Thomas, liking the whiskers! Have you ever thought of the Kaiser look?
Mazda is one of the very few car makers that just make sense, no gimmicks no bullshits, everything intuitive and easy to use. Truly gem in modern world
Also one of the few automakers making L6 engine, which has ideal efficiency thanks to perfectly self-balacing structure. That's why it can produce more horses and consumes less fuel compared to similar competitions:
Mercedes-Benz GLC220d 4MATIC 194hp 52.4mpg
BMW X3 xDrive20d 190hp 47.9mpg
Audi Q5 40 TDI Quattro 201hp 44.8mpg
VW Tiguan 2.0TDI 150PS 148hp 54.3mpg/49.6mpg (6-speed Manual/7-speed DSG)
Peugeot 5008 1.5L BlueHDi 131hp 54.1mpg
Kia Sportage 1.6 CRDi ISG 48V 136hp 55.4mpg (FWD)
Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDi AWD 193hp 42.8mpg
Mazda CX-60 e-Skyactiv D 251hp/197hp (AWD/RWD) 53.3mpg/56.5mpg (AWD/RWD)
A lot of gimmicks in this car just looking at the video.
@@Kanazawa1997 good stuff, I just realise all the Cars listed are 4 cylinders, so, well done Mazda
The fact that Thomas was contacted by Mazda regarding his feedback is testament to his credibility and respect as a leader in automotive journalism👍 Congratulations Thomas!
👌🙏
@@autogefuehl I'll add my congratulations too Thomas. Your automotive reviews are the most in-depth available on CZcams. You are very fair, however you are not afraid to call out the manufacturers if something is not right.
And kudos to Mazda for reaching out.
Best motor journalist by far 👍
Oh, and tell them at Mazda that the diesel engine sounds epic, Thomas. And that they really should keep actual buttons and switches in ALL their cars for all often used functions. I realise that manufacturers want screens because they look slick and sexy, but the real reason is that they are cheaper to make than a cluster of nicely manufacturerd buttons with premium haptic.
This CX 60 looks like it's real competition for German and Japanese automakers. You've convinced me to strongly consider Mazda now. And, that Mazda actively listens to your detailed reviews is truly complimentary! Excellent job!!
🙌🙌
Its better than any of their japanese peers (aka Lexus, Acura,...). Better platform, better value, better engines, actual up to date technologies, better interiors,... Their market will be everyone who wants an alternative to the germans. They'll have to fight it against Volvo, Jaguar, Alfa, Genesis,... Shame they dont bring all of this in sedan form.
@@AI-qd4vb have you driven the new MDX? Both the 3.5 and the Type S? Mazda is nice but mdx is better
@@aqz2000 I would totally agree with you if they shave off all the piano black plastic on the interior. Also Acura doesn’t have something that’s the size of cx60 or bmw x5 and gle for that matter. It’s either CX9 sized or it’s a 7 seater there currently isn’t anything in between
@@AI-qd4vbi think mazda will release inline6 sedan in 2-3 years. Now they are just enjoying profits on SUV trend. They are small car company … they have to focus one at a time 😂
What I love about this car, which you didn't mention, is that without all the fancy suspension on the competitors, you have much greater reliability, longevity, and far lower maintenance costs. And that goes for the rest of the car too!
Also... I love that straight six engine sound!
It has wishbone front and independent rear
@KevGotEm That is impressive, and I am a great Mazda fan.
What I meant was it doesn't have air and electronic suspension (to me a very bad thing as very unreliable and expensive).
@@houtyfish273 plus the refinement of straight six engine (more refined than 3 or 4 cylinders) thus ideal fuel efficiency, you will be pleasantly surprised by the WLTP standard when compared with other SUV with similar sizes, similar diesel engine power.
@SauberC9-2023 Nothing nicer than a straight six! Those V days were sad.
Do you know anything about it's emission levels?
Thomas you're the first one to test drive the 6 cylinder diesel and this means you're the leading reviewer in Europe. As usual I always a fan of yours in all your automotive reviews. I'm also a Mazda fan though I can't afford to buy one but I enjoyed watching a Mazda being driven and I felt I'm already in the driving seat. I hope you'll be invited in the US to review and test drive the new CX-90.😀 😂👍
Thanks so much! Yes we ll try that!!
I have a 2 litre diesel Q5 to replace at the end of the year. This new 6 cylinder diesel CX60 is now very much on my test drive list - it looks excellent value for money. Not only that it has buttons!
Great review - as always!
thanks m8 !
