? 😉. I appreciate all the nice words Mr & Mrs Poor Man!
"All by myself" as 3 people carry the pool 😅 good video tho 👌
Thought I'm the only witnessed lol
Right
Its called "SARCASM"
Entitled !! Lol 😂
Before the water, You should have drilled your holes first because of metal fillings, then use a file for sharp edges. Before you install your gaskets, put some silicone around the holes first. Don't jump off the roof, you could break your neck.
Now this is my kind of summer DIY! Love the graphics throughout the edit - nice touch!
I appreciate it! Thank you. The edits on this video took longer than any other video so far lol.
Bat City Designs Totally worth it. 😉💦
Shawn...that is AWESOME!!! I think that's your best video and project yet!
Thank man! It took the most time too so I'm glad it all worked out!
I have to agree. Great build video. Enjoy.
I triple agree to this statement!
I'm so doing this! Thank you for making this video!
This pool has been a life changer! So glad we are done with it
Thanks for helping 😁
Time to build one now that summer 2021 is here!
I thought this was going to be a video about filling a tub with a hose. But you actually made a pool, lol.
Lovely family and cool pool! I hope it keeps you nice and cool for the rest of the summer
Thanks man! You'll need one to turn into a hot tub up there in the arctic 😂
@@KellyConcepts soo true! 🍻
Guys did a great job also fun to watch :) Thankyou for the tips 😃😎
Thank you for checking it out!
Awesome Weekend Project !!!!
Thank you
Have fun!
That was so easy ......looking!! Have fun!!!
What a cute baby boy!
He gets cuter every day! 😄
Think this will make a great pond setup 👌 thanks for the idea 💡
lol good idea! The plastic ones would be good for in the ground and cheaper
Great build video, very nice editing too! 👍
Thanks for watching!
I did one of these years ago with a Polly tank. Way better than a full size pool. I also decked it and have a solar heater
That's awesome, how long does it take for the solar to heat it up? I would love to get this heated for the winters. I did end up making a deck which was a game changer.
long time ago I got one for 15 bucks someone was selling when I lived in FL. It kept the water cool too and had drain at bottom.
. No no to me like
7:54 awesome build. Looks so fun
Nice! It's a good thing you trimmed that tree so you don't get as many leaves.
Haha very true! It's nice to have SOME sun now back here in this shaded yard.
Cool idea (literally 😂) thanks for sharing!!
haha thanks man!
@@KellyConcepts I so luv this and great way to kool down on hot day thank you .
That's awesome!! very creative
Thank you!
Very cool great idea for my cabin home!
Thanks and yea definitely! Especially if you could find a way to heat it up if you have a cold climate cabin.
Beautiful job!
Thank you!
Get the bath tub sized plastic one (80$tsc). No rust. Easily stored. No pumps needed. Get one for every member of the family.
Star of the show was the little one. Great work. Thought about doing the same, but I've got too many critters, and insects in our area.
The insects would love a pool of their own, you should make 2! 😂
Una verdadera lata de aceitunas gigante !
0:52 finally some good eye candy. Great video, though.
Wow! This is awesome!! Your little baby boy is so cute!
Thank you so much! 😁
Yes! Been wanting to do one of these for so long!
My wife and I have been doing this for years. It's about time everyone else caught up.
Haha for real! Wish I had done this sooner
@3:50 my favorite part of this video
I actually tried to find one of these here in Canada before the summer and could not fine one. I'm doing a bathroom reno watching tiling vids and this popped up....now I need to search again for one of these for next summer, this summer has been blazing hot wish I had one.
I'd imagine there would be plenty of these up North - theres so much livestock! Good luck for next year
Neat pool!👍❤️
Love it!
We had one of those when I was growing up in the 60s
😂😂 I have never heard of this until now !
Why not go at it again?! 😁
Same here. In the 60's, out on the farm.
Marisa Means they make great pools
We had one in St.Louis as a kid in the 70s.
Totally non-snarky comment here; pumps have inlets and outlets! Great job on the build!
Lol my bad! *Inlet *outlet
Nice! And so much fun after! Haha.
