My review of the amazing Quad Cortex amp models,
All stock amps that come with the quad cortex record straight into Cubase 11, no effects added in Cubase all sounds are straight from the Cortex.
Guitar used is Gibson Les Paul Custom shop.
Signal chain is a (simple limiter) - (amp) - (cab (2x12 v30 zilla) a small mix of (plate reverb) and thatâs it.
All amp settings you can see from the video, mostly set at 12 oâclock for everything.
Canât recommend the quad cortex enough itâs a brilliant unit with endless possibilities, the App is great to try other peopleâs presents and captures.
(Search for damoguitar on the Cortex App to find some of my own presets)
Check out my review of the Cortex amp factory captures and my Video on downing from the App.
Hope you enjoyed if so please give it a like and subscribe itâs a great help for me to try and grow the channel, thanks for watching .

THANK YOU so much!!!
This is the video I was looking for thank you for the effort.
Thanks so much, Iâll do the drive pedals soon đ
@@damienbagleeguitar no engl models in there?
@@allboutthemojo check out my factory captures video, some in there đ
Great video thanks man
I have had mine a few months and have not really taken the time to go through each amp like this. I appreciate the time and the quality of work you did here. Nice playing too!
Thanks Brian appreciate the comments đđ
Thanks Brian appreciate the comments đđ
waiting for my order to come in from sweetwater. this is helpful in getting me setup ahead of time. appreciate the upload!
Thanks, You wonât be disappointed fantastic unit đ
Thanks for doing this. Oh, awesome playing too. Suggestion as I know it's a lot of work but timestamps by amp would be a nice addition to this video.
The video presentation is great.
I only watched the Marshall tones and for me I did find them convincing or pleasant.
Great video
Thanks for the comment đ€
Great video representation (and playing) of the amps in the QC. I really love mine.
I was never into amp models but itâs a brilliant unit, thanks for the comment đ
Awesome vid. If you add the value of all these amps up, the QC is unbelievably worth every penny :) just got a QC, love it
Thanks for the comment Jeff, yeah itâs fantastic unit worth every penny đ
Great vĂdeo - especially as you've left the tone knobs at 'neutral'. Useful and interesting.
You'd think Neural DSP would produce a video like this....
Thanks đ for the comments, they probably have better things to do unlike me đ

Nicely done, nothing but the sounds! Good pics/graphics as well, but the Super Reverb was either "squashed" or not a Super Reverb pic... I liked all the Marshall tones, but most of the (other) higher gain amps had the "fizz" to me, which is interesting because it seems like lots of Metal players like the modelers? The Roland Jazz Chorus was awesome, and sounded very real! The Soldano was impressive as well. The Vox's sounded good, but it would have been nice to hear them cleaner, going for the "chime". I didn't like the Fenders much; it would have been interesting to hear how they sounded with a Strat. I'm an LP player myself, so I appreciated your choice there!
I'm a tube amp guy too, not really into modelers, but really starting to think about these for lots of reasons, including the obvious - weight, ease of set up, etc etc. - and these QC's are pretty impressive, although I have not tried one in person yet. Thanks for taking the time to do this! It covered most of the amps I'd be trying to emulate/use for my playing!
Haha think I squashed the Super Rev, it was getting late đ thanks for the comments đ
Thank you so much for the excellent video! As I understand it, the QC runs 2 amplifiers in stereo without any problems, right!? I'm thinking about getting one, but until today, I couldn't understand if the QC works only with captures or if it comes with the traditional amp's and cab's simulations like other modelers. Another thing I'd like to ask you, Leo, is if the simulations of amps and pedals that come with it are good, or if it's better to get excellent sound from the QC with the captures?
Hi thanks for the comments, yes QC runs duel amps and cabs without any problems, amp models sound just as good as the captures to be honest, itâs a fantastic unit đ€
Awesome video!!
What pickup do you have in your gibson custom? I have recently got a quad cortex, but mine sounds not as bright as yours. I have a suhr classic with ssv in the bridge, which is known as a quite bright pickup.
Thanks so much, I think they are custom buckers as standard đ
One thing that i always experienced with the kemper, and i feel like also applies to the quad cortex; is the fact that a LOT of the models/captures really sound the same. I don't know if its just because the guitar/listening devices aren't changing, and as a result it all just sounds similar. I own a QC by the way and still experience the same thing tone wise across captures/models. I also have QSC monitors and audio technica headphones so i have great listening equipment. I'm not sure why most of the captures/modelers sound the same to me?
Most real amps sound the same to me as well now đ
What mic's and positions for the cab did you use? Sounds great
Thanks for the comment I didnât touch the mic or the position just left as what ever comes up standard when setting a new preset, Iâll double check tonight, all levels are just set to noon so I could of really messed about with settings to tune a great sound in on each amp, so much to tweak with the Quad đ itâs fantastic
Great video! In your signal chain you put "simple limiter" first. What is the limiter?
Thanks for the comment đ limiter is just a noise gate on low to stop the buzz I believe đž
Subscribed any how to videos on the QC would be greatly appreciated. Also what's the best way to use it with my fender bassbreaker 15? I don't own an FRFR speaker yet and been playing it through my cheap eris monitors
If you got a FX loop, run it through that using the 4 cable method for just using the built in effects. If you want to use the amp sims then just plug it into the FX Return and it will bypass your basemanâs pre amp and turn it into a power amp. Just be sure to turn the Cab section off in the QC or it will not sound good.
@@IanHarrisOfficial thanks Ian I will do the latter and leave the cab sim out of my signal chain I just want to hear it through something other than my Eris 4.5" monitors cheers đ»
Whatâs cabinet preset are you using in this video?
Hi Douglas cabinet was a 2x12 v30 Zilla, signal chain is in the description if you need any more information, thanks Damien đ
Does the QC sound better/same than the line 6 3.5? Does Neural dsp make something like the line 6 HX stomp?. THANKS.
They both sound great, both have plus points and not many downsides đ not sure about a HX stomp type of QC not heard anything as yet đ
Just ordered mine, what portable external amp do you recommend to power it?
Great choice, Iâd say either a Seymour Duncan Powestage 170 or Orange pedal baby 100 depending on budget in my opinion đ€
Is threw a clean CH on a Valve amp. Or pa .or transistor.
Hi this is just recorded directly into interface using Cubase 11 as DAW
Great video. Mustâve taken ages to do. Especially trying to get all the same level. What guitar did you use? My guess is SG :-)
Thanks Paul, guitar is a Gibson les Paul custom shop, levels are ok some are a bit off but yeah it did take a bit of making matching sound with pictures etc đ
There's a high pitch sound in the left channel throughout thus video. Just a heads up, not a criticism. Aside from that, it's nice to hear them all side bu side, thanks
Yeah I heard that as well havenât a clue what it is? đ±
Likely youtube audio compression algorithm messing up the high end
Is it me or do I still hear the same dizziness Ive heard from all digital modellers?
I thought the same before I bought a quad and a helix but to be honest if you mic a cab up and crank it you get fizz with high gain amps, as with the cab you can dial most of it out, I get a much better clear recording with the modelers, hope that helps đ
Lol, it's literally just you. It's sonically the same as the amp. That digital "dizziness" you speak of went out the window in 2015 my guy. Get with the times, they are a changing. Just because you can't afford one doesn't mean you need to slam it.
@@joshsmith7033 thanks for your kindness, Josho. It was an actual question, not a dig. If I just came here to throw shade I'd be on Twitch or something
