So if I recall, I believe the explanation of what caused Papyrus to turn into that monster was the combination of Determination and Papyrus not being strong enough to handle the power of the 6 Human Souls.
Yeah, determination alone is too much for some monsters, so adding the 6 other souls on top of that, yeah not good for life

This is why alphys melted using a determination syringe in one fangame Merg played

I love how merg is so caring towards every little thing in this fangame. He doesn’t want to kill Toby dog, he doesn’t want to shoot the souls, and he just wants to bounce around with his friends!

It was so much all together. The souls. The determination. All the power from killing everyone (which i assuke is what happened. Dusttale but with papyrus instead) it resulted in what i can only assume to be a total universal collapse, the yniverse struggling to render what papyrus turned into because of it all and just bugging out horrendously. Then he even melts afterhand. Horrific. But oh so poignant!

The determination was so strong, that Papyrus couldn't handle it. His mind started literally melting inside, that's why there's so much strange.. things? idk how to call it. At the end, as the final attack ends, we come back, just to see Papyrus lost to determination, and started melting..
Everything about Phases 3 & 3.5 is horrifying, with the demented smile he had to the somewhat realistic look of melting Papyrus as well as the demonic sketches, it all gave chills and reminded me a lot of Omori and Mandela Catalogue. Speaking of Omori, the music really reminded me of Black Space which made me a combination of sad and scared. The devs of this fangame did a fantastic job.

Honestly, this gives analog horror vibes.
And I'm quite happy with that, it's a nice way of having a darker tone without needing to worry about the risk of delving into edgy territory.

*something about this fangame is so damn terrifying. the fact that papyrus has no exact form in the third phase, that he keeps changing, the music at the end of phase 3 becoming a distorted mess, all of it is so unnerving. I love it.*
Admittedly, it's always rough seeing Pap change into a killer amalgamate because he's one of my greatest inspirations of being a nice, goofy, & peaceful person, in addition to how he's the one character who canonically never tries/thinks about killing the player (so Alphys doesn't count); But I gotta admit, even in his soulless Phase 3 form, he still looks like a COOL DUDE.

Yeah, I did. I mean, that Papyrus's face at 24:20 LITERALLY looks like Giygas from EarthBound. Also, now Pap has gained super powers with 6 human souls but he completely lost his mind. Like he doesn't even know what he's doing, just like Giygas (I didn't play EarthBound but I heard that Giygas is just a terrified innocent child who lost it's mind)

Literally the best version of Dustbelief. Combining undertale and vhs is pretty good and makes atmosphere pretty uncomfortable at the same time. One of my most favorite undertale fangames!

if i had been told that this fangame was going to have this twist, i wouldn't have thought i'd like it so much as i did. i think this is a very ambicious fangame and i appreciate all the work and effort put into every aspect to make it more enjoyable. i am so glad you came back for the full experience
Even when killing you, Papyrus can't help but to throw in a puzzle or two. This proves he's the best boi.
... The ending was speechless literally. The 3rd phase gave me so many chills up my spine and it kinda felt like Omori. It really gets you to feel the guilt and pain of what you've done. This game portrays undertale's choice matters and has consequences to another level.

honestly, i think since papyrus always thought that you the player could change, him switching to absolutely wanting you to become obliterated actually overloaded/overwhelmed him
which might be why he couldn't properly control his determination that caused him to lose his own soul

This game feels more like one of those analogue horror games by the end, the ending is also so damn sudden, kinda wish there was more. Alas, to the devs, amazing work, watching this has been an experience I was not expecting, keep up the good work.

According to the creator,
when the red soul turns gray, papyrus absorbs your soul, the rest of the fight is the timeline being erased.
So basically Papyrus succeeds in his goal and erases the timeline
but why are you still playing as the red soul?

I really do not know what to say. The picture shows everything. You could really see the embodiment of the words: "curse, destruction and nightmare" in 3.5 phase.i really love this fangame.Unique, creative and very cool.

I’m surprised they kept the Big Shot feature on yellow soul, but that’s pretty neat. Definitely makes for a cool touch. Also, I’m glad they kept Papyrus’ original personality despite being “corrupt”.
He still feels like Papyrus, just put between a rock and a hard place.

He feels like papyrus, but one that went absolutely insane
After about 45 minutes of just sitting in shock/horror during the phase 3 and 3.5, I think I came to a conclusion of what happened to papyrus:
Shortly after papyrus used the souls, that's when the deterioration of his mind begins. He was already pretty crazy due to the fact that he had killed so many monsters, but the power of the souls pushed him over the edge. Papyrus had COMPLETELY lost not only himself, but his life. I believe that the demonic drawings we were fighting against were actually papyrus's memories, such as the spider representing muffet and so forth. The more we go through is memories, the more they deteriorate and are being faded away. I also believe that the whispering was actually conversations that he had with the other monsters. The final phase where he has wings (or maybe 6 arms idk) was actually a representation of Asriel, specifically absolute god of hyperdeath Asriel. After that section, papyrus has be completely consumed by the insanity and power of the souls, that every fiber of what he once was is simply erased, leaving the husk of a monster that once was papyrus, standing there, DEAD. That's why in the credits the sword is on the ground and he just stands there looking at you with that sickening smile.
I guess that no mortal being can possess such insanity, such power. It consumed him in the worst possible way, first taking his memories, then his own life, similar to dementia (in terms of remembering everything and then dying shortly after).
Tldr; pappy made a last ditch effort to get rid of us (the player) and paid the ultimate price, his life, along with everyone else he knew and loved, and is now reduced to nothing but an empty shell of a monster, an empty shell of a man, an empty shell of a FRIEND. Sometimes ultimate power means ultimate suffering, and that's exactly what papyrus did; suffer.