Thanks! Yes it is 😁
Great ideal 👍
Great hole-saw lesson right there. Never drill your pilot hole with the hole-saw attached. Gonna break almost every time. Was gonna get one of these for the dogs, but I love your idea as well.
Right on, I guess not enough of the drill bit is in the drill chuck to keep it stable when the hole saw is attached. Enjoy!
Love it! Anyone know what costs I'm dealing with?
Good buena idea
Thanks! 😄
very cool
thank you!
Many years ago I thought about this
Glad another is showing
Beautiful pool!! You should, however, paint it pretty blue on the inside so it looks more like a pool!
How's she goin'? Great project and much appreciated on the hot dog days of summer I bet!! Great idea too , using the stock tank. Happy splish - splashing buddy!!!
Yea it sure will help cool down! Using it every day so far. Thanks!
bravo
Your are the cool dad!
Calking seals better if between gaskets and walls. then smooth out what squishes out and adjust for looking nice.
I did end up putting some caulking in around the gasket as well - just didn't capture that on vid. The more caulking the better here! Someone mentioned plumbers putty for the gasket too
You need to make a video on how to build a stock tank pool and a very small one at that.
How much money was this in the end? Because I want to build one!
great idea just a heads up you can also get a salt water chlorine generator from Intex and it plugs inline with your pump and filter...
that would be awesome! Probably much better at actually mixing the chemicals around too.
Let's put salt water in a metal pool?
@@dzlf2504 it's a galvinized tub fool and there wouldn't be enough salt in the water to cause any issues....
@@JeffPuccetti I see people have no sense of humor any more. And making a pool out of a holding tank is gay now. We use to do that on the farm Years ago but now it's the cool hip thing to do. 👍😂
I bought the sale pump, how did you add the flat piece that goes below. Mine has a skinnier tupe than the piece above.
That is cool
Thank you! 😄
I got a 3ft wide tub thats 6 ft long.. (hot dog shaped) to make a hot tub. Its in the garage so no need for that filter issue, being that its in a controlled environment. Its going to be drained often like a Jacuzzi.
Thats awesome! I had originally considered something similar so it'd be easier to warm up. Enjoy!
@@KellyConcepts I got a fail happening. the smaller pump? it doesnt have that fastening nut that pulls the intake /outtake valves to the pool. I have an odd shaped intake port, that I was supposed to stick into a normal pool pvc that supposedly built into a pool, whatever size THAT is. so its important to just get yours if you dont want to run to the home depot. Yours also comes with that Air inlet hole. Mine has an additional part for that, which of course doesnt fith the inless tube itself. Its supposed to fit on that build in piece of pvc in a pool
Super pool
Great idea and CUTE KID!!!!!
Thanks Wesley! 😄
I would like one of the TALL narrow ..long ones.... with a "seat" in the bottom... like a tall bathtub in shape if you will... less foot space taken up..... adequate cooling
Shipping container pools-videos posted.
Just did this yesterday how much chlorine are you using?? I have the 3in tablets do I need to put shock in it? Not sure what to do. Thanks
I just use 1 3inch chlorine tablet, once it runs out I pop in another tablet. Just don't let the tablet sit on the metal, get a floater. I haven't used shock but may consider it every Spring moving forward to clean up the winter gunk. Or drain the pool.
Where do you get the plunger valves.
Very very nice can’t wait to try this. By the way what kind of background music do you have playing at the beginning of the video I really like it?
I get all my music from the Audio Library on a CZcams channel. Its all copyright free which is cool. Not sure the exact name of that song anymore 🤔
any rusting or other issues? i'm going to build one and am trying to decide between the galvanized (better looking) and the poly (won't rust)
I've had no rust issues so far. If I were to start seeing some, I'd just drain it and coat it with a rust preventor but hopefully that doesn't happen! Also, be sure to keep the chlorine tablets off the metal.
Clever
Do you have to build a fence around your pool? Where I am you have to have a 4 foot fence enclosing the pool and an automatic locking gate. Unless the pool walls are 4 ft high already.
This is in a neighborhood where every yard has a 6ft picket fence. But I would probably get a fence if I didn't have one just for liability.