I want to replace my Merc with Mazda. This car looks so damn great
Not a bad choice maybe 200PS is laughable for 3.3D but it is more economical than most 2.0D in this segment SUV, meaning less tax. Inline six can be more efficient than four cylinder.
@@Kanazawa1997 No it cant... Not even with cylinder deactivation (which would be ludicrous on a L6).
@@AI-qd4vb Well then go tell that to WLTP standard.
This is so amazing. Mazda is single handedly taking people out of their Mercedes, Audis and BMWs. With Mercedes only offering unrefined 2 litre 4 cylinder engines that don't use any less fuel than a well sorted i6, Mazda will be my next vehicle. Thank you Mazda! I'm so excited for the i6 diesel!!
Not bad choice at all. L6 will be much smoother than 3 or 4 cylinders. Sure the power tuning is underwhelming for 3.3L, but the fuel economy is very astonishing. It goes 5L/100km for RWD and 5.3L/100km for AWD variant 254PS.
Sadly, in many countries there a lot of additional taxes if you go for a 3L instead of a 2L, despite the fuel consumption. Here in Greece a brand new 3L engine is going to cost around 17k euros extra in "luxury taxes" during the first decade, while a 2L only gets 3.740 euros in taxes for the same period. It is a huge difference, almost the difference to just getting the Mercedes instead.... If i lived in USA though, i would definitely prefer the larger displacement.
@@user-bs1wx1tb7e it’s a shame. Tax based on consumption is more legit. Thanks for sharing though.
And how much performance can this engine deliver? 3.3 6Cy providing a 0-60 of about 8 seconds and AWD 7 seconds........ its a bit of a joke. Its embarrassing compared to German SUVs.
I was looking forward to seeing reviews of the 3.3 diesel and it seems not to disappoint. What a nice car, not too big, great powertrain, economical, great interior, good looking and practical. Fantastic car.
Absolutely lovely car, I love how Mazda integrates aluminium and leather details to stand out, the new digital cockpit and overall aesthetic exterior looks! Really great job!
Am buying new car within a year and am really considering a Mazda! Hope the saloon3 gets same facelift!
Its not aluminium, thats the problem, its plated plastic!
Welcome back buttons!

Really enjoy your reviews, you get into the details like door closing sounds!
Wonderful build quality, fit and finish - superb
Rear passenger space, biggest letdown
Loving the SIX cylinder engines, can't wait to see tuners getting their hands on these and seeing what they can do
👌👌
Thomas, you always give excellent detailed breakdowns. Thanks
🙌🙌🙌
Consumption of this vehicle just goes to show that PHEVs are not very logical choice vs diesel in large SUVs
No they’re probably not but for tax reasons that’s still the version I ordered. The difference in my country is massive
It’s the short cold start trips that hurt my consumption on my diesel. It makes a PHEV interesting but despite that the numbers just don’t add up in the end. Then there’s the smaller fuel tanks and extra weight that takes the edge off the handling and ride.
There’s plenty to be said for big diesels.
@@Wotan-ke5ow Yeah... Lets wait until our governments see the reality and get some common sense back in their taxation policies- currently it reminds me of the early 2010s where we were told one thing just to reverse it all few year later... :P
If u use it in the city a phev is defenitely better…
RAV4 and Ford Kuga PHEVs say otherwise.
Really enjoying the videos on the channel well done everyone involved 👍👍👍
thanks so much, please recommend :)
the one vid i was waiting for, hope it wont dissapoint
Was für ein schönes Auto mit tollem 6 Zylinder
Great quality review as always!
thanks m8 !
Thomas,
Thank you for this first rate review as a follow up to the PHEV. Here in the States Mazda introduced the three row CX90 before the two row CX70 (too bad as our small family only needs two rows) but am excited to actually touch and drive the new vehicle.
Too many reviewers are superficial which makes me appreciate your videos even more.
Thanks 🙏
We ll keep u updated!
Another great video. Montserrat. Greetings from Spain. Thanks you so much.
Gracias 🙏
Thank you Tomas and the team. First class explication and explanation. Also complete honesty. The additional space in the fuel tank is, in English, the (fuel) expansion space. I have subscribed. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.
welcome !!
Interesting philosophy, while everyone else is downsizing through turbocharging, Mazda gives you larger displacement with same efficency, meaning less stress and reliability. Great review, very thorough
highly appreciated, stay tuned !
