    Best looking S160 in the world

    • @railfanningwithtydan
      @railfanningwithtydan  Před rokem +3

      Indeed, especially for being the only operating S160 in the US in Southern livery

    My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚊🛤🚞🚝🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃🚋especially steam locomotives 🚂 like 1702 there and he hopes that real soon the entire line to Murphy is restored and the Louisville & Nashville line between Murphy and north Georgia is rebuilt. He thinks if both lines were restored it would give the passengers a change of scenery. But he does not want that to be wishful thinking he wants it to be a reality!

    • @railfanningwithtydan
      @railfanningwithtydan  Před rokem +1

      Yes believe me I would love that too! Although highly unlikely the railroad has made some pretty interesting commitments such as rebuilding an engine similar to 1702, Southern railway 722. So ya never know what the future holds 😄

    722 will be back!

    • @railfanningwithtydan
      @railfanningwithtydan  Před rokem +4

      Yes and I'm very excited but of course no restoration is quick so we gotta give it about 3 or so years before she's operable

    Well the whistle doesnt sound as nice as the one from her Reader days and early years on the GSMR but its a huge improvement over the steamboat 3 chime. 😊 I see mention of 722 being overhauled hopefully they leave her COAL fired! Handbombing separates the men from the boys too and proves a real fireman!

    • @railfanningwithtydan
      @railfanningwithtydan  Před rokem +1

      Yeah they made a decent improvement… Unfortunately they will convert 722 to oil because supplying 2 different types of fuel for their engines isn’t worth it to them but at least their finally getting her fixed. I think the planned return is in 2026

    I would like to see Great Smokey Mountains Railroad 1702 in service here at the GSMRR.

    We took this trip the next day for my birthday and was so disappointed! They played music so loud that you could not even here the sounds of the locomotive and ruined the experience. You would think they would at least visit another RR to see how it should be done!

    • @railfanningwithtydan
      @railfanningwithtydan  Před rokem +1

      Oh dear! I agree that the music they play is pretty unnecessary in the presence of the steamer that would absolutely steal the show!

      Come here to Chattanooga, tvrm lets you go into the passenger car vestibules and if a spot is open you could ride in the steam engines cab

    • @johnathanhardin152
      @johnathanhardin152 Před rokem +3

      I know this whistle is home built but it sounds similar to a NYC 6 chime.

    • @railfanningwithtydan
      @railfanningwithtydan  Před rokem +4

      I’m not quite sure but GSMR sure likes to spice thing up a little different every year now and they probably painted it to mock the 90’s

    • @railfanningwithtydan
      @railfanningwithtydan  Před rokem

      They changed it from a manual to a auto bell in 2022 to go with the southern RR scheme and double beam headlight. Not exactly sure why that decision was made tho

      @railfanningwithtydan  Před rokem +3

      It was converted in the late 1940’s to burn oil by the Warren and Saline River Railroad and they began conversion I think in 1946
