A few months ago, Mojang created 16 Minecraft tutorials on minecraft.net, teaching things from punching a tree, to surviving your first night. From Redstone to Command Blocks. But are these tutorials actually any good?

I can guarantee the reason that observers and comparators where not talked about are because the production team behind these videos don't know how they work

@@gunpowder7777 I always played java, but because my friends all have bedrock, i wanted to try it too and i have to say that redstone is working like in java. But the miss of bud switch and the commands in gerneral are complete garbage!
@@RadFlunder i played bedrock for a few hours. I knew the redstone is wacky, so I decided to just make something that wouldn't rely on pistons or timings. What I noticed was that it was incredibly slow on a multiplayer server with only a couple dozen people.
Yeah, you're totally right about the first part, but you're definitely wrong about the server thing. There are sometimes 30,000 players on the hive with no problems at all.
Did they at least say that Bedrock and Java redstone are very different, because if not, some new players are definitely going to make the mistake of building a java build on bedrock
They "did"... in the sense that they completely ignored the existence of Java and solely addressed what Bedrock is like.

The thing is, looking at their streams and the Minecraft Live, the developers themselves _do_ know how to play, but for whatever reason the people that make those kinds of promotional content don't even know how to waterclutch :/

Mojang isn't a person, this stuff is probably just made by some random guys that work there.
In 7:36, he talks about the "Ice Spikes" biome, but instead, shows the "Frozen Ocean" biome. I will keep an eye on you.

I remember when the character creator was added to bedrock and I was checking it out and was so confused when Alex blinked. I waited to watch again and make sure I wasn't seeing things. Now I mostly play java but whenever I'm on bedrock and I see a character blink I'm just like "Oh yeah forgot they did that now"

Ok, but as a sequel you need to get two people who have never played minecraft, have one watch some of these videos, have the other taught from another source, and then compare how well they do.

As a Bedrock player, I'm honestly tired of Mojang constantly pushing Bedrock

Mojang can’t squeeze money out of Java edition, so they push Bedrock as hard as they can
Heres a take.
I like the bedrock client but hate the bedrock server.
I would gladly play on a Minecraft version thats the bedrock client with a java server. It fixes readstone and only has a small amount of hacks in the translation layer
The enchanting table part was brutal
I feel it misses an important point where you build up 100 blocks with dirt and jump off to die to make a makeshift beacon (this was real and official, and I actually used it when starting out)

I think that these tutorials are a good idea for them to continue and improve on, maybe extending to more aspects of the game and being more searchable like you mentioned
Making tutorials isn't a bad thing, but Mojang just can't do it better than some CZcamsrs, Mojang should add a tutorial world like 4J studios did with console editions

In the interior video, they placed the spruce trapdoors in different rotations. A few trapdoors are rotated one way, and then they place another one a different rotation.

i love how this video feels like somebody reviewing some popular tv series theyre really dedicated to, but its just a bunch of mid tutorial videos almost nobody knows about that was probably made by people who only played minecraft for a total of 50 hours and half was to record the videos
These videos aren't made by mojang btw. Most companies hire out smaller external firms to make videos, to which THEY then hand out to a bunch of freelancers. It's the same type of industry that manages social media accounts. People at Wendy's don't manage Wendy's twitter, it's just a random guy a marketing firm give money for X amount of posts. Videos are most likely made by a uni student who gets paid minimal wage whom has never played minecraft and doesn't know how the observer works - only for the next bunch of similar videos uploaded to THEN tell the next guy the same thing. It's just a chain is disconnected information being spread out from person to person, hence the video only being about pistons. Because that's what was uploaded 10 years ago.

i assume the reason they only played on java edition, is for the /camera command. you can't do anything like that on java without mods, i guess spectator mode is close but it's probably not good enough for their needs.

Really like the idea of tutorial worlds. Crazy they aren't a thing; just like one or two premade worlds in base monecraft.

If Mojang were smart, they would make a collaborational effort (or a sponsor thing) with their most well known content creators to provide tutorial videos about the aspects they're the best at. I could see people like Grian making a video about building and color-gradients, Mumbo Jumbo making an introductionary video about Redstone, etc.
You'd get quality videos that are fun to watch, made by the people for the people.

I disagree that it's a good thing telling new players how they can use blocks in different ways. That's imo the whole point of Minecraft, figuring this sh*t out on your own. If you're going to just tell people you take away this creativity.

This is probably some corporate mandate that the mojang dev didn't have any say in how it was edited
I haven't read through any of the rest of the comments yet - but one thing I did dislike about the videos about Biome Discovery (near 7:00), is that not once did it tell you how to FIND said biomes. Yes, it mentioned the biomes, but not how, when or where to find them. I would have appreciated that if I was a new player. I take it for granted now that you walk/fly/run/rail/boat/portal, but a new player is unlikely to know all of these different ways to get to biomes. Sometimes too little information is nearly as bad as too much. Other than that, I didn't have any real criticism of the videos, aside from them generally not going far enough - given the target audience, I guess there's only so far you can go.

Another recent example of tutorials is the help menu in bedrock, and I'm convinced (almost because Minecraft so big) no one has ever used it except for when accidentally clicking the button

9:03 something ive noticed is how Awful the survival bases are in these videos, i would probably not have a tiny wooden square house with a single bed on my first night because id rather have enough room for base expansion from the start with a large room (and also i swear sheep just dont like me i can never get wool) and i cant believe how cramped this enchanting video base is like. youre telling me this video is supposed to make me think this person has at all got to diamond level gear, but their base is THAT tiny and bad