I saw a review where with the 200hp 3.3 D could do 4.8L/100Km in normal highway conditions, for a SUV is pretty impressive
Very good non bias review as always...hope we get the CX-60 here too in Canada inline six
Cheers! You ll get the kinda similar CX-70 and CX-90 (3rd row)
Previously, I had never thought about owning a Mazda. However, with my family growing, I had my heart set on purchasing the new Lexus RX. Unfortunately, I was informed by a Lexus (Australian) dealer that the wait time for the car was up to 2 years, which I found to be an absurd amount of time to wait. As a result, I am now seriously considering the CX60. By the way, I am a big fan of your great reviews! I wanted to add that your review of the C63s coupe in 2019 was one of the main reasons I decided to purchase that car, and now you might be the reason I end up buying the CX60. Thank you for all of your help.
Danke!
Finally, a hands-on review of the 6-cylinder!
Nice gesture from Mazda about the feedback and congratulations on high quality level of your reviews that prompted Mazda to contact you.
Looking forward to the review of the petrol version as well.
I wonder how do the CX-60 3,0 i6 and the CX-5 2,5 NA compare to the late CX-7 2,3t in terms of riding/feel/power.
We ll keep u updated with more engine versions!
I have to agree with the comment about buttons. Making everything touchscreen is not necessarily better. I got a loan vehicle from the Mercedes dealer when my old C-class (with buttons!) was in for maintenance, and I do not like having climate control and radio controls on the touch screen. I did like the ambient lighting when I turned down the brightness of it.
But all in all, I think you should be able to control your vehicle without having to look at a touch screen to see if I'm pressing the right area of the screen. You can not do that in the current generation Mercedes, but it looks like you can with this Mazda. That means it is an interesting car, just for the ergonomics alone.
👍
Still depends on personal preference about infotainment system but there was a German study that Mazda had the safest infotainment system.
@@Kanazawa1997 I did like the infotainment system to be honest. It worked intuitively, but as I said, you can't control it without taking your eyes off the road. Buttons you know where they are and can control blindly after getting used to the car.
Amazing video.
Great video Thomas. This car is Def worth shortlist ING, but for me and my family needs the CX90 will be the one I'm looking closely at when 2023 draws close to the end.
thanks m8 !
What beautiful car really love red one 🔥
Gorgeous car👍
Thank you, very informative review.
One thing surprised me a lot - is that the legroom at rear seats is pretty the same as in CX-30 reviewed by you )
Thanks 🙏
I am wondering when they allow Thomas to drive new rotary PHEV MX-30... Would be nice to experience this
Really interested in that? Sure we can do that.
@@autogefuehl thanks! keen on watching!
Yes we are interested. 🙏🙏🏽
Love your in-depth reviews, thank you. Are you coming to the states to test drive the 340hp CX-90? I would love to see you review it, I trust your opinions a great deal.
Thanks 🙏 yes I thought about doing that. I would have to do that all on my own, but I ll try to arrange!
it's such a good looking car in this size. a mix of cx-5 and cx-50 styling makes perfect
Very thorough analysis thanks for reviewing the diesel version of CX-60. Looking forward into the fuel consumption test.
All in the review :)
Nice review! I really like your Jacket by the way 😂.
😎
looking great!
Definitely will check out the cx70 when it's available
Thx. for putting up the P.Q colour , was quite Obscuring on the net
Platinum Quartz & Soul Red with the sport dark trim are GORGEOUS
Thanks for sharing this review with us, Thomas. I wasn't much interested in Machine Gray until I saw this review. I'm in the U.S. but enjoy watching your reviews of the European models. As for manufacturers listening to consumers I feel like they do what they want unless they hear enough complaints. Surely, the brands going to full touch screen must know most of us prefer physical knobs and buttons yet they do away with them anyway. I suppose it's purely for profit margins. At least Mazda seems to be listening more so than others. Cheers!
👍
Buttons! Love it.
It looks nice and it has buttons. A win for me 😁
I hope they price it right so that it will eat into the sales of Telluride and Palisade. The markup on those is insane and competition is always good. If they price the volume selling package around 47k USD, it'll be top of my test drive list for this segment.
Excellent review! Absolutely love the RWD proportions as I'm allergic to front wheel drive and torque steer.😂 Thanks for showing that awesome wide rear view camera. I hope the North American version doesn't deviate from this too much.
It has a 0-60 of about 8 seconds........ I'm not sure you need to worry about torque steer or traction lol....... how they managed to extract such little performance from a 3.3 6Cy is baffling
@NL3044 I'm thinking the transmission is the weak link given the power to weight ratio.
So excited for the diesel inline six!
Thank you.
Great review! Do you recommended this car for someone who is looking for diesel, good fuel economy and confort?