@@KellyConcepts We need to have a pool fence regardless if you have a fence around your property (so 2 fences). At least 4 feet high with automatic locking gate around the pool.
Where did you buy the intake and outtake as well as the plunger valves?
I have them linked in the video description. The links should be working, although Covid has made some of the Amazon buying harder.
Hey dude I bought one of those 2 years ago, thru eBay,mine is 375gal,i only been in it once.that was last year.i use the right tool like yours, the bits,it broke like yours,i,m like Wow!!, that was weird.🤣😆,I went to home Depot so they can show me how too replace it, cause I didn't see on your video how to replace a new one.so I asked the guy what did I need, & showed him parts of your video,he was like kool,& he was able too get the tools I needed.the only thing it need is another one of the round red blade, it only put the imprint on it, so I'll get those holes in there one way or the other,i,m anxiously want to get this project up & running.unless u have any ideas, cause I tried & tried ,push the drill w/ all my strength, bulg, Love yours it,s the Bom!!.i.!!!.that,s just the word for out of sight, but or ect ect.😄
Hey there - We have the same corrugated-style tank and followed a very similar method for installation. We’re seeing small amounts of water seeping through the bottom seam (app. 1 month of usage). Can only tell there’s a leak because of the damp ground around one corner of the tank. Is that something y’all have experienced?
Hey Justin! I haven't had that issue yet, however I have assumed that I would probably need to re-caulk every couple of years - especially after a cold winter. I LOADED up on clear caulking, the video doesn't really do it justice.
keep your little one safe
Does chlorine eat at the metal? Nice vid.
Will the pool rust ???
I'm thinking about getting one. LOOKS GREAT 🌊
Its galvanized metal meant for the outdoors and water so it shouldn't rust for several years. When it does begin rusting (about 5 years) I'll probably drain the water and paint or apply some liquid rubber to the jnside)
Very cool! What dimensions did you get? The 8footer?
Thank you! Yep, this is the 8ft one here. 8x2
Is there any reason you couldn't use the return line as a waterfall source? Also, I've heard that the chlorine shortens the life of the galvanized tank, how has your held up? Finally, any comments/advice for someone who's building one in the next 6 days? Thank for the video!
You could probably use it as a waterfall just fine, however I have mine in the water and pointing to the side so it helps "stir" the water in one direction so debris can be easily sucked up by the outlet.
If the chlorine is floating it should be fine, mine is still good but its only been a year.
I'd say the 1 thing to do different is get a pool cover that fits. I bought the one linked in my description and its extremely tight so I don't bother. This makes my filter dirty quicker although they're cheap and easy to swap out.
Thanks!!
What about maintenance? I’m adding a filtration system to my kids pool that holds about 300 gallons of water. Instead of emptying it and refilling it every two days I want to use the water longer. Besides chlorine, what other maintenance tricks do you use for a pool your size? Thanks!
I think the pool cover is our most important piece. This pool is under a tree so keeping leafs and bugs out is key. That and a net to capture dirt are the only methods I've been using.
@@KellyConcepts I would puta big plastic foot water basin so as you enter into the tub-- your feet is all washed off of dirt and debris...
which size pump do you have?and what extra parts do I need?
I have everything linked in the description, however, Intex has paused manufacturing so they could focus on Covid supplies... 😬
Beautiful, what a shame that we don't have this kind of tank here in France.😪😪 viva USA!!!
Thank you! They originally make these to feed horses so I wonder if they might sell them near a ranch or farm?
@@KellyConcepts i live in a country side in France and I never saw this aluminium one here but I will ask around. Thank you very much.
@@marciamariabressanelli7853 no problem, good luck! and thank you so much for checking this out.
That's cool man, I wonder if you can buy a small stick heater for it so you can then have a hottub in the winter.
That would be awesome! I've seen people run copper coils through a fire and back into the pool. We'll see what happens in a few months.
Smart, in an ungrounded, metal pool
@@jasonk3038 very smart idea. Considering it has nothing to do with electricity.
How about building a solar heater that uses the filter pump motor to circulate the water into the solar tubes.
