- My first time driving a manual MK7.5 Golf R! Having owned a DSG MK7.5 a few years ago, I was already familiar with the platform, but with a manual gearbox, it's a dream to drive!!!

Manual gearboxes in Golf R's are SOOO underrated - This looks like a proper good drive
This... People are so focused on the DSGs, which are fantastic too, but pure driving experience and enjoyment the DSG doesn't come close!
Agreed! I went with manual on mine and it's a ton of fun
@@europamotorsau I was recently shopping for one (mk7.5). I live in Germany, and across the country there were only 5 manual cars available in the market vs 70+ with dsg. Needless to say that manual was a bit more expensive other things being equal (I believe because of scarcity). And the only filters I've applied was actually year/5-doors-hatchback. No brainier that so many people talk about and praise dsg, with such density distribution :-) they simply don't drive manuals, probably didn't even try (fro any kind of reasonable time)
Wow, I didn't realize it was two years since you owned your Golf R! It's rare to see a manual review and this one looks and sounds fantastic. Congrat's to the new owner. I'm a huge manual guy. Blakedown has some really nice rides!
The funny thing is my parents are the new owners of this car 😂
That’s me then 😊👍🏼
Car looks great mate
Nice car
I hope they have saved some extra cash for when the clutch fails
@@leweee the clutch has already been done so should be fine,bu the standard one is weak and I found that out
I got rid of a turmeric yellow 3 door manual last year, absolutely regret it, what a car and a head Turner.
I understand you Luke, I still own mine, same spec and colour that yours, and honestly don't even think to sell it.
It's a good example of how a versatile, fun and safe car should be.
Mine was Stage 2 Manual aswell back wiper delete res delete scorpion straight pipe always puts a smile on your face, every drive I enjoy 😄
I always find u coming back to the Golf R - u f****** love it man. Hhahaa
Buy another Golf R my man! In all honesty, your videos of your LB MK7.5 is what got me into your channel, great content. Being the owner of a 2019 MK7.5 LB R (DSG) myself, I love the cars!
I watched a pile of your video's and now have a 3 door golf R sat in the drive way - you need to return to the fold !!
That's wild, a subtle looking R as well 👌
This car is the closest you can get to automotive perfection, the price, the performance and the feeling you get behind the wheel is simply sublime!
Great video Luke, I guess it’s nice to get the power down in the wet not like us in M140s 😂 Still love it tho
Haha never see wombourne on CZcams😂 great video love the golf R
I drive a manual R but wow, this looks sweeeet!
I deffo see another golf R coming soon lol
The quality of your content has really improved over the past year. Good show mate. Keep going
Excellent review! As a stage 1 manual owner I firmly believe that the manual is underrated as a driving machine. The DSG box is a fantastic piece of engineering but is it better for a hot hatch? Most will say yes but how much of that opinion is swayed by easier launches and a slightly quicker 0-60 time?
Anyone know what type of cluth this car has equipped? Did it retain rhe DMFW or swap for a single mass?
Just came across your channel
Good review 👍
Stunning car in that colour
Manual hits different
Luke, you def need another one
i Love the MK7.5 Golf R,it just feels rights, especially the interior and the sound is glorious!
Great video Luke,as always! :D
Has the clutch been uprated to handle the stage 2 ?
I have a mi7 Golf gti clubsport with the same engine manual, but i dont like that gearbox at all. Between 3000-3500 i have clutch slip and its not even chipped
Why did you go with manual over DSG when deciding? I’m in the air about it right now, transitioning from a manual 7.5 GTI
Love my Stage 2 manual Golf R 😍
Dsg sound is a MUST on vw’s i literally no matter how much I love manuals will never understand people that go for manual specially on golf R’s
Manual trans cars provide more of a mechanical connection between the car and the driver. More satisfying and most importantly more involved.
@@bm717252 I do agree of course. But the dsg gives the car a completely different personality, that’s my opinion obviously
@@arnesto2571 i agree with you dsg for me but I'm more of a paddle-shift guy
For me I’d have any car in a manual. I appreciate autos, but fully dedicated to the driving experience.
Especially with the manual clutches being made out of chocolate
What wheels are these? Did they come factory in the US on anything?
The only thing is you need to be prepared to fork out a pretty penny to upgrade the clutch once it’s goes as it’s the same clutch in the GTI but so underrated man
Yep need to get it asap with a stage 1 even. It's very shit
How much you think ?
Manual all the way!
What's happened to the MGF?