Thomas, you really do the most thorough reviews - you answer all of those questions I would have liked to know.
I agree with you on the wonderful, actual buttons for the climate systems and on the wheel. That is a deal breaker for me, I will not buy a car with a touch screen for climate controls.
I have a friend that just purchased a Mazda CX-50 (in the US), the interior is very nice - not Audi nice, but heading in that direction. I have recently sat in the CX-90 and it seems even nicer. The CX-50 seems to be very agile when you push it hard in the corners and yet comfortable on three hour highway trips. I am a big fan of the center control knob, I loath having to take my eyes off the road and play around with a touch screen while the car is in motion - I always end up hitting the wrong button.
All in all, Well done Mazda, and well done Thomas and your team (as always).
I'd guess that the diesel engine is the same with the RWD and AWD versions with the difference being in the ECU tuning. Engine displacement of 3.3 liters should be capable of giving more power than 250 hp. Interesting to see how much the aftermarket tuners can get out of it.
I very much respect Mazda in this category because they’ve payed their dues and deserve to take their brand wherever they want. It reminds me of Volvo..
As a Mazda-fan i'm not so thrilled about the exterior but the interior is great as always. Lots of cars that sell a lot better have awful #BS capacitive buttons and a lacky screen with everything in it. So weird how buyers don't seem to appreciate Mazda's more since people always complain about those things.
I love the exterior, but I didn't like it initially, hopefully it will grow on you too. Buyers don't appreciate it because they don't even think about Mazda when shopping for a new car. They just go back to the same dealer for another Toyota/Honda/Hyundai etc.
I wish the rest of the world would catch up to Australia
Mazda is mainstream here. If you want a new car, you think Toyota or Mazda before anything else.
Can confirm. I live in NZ and lately Mazda has been really popular. I own the CX-9. Most of the time it's been a really great car to drive & enjoy. Much better than our Highlander
Good to hear that petrol engine better to drive vs PHEV. Looking forward to CX-90 in the US. Hoping it will compare well with SUVs like Pilot, Highlander, Palisade and Telluride. In line 6 should theoretically be reliable and easy to work on/maintain. The appearance of car not growing on me. Also concerned the seats may not be comfortable on long trips. Thanks for your review.
Thanks we ll keep u updated!
I can’t wait for this to come here to the states as a CX 70 because hopefully when I give up my CX 5 lease, I’ll get one of these
If you are in America it is a no brainer to be driving Buick, Cadillac or Ford.
this is more exciting than a lot of sports cars
Great review as always Thomas! You deserve far more views! I always have a soft spot for Mazda. But i hope they use their new platform and inline 6 for a new coupe and a new sedan... Come on Mazda, bring the goods! Not everyone wants a huge SUV! As for this particular CX-60, if i was getting this car and wanted economy i would pick the PHEV version (it also has far less taxes here in Greece). I don't think the diesel is worth it unless someone does very frequent long drives. For city dwellers who want to travel occasionally the PHEV is still king. If i went inline 6 with the CX-60 i would wait for the Skyactive-X petrol version.
Kudos 🙏

it's a great thing they didn't put too much hp in that engine, with 'only' 200hp it should be really durable engine.
Great review! Inline 6, RWD, and a real transmission. What's not to like, well, with the exception of the fake exhaust tips. Oy!

How's the engine feel in comapre to BMW's inline six ?
I'm really concerned about the lesser agile driving dynamics of this car compared to the CX-5. Good thing you pointed this out since I already placed a reservation. Might just get the CX-5 turbo instead. Thanks for the great info!
highly appreciated! Please recommend our channel :-)
it is mostly on the plug in hybrid version where it falls short.
Did you go with cx5?
Great looking car! Will this version make it to the US?? Inline 6 diesel engine also?
A comprehensive review as always Thomas. Greetings from Jamaica. I am considering a Cx-9 or a C-60, as they are similarly priced in Jamaica. Which model would you say drives better? The reviews of the Cx-9 appear to be better from the perspective of power, ride and handling.
Thanks 🙏
Didnt drive a Cx9 yet sorry!
Based on this review, I get the feeling that the CX-60 has Version 1.0 issues, and a few more years of refinement (especially in the suspension and drivetrain). After they finally make these modifications in Version 2.0, Mazda May finally get very close to a Mercedes, Audi and BMW level driving experience.
Better❤
Great review! Does anybody know what brand of injectors are used on the 6 cylinder diesel?
another one traditional mazda car that reminds you all the things you really need from a nice car. Friendly and beautifull design cars with clear borders between driving character and funzy. I like it very much!