BCT, I just got the tank and I’m going to order all the parts you listed. Are the parts listed and all the links still good to go? Any updates before I order?
I saw that the 12” inch pump is $30 cheaper. I’m not sure why the smaller pump is more expensive. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Hey Bill! Everything is still good to go and I've had quite a few comments with people doing theirs and it working.
My only update is to plan where you place the pump if you plan on building a deck. All of my components are really hard to access now.
The 10" pump is plenty powerful, but I do see the 12" is cheaper and then the 14" is way more. The 12" would be pretty nice - although I can see it being noisy and an eyesore.
Bat. Just got the intake and jet from amazon. Wrong parts. You don’t get what is pictured in their photo.
You get the jet, but I think they include that on the 12” filter/pump, not sure as I am still waiting on the pump.
You get two small intake nozzles. Not the larger intake, washer, and nut. I don’t know how I’ll be able to use the smaller parts. Don’t want to drill more holes.
@@pdivinagra I don't understand why the product isn't what it's supposed to be, but I see in the Amazon comments that people aren't getting the parts displayed on their page.
The pump will come with a jet, so there is the potential that you can unscrew the jet and put on the inlet strainer but I'm not positive there.
I did that last summer with a 6’ stock tank up on the deck.
Virtually kid proof stuck beach chairs in it then Made a circle out of 1/2” pvc around the bottom with holes drilled into the tube and connected a cheap air pump up for bubbles.
Badda bing....... hillbilly spa😉
Didn’t need a filter cuz the water will get used to water the trees and plants from a hose bib attached the the threaded drain. 🤙
In the winter you just empty turn it up on it side and roll it out of the way.
That sounds like an amazing setup! especially to have it up on a deck 👍
Nice work! How about a link to the pump and valves?
Thank you! I have them in the description, but Intex has paused manufacturing to focus on covid supplies this summer... sorry!
interesting, Any way to cool down on a hot day.
Do you have to empty and store it through the winter??
I didnt this past winter, but it probably would've been easier if I did empty it. In the future I will
This is a great idea! Do you really need to use chlorine tablets though or will the pump keep things clean?
You need chlorine unless you don't mind emptying it out and replacing the water every once in a while. This was in a subdivision so I couldn't dump the water in my tiny backyard very much.
its rusted as you started, why didn't you get the plastic one? i had the 300g for a fish tank and rusted quick
The orange when I flip the tank is dirt and just the nastiness from having it sitting upside down in my yard for a couple months. Spiders and bugs made their homes in there. Plastic pools hurt home value and don't look as good.
Awesome idea. Water would probably get too hot in my yard
It will get a little warm, but still somewhat refreshing most of the year. A couple bags of 20lb ice may be needed here and there but I haven't needed it in Austin, TX
Any ideas on how to turn this into a hot tub? 🔥
I think that would be awesome!
Please consider subscribing.
Bat City Designs you can build a roof water solar heater easily. I’ve seen some videos on CZcams.
@@briannhinton that would be amazing, I'll look into it. I've seen some with copper coils and a fireplace but seems like a lot of work making a fire each time.
Bat City Designs one I’ve been investigating is building a makeshift no tank heater. Two heat immersion elements, and pump the water through them.
I'm thinking if it sits in full sun long enough, it'll turn into one on its own? ;) But, that'd only work in the summer....
Two 4500 hot water heating elements drilled about a 1/3 of the way up the tank will have you all set.
Did the come come with Inlet and outlet pieces ?
Hey! The pump did not, but I have the additional parts in my video description. The inlet/outlet is amzn.to/2H7uZ9M
Thanks!
Good idea. I bought one with a low hose fitting so I could drain it on the lawn when the water got dirty than I would have to clean and refill before jump off the roof. I like your idea the filter looks like a better way of saving water.
I want one....
would you mind terribly setting up 4me???
You can use plumbers putty(the stuff used on your sink drain) instead of silicon caulking. I think it seals better just my two cents
👍👍from this guy on the build
Great tip. The putty would probably work really great around the base of the drains near the cut out. So much caulking went back there...
What size tube did you use?
The little baby in the end stole the whole show
He always does! 😄
Wooow👌👏
