    Used to love going to gp's, we would prep all week and have a blast.but it used to be worth it, get a promo playmat, a promo playable card and chance to make some money and if you didn't at least you got some goodies. Now we pay 50$ to get a uncommon with a payout of 150$ for winning. Not worth

  • @Mazin257

    I think a lot of people WOULD pay ~$100 for a GP style event that could qualify you for the PT. People already do that for RCs and pay similar amounts for MagicCons. Also having badges come with vouchers for events would do a lot to encourage even casual players to come.

    You'd be printing what 500 to 600 in the year? The serialized Sol Rings from LoTR are going in the $5k-$10k range, just a year and half or so after printing. A staple like Polluted Delta could easily fetch a similar range, if not even higher.

    I paid 70$ cad to play standard last chance qualifier at F2F in Montreal this year, mostly a casual player myself but I would not have played for double the price, I even thought that 70 was steep but I have no idea

      I'm in the U.S. and I wouldn't pay more than $50 USD personally. According to current exchange rates, that $68 CAD. So I'd have paid that, but that is the absolute upper end for me.
      There are other ways to make money with big events like this that to charge the prospective competitors an arm and a leg just to play some games.

    I miss GPS. The standard GPS around kaladesh we're some of my favorite times playing magic. And making day 2 on a gp felt so good. But magic cons don't feel the same at all.
    60$ for the standard with optional drafts and free comander tables the 200 of us that wanted to sit and grind for that spotlight table or the grand prize it was sweaty and fun and worth it.

    The thing is there is a huge difference in how a C suit/advertiseguy sees events and how the audience/customerbase sees/want to use them
    As long that divide is there you get this, but there needs ways for the die hard to play and enthusiasts to join vOv
    until then ill keep pauper :D

    I would live to attend another GP. They had one at a city within driving distance of me. It was way easier to drive 4 or 5 hours than take a plane halfway across the country or world to play one of the 4 events they do now. It almost like...why even play competitively. There is no payoff. Not like it used to be.

      Same reason professional sports exist.

    • @lukagaljer5006
      @lukagaljer5006 Před měsícem +6

      Because as with all games, the presence of a professional circuit adds an intangible, but extremely valuable aspirational element for many players who wish to take the next step beyond playing in a casual setting which more people are likely to do if more people from their surroundings do so and those people will do so if sufficiently incentivised, all of which ultimately a) strengthens the playerbase, b) further legitimises the hobby (which some people may need), c) results in steady recruitment of new players, and d) ultimately drives stable sales for the company making/hosting/organising the game and adjacent products.

      @@mathewdebol923 @mathewdebol923 That'd be okay tbh. It would be a Legacy format, and i've been thinking about how a Modern + Commander Sets pack for a Commander format would look like, that way Legacy cards would not be included and the need for proxies would not be the case to some extent.