I need to get my R to stage 2
Its just weird you are back in a golf r 😳
The crankshaft walk issues on the manual Mk7/7.5 GTI/Golf R's are what scare me, I think I'd still rather have a DSG R, I'll keep my manual Mk6 GTI if I want to row gears
I heard the crankwalk issue was fixed on the MK7.5R’s (2018 and up)
Just subscribed. Loving the content 👌 you should try and do a review on an Audi S3 8P (I know dated) but not really seen an updated 1 yet ✌🏾
Late to the party, just test drove a dsg golf r and went for the manual, I just dont want to spend 5k to 10k on a new gearbox for a dsg, that's my reasoning as I've changed 3 dsg gearboxes in my time.
Beauty of a car ! Gave mine a well needed bath today...50 F in Chicago today. Heat wave !
Manual, three door with Pretoria’s has to be the ultimate spec imo.
Like the wheels only down side is you can see the rusty hubs
Stage two it will be running about 390+ BHP with over 420 torque In a manual golf with fwd Makes for the ultimate driving machine and back road Blaster If you are man Enough to drive with three pedals ha ha ha
Fwd means front wheel drive 👍
This thing is perfection!!! only thing missing is a sunroof ;)
Adds to much weight
@@seifyboy2832 ah its worth it imo
@@Christian6AT for me only car I’ll get it on is a RS3 😍
@@seifyboy2832 guess that’s a personal preference, I prefer the golf r every day
I prefer cars without sunroofs, so 80s.
The Colour bang on i am old school i like manual.
This is so weird I was watching and as you pulled away from the Sainsbury’s I thought omg that’s my local Sainsbury’s! 😂 I had no idea Blakedown was down there!
I always wanted one but atomatic is evryday car
Grey and black rims gorgeous combination
Golf R are everywhere now but there’s no denying that it’s a dirtyy car👀🔥
For good reason I love mine lapis blue dsg.
I’ve got a mk7 golf r manual and this is really making me want to stage 2 it. I have bought a res Remus exhaust and the non res didn’t seem that loud in this vid, I’m maybe regretting my decision now ahah
Fantastic colour can't beat an R they look timeless, defo m140 or golf R my next car!
Always check what they have in stock. And always nice cars.
How bout trying a DSG GTI Clubsport like mine or manual if you can find. Pushing 360 hp at my Stage 1 by BSR Performance. Im looking into getting the DSG a TCU tune by Racingline! Might get a Stage 2 ECU laters! 👍
Go for TVS tcu tune, better than racingline
You featured my stage three manual 7.5 on your channel not long ago
Can you even see over that dash. Your seats toooooo low 😂
You drive like my gran. And she is dead
😂😂😂 I nearly died reading this!
Oh little John John , your poor old gran having such a jealous vertically challenged poorly endowed portly fast food delivery boy such as yourself...what numpty
I mean he clearly said he hasn't driven manual before.
@@alanwayte432 oh Alan good try at being funny
It's wet and it's not his car 😂😂
Witch one do u think is better the golf r or the i30n with the same power
Go on Luke! Get another one!!
What a freaking car 🐐
The joy of driving manual golf r seems a lot more fun then dsg
Do you think you’ll get another Golf R and if so would you get the new Mk8 or would you go for the Mk7.5 in manual?
I have 7.5 in my trousers an keys to m135i too 🤷🏻♂️💪🏻😂
🤣🤣🤣
In the words of Nike “Just do it”. I owned a mk7 Golf R manual in Reflex Silver and it was awesome. I now have the 7.5 DSG estate so I have the space for the family. Love it but the manual was more fun to play with.
Love the car, but more importantly LOVE the jacket
What about the tuned white one you had on?
I remember Luke saying he didnt regret selling the R.. Is somone capping?;)
Why did he sell it
@@Adam-lq7fx pretty sure he said he really fancied a 3L and with the 140i’s a dying breed he wanted something with more power, both class cars tho
I think you forgot to mention you had one and sold it
A Golf R back on the channel would be amazing 🤩
Nice car 👍
you miss the R
what exhaust was on it
A golf r doesn’t make for a good track car... I know, having a 3 door manual they are competent fast road cars but don’t have the good base for a track car. The 4wd doesn’t necessarily mean improved performance, simply better traction.
If its sold you shouldn't be driving it id be fuming if some youtube idiot is flying round in my car I've just bought for views on his channel shame on the dealer
When he said that I was thinking in the back of my mind what if he crashed it 😂
The owner said he can drive it
Car is beautifully customized.
Can you do a GOLF GTE review! Dying to see what your thoughts on it are.