if i saw correctly in a few moments, not only papyrus's soul turned into determination but also when it were disappearing
reminded me of hate
i don't know why but it kinda fits since hes also going absolutely insane
but anyways about the "dead husk" part, when you start phase 3 (when you start the phase), you can see that he doesn't have a sword either
so pratically he went too insane and "lost" his soul sooner than anything, these first attacks may have been the last ones he could've done, then when he said "DID I DO THE RIGHT THING?" were prob his last words before losing himself
so i guess thats why it were like a simple warm-up
till the souls somehow got their time to attack while papyrus's husk remains still
and so you destroy the souls then you see something like merg said so, "melting papyrus"
im still very confused about that part but as you said you start going through his last memories which somehow turn into attacks for you to dodge
altough now some of these papyrus parts (lets say distorted papyrus) were husks of his old self and each one were prob representing one thing each
1, the puppet master husk: on my opinion, that can mean that flowey could be leading him to a path, making him murder and cause horrible things (just like as if he were giving "advices" to him, getting his mind and being able to manipulate him)
i don't know about the spider one, ill say that it doesn't count
2. "messed up scuffed papyrus": ill say that one was a memory from when he started training for the royal guard, and thinking a bit too much about it, going a bit crazy sometimes, and could've brought him to the cool dude we knew and still know about
3. "doll papyrus husk": no clue exactly but i think he started to be more cool and "playful", and also started paying more attention
4. "flowey papyrus": would be a memory of papyrus and flowey knowing each other and turning into best buddies
5. i have no clue
6. "god papyrus": maybe would be his last feeling before completely losing himself and his memories including his life too as you said so, feeling like a god just like asriel dreemur, the god of hyperdeath, throwing in everything he had before at you, just like asriel did at the end, and lets say some of the attacks were what papyrus wanted or passed through or felt in the past;
Mail: being famous and being known
Undyne attacks: sucessfully being part of the royal guard after such long time and possibly beating undyne
"Tears": sans had talked about how he has been down lately, because of failing and not getting any help from his brother, and also struggling a lot
"Forgiveness": could be part of his dream where he could've seen himself die too with the instinct of believing the player can change and be a better person, and also on the cutscene of the second phase, where he forgives you and lets you kill him, when he accepts his fate because of his actions
"Souls?"
"Who needs them?"
"I haven't needed a soul in FOREVER!"
could be flowey talking to papyrus or when he were taking over and papyrus lost his souls and soul i guess
i wish i could see all the lore from this because holy what i just talked about is HUGE

something i forgot to mention: papyrus's "husks" of his old self could be mixed revealing his past, till the fight now and stuff

To be fair, it did involve both determination and human souls, which are notorious for causing bad things to happen in undertale
and its too much for someone like papyrus to handle it
Undertale let me something, something i can feel inside my heart. A good sensation, if only i was able to revive my childhood. I had a friend who likes undertale too we were two big fan. Big fan that all day we were reproduct comics of undertale in school. But now i have no idea where he is right now.
Was excited for Merg seeing the creepy part, and I am not disappointed. I wasn’t looking for him being scared, but rather disturbed and/or confused. Thanks for playing this game, Merg.

In my opinion, it's the player who caused this, I think the reason that papyrus's soul lost its trait is because he lost his determination after 3 of the human souls were destroyed.
Therefore he started to lose hope as he had nearly lost half of his power.
Literally had to cover the screen of my phone seeing the spider😭 was not expecting this turn of events.

This is one of my favorite fangames now, the concept of someone so determined thinking they can get more power, changes into the corruption of the same person. I also just really like the creepy visuals.

This is the nightmare fuel that I wouldn't even expect of Om- wait no... This is about on par with that game... Just, less bullet hellish and more psychological hell from knowing the context and the entire journey behind the horror.
I think what phase 3 is trying imply is that papyrus lost his soul trying to defeat the player and is now essentially flowey but with papyrus's appearence

this seems to be a half joke half serious fan game (i may be wrong, i took the joke part from the menu being simullar to dustrust 2 and vhs being overused), but this is so awesome and high quality.

Hey Merg, I want to reccomend you to check out a deltarune mod that came out recently called deltarune godhome. It's a mod that implements hollow knight mechanics to deltarune battle system, and you can fight all the hollow knight bosses in this mod. It's kinda underrated, but it's really good, and you can fight absolute radiance in this mod so it's fun... Right?
