    Glad you showed the blue/chartreuse thing again. It bothers me a bit how much the dark enhancement changes thing even at such a low setting, but I guess considering it has just over 4000 colors available, the Mini C is doing really well. Thanks for this third look! I am living vicariously through you 😆I've been wanting the Mini C but am waiting for more reviews, and so far you're the only one who has really looked into it. 👍

    Thanks for all 3 videos.
    Loved the 1st video, no complaints here. It was exactly what i wanted to see. Ordered the Mini after watching your first one.
    The continuation of comparison with vids 2 and 3 was informative and amazing. The settings changes on both devices was very helpful.
    After watching all 3, I'm very glad i ordered the Mini. I'll definitely be happier using it than I have been with the Air C.

      I think both devices stand up really well, but the more I use the Mini the more I appreciate it. But it really does depend on the use case. If someone had the Air and just read novels, there just isn't a tangible difference to warrant an upgrade. But in other use cases the differences are more apparent. Thank you for the nice compliments!

      @jeffreymoss Of course, you're right on device usage. I loved how the Mini handled magazines. Seems like a much smoother experience overall.
      On your video though, what really had me excited was using the Mini with your local library. I went full-on library geek. Have already filled forms
      To get my card renewed. Never thought about that, so thank you. Probably 12 yrs or more since I've visited my library and we definitely need to support them.

      Yeah, that was wild. You probably can't tell, but I normally work with the devices first before filming so I know what to focus on and try not to be too meandering. Despite that, I didn't notice this issue until filming and was really caught off guard by it. I'm glad I was able to figure it out and not give out the wrong information in the end!

    Thanks for the video! Can you also comfortably zoom in pdf files like in magazines? And does the backlight create an eye strain if you use for long time? I want it mostly for reading pdf's but the screen being dark without backlight makes me sticking with b/w screen

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yeah, it handles pinch and zoom fairly well. Technically, it has front lighting, where the light comes in from the sides, bounces off the screen, and then to your eyes. But to answer your question, I never found the lighting to cause me strain.

    Thank you very much for this series, helps a lot to decide! I am rather using my current Nova Air 1 for note taking, novel and manga reading so scrolling and refresh rate is no concern. I am actually thinking about getting the Air C as it is more lightweight. Regarding the mini, I am also a bit worried about the screen surface as it seems to be more tablet like. Did you notice a big difference when writing on both? And which writing feel did you prefer? Thanks again!!

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Between the Nova Air C and the Tab Ultra Mini? I didn't notice any difference in writing. Both have a subtle, scratchy sound which I kind of like. It was also the same experience I had with the Note Air, so most of their devices are pretty consistent in that regard.

  • @WayneMan88
    @WayneMan88 Před rokem +4

    I think we should see it in balanced mode on the mini. The ultrafast is not designed for constant use and will burn down the battery life way too quickly as it runs both the CPU and GPU at full speed constantly.

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před rokem +4

      That's an interesting comment. Visually, I tend to think that HD/Regal are about the same, and also feel that way about Balanced/Fast/Ultrafast. I won't go as far as to say that I think they are identical, but you really have to look for differences. However, I haven't studied the relationship between each mode and the battery drain. At some point I will do a simple usage battery drain test, but I wasn't planning to do a range of tests because of all the effort involved. Hopefully someone will do that and post the results on Reddit. If I come across that, I'll reference that in a future video.

    Thanks for your work. I have just bought this device today and wait for it ,
    if I just read book and take a little note will the battery last several days ? Or is it a problem on this device ? Is it fast to recharge? Is there night mode ? Thanks for your answer

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před rokem +3

      It will depend on how you use the device. As an eReader, mainly paging through text, the battery life seems pretty good. If you scroll a lot and there are videos involved, or if you are using front lighting a lot, that will bring the battery life down. So it depends. It's not uncommon for me to read for 45 minutes and just drain 1% of the battery, which I think is pretty good. In terms of charging, I'm not sure how long it takes. I like to just plug it into my computers USB port and then I leave it to charge over night. It won't overcharge, so I don't worry about that, and while USB charging is slower overall, it may help extend the battery life over time (although that's just a suspicion on my part, it could be complete rubbish but that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). I'm not aware of a night mode for the system UI and I did look recently for it. But in general you want to work with white/light backgrounds more often than not because ghosting is harder to discern that way. It really stands out when the background is black.

      I don't recall that with either the air or this device. So either those weren't there for me, or they were there but it wasn't something I noticed. Seems like that would be something I'd pick up on though.

      Interesting, from close ups I don't see them in most devices. Perhaps I had a faulty device and didn't even know it! Jeffrey, thank you very much for your videos! They are excellent and help a lot in making a decision.

    • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The Mini C came out at the end of June last year, and I notice they have been putting the Mini C on sale lately, so I'm thinking a follow-up model is coming. It's also been quiet from Boox lately, so they are due to announce a new product. Based on that, I'd hold off a few months and see what happens. If a new product does come out, that will leave two options, buy the latest thing or purchase the Mini C at a more favorable price. Of course, I don't have any inside information on all of this, just an outsider reading the tea leaves.

      I can't comment on manga, but I've read some comics on this and it's totally fine if I go cell by cell. • @jeffreymoss
      @jeffreymoss  Před rokem

      Yeah, I'm curious about that. Will there be a Kaleido 4 or have we pushed the limits of what this tech can do? I have no idea, of course, but I just reflect about that because of what Eink is trying to do with Gallery 3. That tech provides a higher pixel density than Kaleido and has a lighter background color which is nice, but as a whole it's clearly inferior to Kaleido. So why put it out there? It might be because they think Kaleido is perfected (relatively speaking) and they need to look in another direction to push the quality forward. Just speculation on my part.

  • @CaryInVictoria
    @CaryInVictoria Před měsícem

    If a reader watches your entire video it's clear which device is which when two are compared side-by-side, but if one is distracted (to do the dishes, say) and gets audio only, it becomes near impossible to follow your dialogue, as so much relies on visual cues, such as "here there is less ghosting but over here the text is crisper". Similarly, when you are comparing multiple devices and the viewer skips ahead, some time may go by before it becomes clear which devices are then on stage. I therefore suggest you replace the "here's" and "there's" with the device name 10:14 ("the Mini C exhibits is less ghosting but the text is crisper on the Air 3").

  • @eddiegardner8232
    @eddiegardner8232 Před rokem +2

    The bottom line here is that if you have the earlier device, it is not worth replacing it with the newer version. If you are buying fresh into this size device, you would buy the newer model.
    As to the occasional color differences in comics, probably the only way to tell which one is "right" would be to pull up the same images on an iPad and compare to that. Apple is very picky about color accuracy, and there are no "enhancement" sliders; the color is just right.

  • @RenePasset