The gte is more akin to a gtd though 🤔. As in better range and cheaper to run
@@richboy900 exactly, more powerful than a gtd aswell. Better car for city drivers etc
@@kevinbrogan3607 i have a gtd and really enjoy it, but the gte is a car I'd seriously consider for the future.
@@richboy900 I bought a gte last week and I absolutely love it. I’ve driven the gtd aswell, not a bad car but just something about electric power
@@kevinbrogan3607 yea, I'll definitely give it a shot. Enjoy it. I've seen them on the road and they look awesome
I have a 7.5 manual. No problem with the clutch. But you should always heel and toe. That saves the clutch no matter how hard you drive, and I drive it hard.
How many miles on it mine went at 18k
@@jamstersmith4625 Honestly, only 15k so hopefully it's going to be fine. There's a guy here on CZcams who races it all the time and his went at 48k so ymmv.
@@minibeee i only had the car a few months and started to slip ,the previous owner must have beat it so I replaced flywheel and a helix clutch and it feels amazing for everyday
@@jamstersmith4625 I'll remember that when mine goes. I love the Manual R even though you catch shit from DSG drivers about it. Beat an S3 with mine back to back the other night and those are only DSG. After losing twice he didn't want a 3rd go round.
@@minibeee that's good going mate bet you were laughing. Try a racing a s4 2014 I did and he did me lol not by much but im sure there a 3L turbo / supercharger come 120 he was a car ahead . You know I had to watch my dash cam after ha ha
If you fancy trying a stage 3 manual golf R let me know, it’s a proper laugh
I've considered a 7.5 golf R in the past but was massively put off when I realised they're proper theif magnets! Not worth having your house broken into to have a golf on the drive..
???thief
Im a manual owner🙋🏼♂️😁
Just picked mine up on Thursday 😁
I'm liking to purchase one of these any advice issues also illp def be getting warranty
No way I brought my Golf R from them whats the chance of finding this video
Bought not brought
and what do ya know hes gone n bought one lol mk7
The bad sound from the exhaust is putting me off these. This sounds bloody awful although it's fairly quick
Awesome cars but just overpiced in europe. Same money gets you a 335,435,140 etc etc
You heavyyyyy regret selling ur golf like. Spit the word golf out more than you’ve had hot meals
It has to be more than 380 hp if its stage 2... thats more like 400-420. This is for sure somewhere in there probably closer to 420 than 400
It has a sports cat, not a decat - hence the 380hp
@@hampshirephoto racingline guarantee 395 /550 NM on OPF models with only the HJS downpipe add in the R600+ turbo elbow + muffler delete it has to be more. I probably said it before i have a stage 1 + r600+ elbow + muffler del 365 on dyno on a hot day (30 celsius) . Cant believe that a sports downpipe only brings 15 hp on top of that
Reviews of Stage 2 manual Golf R's are few and far between. As an owner of one of these rare gems, I really appreciate reviews such as this one. My '16 has been tuned (including upgraded clutch) over 3 years and I've owned it over 5 years. I agree with the part about it feeling much faster than 380 HP (387 for APR Stage 2 with supporting mods). Raidi's Rides reviewed it in 2017 czcams.com/video/ExH0vG8e8PM/video.html
7:40 : This is why you don't buy DSG. Makes driving the R so much more engaging .
You say "feels quicker than 380". Stage 2 should be more than 380 lol
The sensation of greater power comes from the 409 foot pounds of torque (for APR Stage 2 high torque)
Nevermind manuals dying, combustion engines in general will be ending manufacture in 2030.
Good no one cares get yourself a Tesla
Oh mate but u sold your r man and i didnt subscribe yet :DDDDDDDD
No match to the 140 though 💪
This would leave the m140i in the dust
@@jamesolsen2137 off the line haha 140 too busy spinning it’s wheels

Another souless german car lmao
Souless? Nah, it's actually pretty fun.
You'd think that, but even though it's super competent and reliable, there it has hella emotions. Beautiful car.
@@Saif0412 erp derp stomp on accelerator is boring.
@@maxnaidoo2152 the only emotion those types of cars bring me is annoyance when some nonce drives one with a pop and bang map because his mums upgraded him from his eco boost fiesta that also had a pop n bang map
@@maxnaidoo2152 pretty much any young 20yr old that lives at home with a half decent wage can afford to finance the car
Why are there no more manual golf Rs LOL because the mqb cars are known for shit manual transmissions which will go at even stock power levels thats why :)
Kinda yes but I love manual
The most ugliest sound ever! Good old V6, where are you?
Good buy a lambo then