Imho it really depends, if, for work like all day you drive, it’s a great choice. However, if its a lot of short trips for groceries etc as well, the phev is not too bad of a choice
I have tested the cx60 recently. I have put deposit on Lexus NX350h and waiting for delivery in August. I am seriously thinking about cancelling the order and get the Mazda instead.
Okay , i m going to buy this car damn! Prettyy!
Thomas, did you find the transmission had improved compared to the laggy, hesitation you experienced in the PHEV?
In difference to PHEV yes, but also see my remarks to transmission (check video)
Can't wait for Mazda 6 with this drivetrain
Had our cx60 PHEV for 2 weeks now. Love the interior and the steering, ride is a bit harsh. I am really happy with it , especially for the price.
Have you noticed any hesitation in the drivetrain the way that Thomas did in the pre-production model? He talked about the switch from EV to ICE was a bit rough and lagging, not smooth. I have hoped the engineers improved it by the time of production.
There is a programme to replace the suspension with a revised one at Mazda right now, at no extra charge. Maybe you can explore this option.
@@kurtpenner2362 the switch between ev and ice is pretty slick. You do notice but it is minimal. But I have no experience with other PHEV types. Running in town with minimal battery it switches back and forth quite a lot.
Interesting video! Good information about handling improvement over the PHEV. I'm wondering though if the 3.0 in line six Skyactiv-X is still in the plans of Mazda for EU: some recent Mazda US press releases deny it, even for EU, in favour of a 3.3 turbo with only 280 HP, a supposed detuned version of the top american 340 HP for their CX90. If this "detuned" (as americans call it) version of the petrol in-line 6 is "Skyactiv-X" or not; or if it has a proper turbo or only the small compressor needed for the self-ignition work, there's still a lot of confusion, and Mazda Europe has not explained anything yet about this as far as I know. I'm pleased to see that the test is done in my country, in the monumental roads between Can Massana-"Ca la iaia" and Montserrat, and the motorway between Molins de Rei and Martorell. Well done!
Thanks 🙏
Beautiful area!
Engines are planned like I said in the engine part!
Great review and for me the best option for buying a car...inline 6 never disapoints....and diesel the better 😄
👌
I think when the CX-60 gets the 340HP inline 6 petrol engine from the CX-90 it will be sportier-if not as sporty-than the CX-5. It's inevitable, given the old 2.5T jump from the US CX-9 to almost every car in Mazda's lineup.
however just bigger engine doesnt make the whole car sportier
to be honest...this mazda looks very good !
Overall I find this a great proposal.
It's a "luxury" vehicle w so not do be driven like a nutcase, so it makes sense to be configured on the confort mode of driving than the sporty side.
I would just like some more ambient lighting on the dashboard horizontal line and maybe a climate control at the back.
I really like the fact they use buttons.
The consomption figures mare PHEV a ridiculous choice, this inline 6 is just perfect.
And for 20k € difference, this makes this cx-60 a wise decision Vs German competitors with ridiculous touchscreens and heavy plugin hybrids which reduce their trunk space to the size of a city car.
Congratulations Mazda for this excellent work.
The issue with phev over diesel is that some countries in europe have a hefty tax (at registration and/or yearly) for diesel and a reduction for phevs. So in some markets the phev will make sense (plus, it's smile inducing fast too) whereas for other markets the diesel will be better. Now curious even more about the 6cyl petrol, as yet another "in-between" option.
Don't forget horrible reliability in German cars... nothing to worry about with mazda.
14:53 excitement!
Very nice, im sur mazda will tweak it for 2024 my, waiting for 3.0 petrol skyactive x review
Will deliver!
My BMW X3 was grazed by a careless driver and my insurance declared it as a loss. This will be a more reliable replacement for my X3. With a PHEV option, this is perfect. I wish Mazda adds an ambient light like the X3. I hope the CX70 will not disappoint.
07:49 There is a option in the bluetooth settings where you can enable the touch screen while the car is moving.
Oh really? But only for Carplay/Android Auto?
@@autogefuehl Yes, only for Carplay/Android Auto, here is a video that shows how:

u svojo klas jedino x3 joj je konkurencija i to ne ovaj sa ekranom, prekrasna ručica mjenjača
Also we have the turbo s in the USA that produces 340 HP
I wish the head up feature also worked with Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
Thanks for this. In the US the top models will have 340hp and 369 lb ft of torque.
I think after Kia, Mazda are upping their game. Very elegant design. Thomas is the best as well,
If having fog lights very very good
Vielen Dank 😊
